Louisiana Jindal Recall Petitioner Disappointed In Governor

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

It did not come as a surprise to many that a Bobby Jindal would join the “recall petition” victim list as Ryan Fornier of Jefferson Louisiana has launched a recall of Governor Jindal that was filed by the Secretary of State’s Office on Friday.

Fournier mailed the petition into the Secretary of State’s Office and according to that office, a one-hundred-eighty-day countdown will begin from the date of the post-mark of the mailing.  That office said that the mailing was post-marked on Thursday.

Fournier joins a small list of legislators who have petitions filed against them.  That list includes House Speaker Jim Tucker.

Fournier told Bayoubuzz that he supported Bobby Jindal in the election for Governor but “feels that the Governor is going against all of the things that he said he stands for”.  Fournier said he felt a responsibility to take action and said he did not understand if the Governor is “against the raise, why won’t he veto it”.  The petitioner is thirty-two years old with two kids, follows politics but is not active, is a registered Republican and works in the telecommunications field.

Governor Jindal released a statement regarding the recall that said, “The voters of our state are angry that the Legislature more than doubled their own pay and I agree with them. It was excessive and they should reverse it. I’m sure more voters will take extraordinary steps to show their anger over the pay raise before this is all said and done — that’s how a democracy works.”

In this case, it appears that at least one voter exercised democracy by using civil redress against the Louisiana Governor.

Bayoubuzz Note:  Join the protest rally at the Louisiana State Capitol on July 7 on the Louisiana Capitol Steps from 2 to 4.  The purpose of the rally is to try to convince Governor Jindal to veto the pay raise legislation and to demand greater accountability in Louisiana Government for the people of the state.  If you want to help, contact rally organizer, Stephen Sabludowsky, Publisher of Bayoubuzz.com at steve@bayoubuzz.com or call 504-339-3254.

Well, if this petition does not go through, then the Guv's office is assured that at least 180 days has to elapse before the next recall petition can be circulated... And so now, everyone has been manuvered to petition for recall on really a small issue, and if an even bigger issue is produced, you have no legal recourse to deploy another preemptive launch of opinion....... Hmmmmmm,,,, 180 days..... Well, that sort of takes us to Jan. of 2009.... And the Guvmnt is free to do whatever it pleases where the threat of recall could be concerned....... So hold your breaths, as you ponder what is or isn't to come next................

Rhett'sWife my dear, there are times when technology is appropriate, and nostalgia is appropriate, as for myself, I think it is a bit lazy to expect everything to be done at the touch of the button... It sort of leads to apathay, and a lack of appreciation.... I like going to the polling places, walking behind the curtain, making my choices, and letting them be recorded... What the push button approach will surely foster is a bunch of lazy, ignorant, uninformed folks pushing buttons based on their 'feelings' instead of on facts........ That is what the media is all about, that is what propoganda is all about..... "That fuzzy feel good feeling that keeps folks minds occupied and focused on 'want'.... It is sort of like that M&M feeling, plain on the outside, chocolaty on the inside, and it melts in your mouth, not in your hands......................... Define the difference between want and need and you will understand what is important..................

So who may I ask is going to be the Guv if Pi is 'recalled'? Sort of like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire don't you think? Ohhh, I forgot, you thought you were making the right choice in the first place.... So what is the fuss all about????? Aside from the fact that instead of the pay raises coming out of the Feds's pockets, it is going to be coming out of the state taxpayer's pockets..... Hmmmmm,,, Sounds like a case of a bunch of malcontents wanting to have their cake, and eat it too...... Or is there something even more foul afoot? I wonder what the puppet masters behind the curtains are thinking???? Is Pi perhaps not doing what 'they' want continued???? Pi, time to tell us what your 'Plans' really amount to if you have some..... If they are reasonable, reasonable people will do reasonable things...... As for myself, I have very little faith in you, but then again, you may surprise me yet...... I don't know...

Excellent list of items on which Jindal has proven his true colors. He's just another ambitious career politico. All of the reform proposals were phony or hollow but as regards taking special care of his special friends and keeping hold of his means to make backroom deals he can do that and does do that with the best of them. Again, no party has some kind of monopoly on shady business and wheeling and dealing. It's completely foolish to think that all Democrats are shady and wasteful and looking to make a career at the public trough and all Republicans are honest, efficient and competent. It's more like Republicans tend to make a nice, appealing show filled with incendiary rhetoric about fighting corruption and waste when they're not actually in office. We're accustomed to long-time Democrat domination of elected offices and so it's very hard for them to defend themselves against such charges. But...once Republicans do get into office they do the same exact things, act the same way and they're absolutely no less interested in getting fat off the public trough. Worse though, they can't govern.

