Louisiana, Joseph Cao, Bobby Jindal and David Duke

Written by: Stephen Sabludowsky

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Years ago, I dedicated a tremendous amount of my efforts to ensure that David Duke would be defeated in the many elections for which he ran.  I felt then that he was a great embarrassment to Louisiana, was the wrong messenger for the cause he was espousing, and was a blow-dried fraud.  He said that he had changed but his recent history at that time showed clear evidence that he still espoused the same type of views and was engaging in the same type of practices that had made him infamous as a Klansman.

Yesterday, Joseph Cao was sworn in as a US Congressman from a predominately African American congressional district.  As we all know, he is an émigré from Viet Nam.

Last year, an Indian-American, Bobby Jindal, was elected to be Governor of Louisiana.  He carried the part of the state that played a large role in his defeat in 2003 election.

While there is no doubt that Louisiana has major race problems as evidenced by the Jena incident and the New Orleans “chocolate city” melt down, it is obvious we have come a long way since David Duke received a majority of Louisiana white voters.

Yet, having a Indian American as our Governor and a Congressman formerly from Viet Nam as our Congressman does not mean that Louisiana would automatically vote for a black person as Governor.

Given the demography of the state, it would be only likely that an African American could be Governor if he were either a Republican or a very conservative democrat (and even that latter scenario would be tenuous).

Still, with the elections of Bobby Jindal and Joseph Cao, Louisiana can be proud that we are moving beyond race and ethnicity.  A state that lived with the embarrassment of David Duke now has the beginnings of possessing a multi-cultural reputation.  That moniker can only help send a good message to the rest of the world that Louisiana will vote for a person based upon politics and not based upon skin color or national origin.  My gosh, how far we have travelled in such a short period of time.  We should all be proud, but, we still have a long road to travel..

The editors for a fish wrap called Race Traitor have pretty much summed up the universal intent of those who are known and unknown directing their hate and vindictiveness towards European Americans: "Make no mistake about it: we intend to keep bashing the dead white males, and the live ones, and the females too, until the social construct known as ‘the white race’ is destroyed—not ‘deconstructed’ but destroyed." Remember: their hatred of anything that promotes and defends the interests of European Americans assumes a surface legitimacy because the hated “whites” are just a “social construct” as far as they are concerned. As for European Americans we need to put an end to the political correctness within the white community and stop worrying about whether or not we have "offended" some one. We already know how the system works. We need to shift focus from being observers to helping one another, not hindering ourselves. Yes, we are the descendants of a great people in spite of our flaws but no one is going to return us to our rightful place in America unless we get busy yesterday, and that includes preventing the harbingers of hate from getting away with defaming and attacking our folk. europeanamericansunited.org

Yeah, it is sort of like that.... Take the whole Superdome thing for instance.... Around the country around the globe CNN, FOX news, etc., etc., etc. ranting and raving about the poor-poor blacks and how they were being treated unfairly during this highwater event when the storm drains got backed up or something like that.... Kept hearing some kind of stupid rumor about a storm named Katrina, but it never hit New Orleans, and then when a storm named Rita hit Sabine Pass out Texas way they tried to blame it for New Orleans getting flooded a second time around in as many months.... Anyways, in looking at pictures of the Superdumb, er, uhhhhh, Superdome during the flood event I see all sorts of white folks in the pictures.... How is it that they weren't even given honerable mention for being there also? Oh, I know, it was another one of those publicized National Black Crisis.........................

I heard an interesting question on the radio recently: "What would be the media reaction to refusing to admit Burris as a senator had the Senate leader been a Republican?" I suspect there would be cries of "racism" - but since the Senate leader is a Democrat, well..... it's okay then.

Professor, what does any of that have to do with the plight of the Eskimos? You need to expand your horizons a little there Doc....