Tony G, dear, we agree. However, we want to point out that this recall effort has resulted to a great extent with dear Stephen and others determined to see good government. This movement has been driven by angry citizens, who have had much more access to information than ever before via the internet. This morning's T-P outlines this fact. Too bad we cannot sign recall petitions online as well. Now the legislators could easily vote that in. Why, dears, with our computers we can go online to check our social security, our banking accounts, our various records, and pay those taxes online also. If we can do that, we sure could sign an internet recall petition with our registration records and passwords in hand. The legislators better look to the future. Many many not even be able to turn on a computer but they knew how to push the button on a raise and thereby push the buttons of the citizens of this state. Why, dears, they even push the button when they are out of the building. Ask that dear man Spuds about his interview with one of the legislators on the mobile phone. That fool (the legislator, not Spuds, that dear man) was on his way to meet his wife. I hope he was using bluetooth technology so that he could keep his eye on the road. Pi, dear, can you use the computer? If not, then ask your children to teach you. You are a mockery to the word Genius. You have shown your true colors - an ambitious, political hack, with two degrees. Too bad one of them was not in "common sense"

The recall effort must continue regardless if he vetoes the pay raise or not. How many times can we permit our supposed leader to go back on is word? Here's some insight from a gentleman from another forum. Bear in mind this gentleman was once an avid supporter of Jindal. He states a couple of reasons that a recall effort is the prudent thing to do. 1) implemented hiring freeze--phony---according to last Sunday’s TP annual state payroll as actually increased $70 million annually 2) implemented sweeping ethics reform--phony--the ethics laws passed require such a standard of evidence that many consider them unenforceable and 9 members of the governor appointed ethics board have resigned 3)cut spending--phony---Jindal and the legislators passed the largest budget from state sources in the history of the State and spent all our surplus. At the pace he is on the budget that was $17 billion the last year of Foster’s administration will be $40 billion by the end of Jindal’s first term. What happened to this guy? 4)cut taxes--mostly phony--Jindal claims credit for 6 tax cuts yet 4 of those passed in 2007 and their implementation timetable was slightly accelerated by Jindal, we all know his opposition to ending the state income tax and reforming Stelly, he did pass the elimination of a utility tax for industry of about $100 million. 5)economic development--phony--he gave $6 million to the former employer of his wife to move 30 jobs here, fought to make his friend and supporter Moret the highest paid economic development director in the USA, pushed and got a $300 million slush fund that can be spent in arbitrary ways by Jindal and Moret to bribe private businesses. 6)NGO reform--unknown--the governor set a standard that is basically if he likes it he will sign it. There are a bunch of them on his desk now. We will see. 7)Same ole Same ole will end--phony--three examples to watch--Jindal contributors were appointed to the Stadium and Exposition district--there was little debate as the State gave the Saints and Hornets $28 million, chiropractors reimbursement added to medicaid at higher rate than doctors--Faircloth’s wife and father in law are in the business as Coach points out here--will he veto it?, Jindal appoints a blue ribbon panel to advise on National Guard General and then stays with Foster’s choice 8) no raises for legisilators PHONY--no further explanation is needed here Now is there any wonder there is a recall effort???

Oh yes...the Jindal camp's ever reluctance to debate and now in office their tremendous effort constantly exerted to control the media speak volumes. All Jindal is is just yet another ambition-driven career politico. And unlike, say, the Clintons Jindal is definitely not any kind of policy-crafter. Jindal, the great Boy Wonder, simply doesn't know what he is doing. Republicans typically have a problem once in office, since they're usually self-righteously spouting about government being a waste, when they actually have to govern rather than just campaign and rail against things as opposed to Democrats, who, while they might be more given to greater regulation and bureaucracy, actually know how to govern and like to do it, and Jindal is no exception on this. It's almost as if Dan Quayle had become U.S. president. Blanco, for all her struggles, looks like a genius compared to this guy. Jindal may well have a lot of intelligence but that's not the issue. Governing is either something well beyond his ability or he doesn't want to do it or do anything other than promote his own career.

Again I say, why is everyone so surprised? Jindal is the same guy who when he bothered to show up in congress voted FOR a congressional raise and AGAINST a minimum wage increase. You can't change the spots on a leopard.

Go forth, Fournier! Elect a man to office. How did we get one who refused to debate, called his opponents corrupt, claimed to want corruption reform and now refuses to comment on the 10 little, 9 little, 8 little Indians of the ethics board members bolting and refuses to veto a double pay? It seems like the reforming of corruption into a whole different entity, not corruption reform with double legislator pay and the watering down of ethics rules for politicians while the people are supposed to be appeased by a repeal of the Stelly plan, a plan that only puts the people back to where they were before - NO real prize, no double pay, no watering down of the laws for the people, in general. No appeasement at all, if that was the plan. Maybe the voters weren't savvy enough to know better at the polls but seeing is believing or is it disbelieving that this is really happening???
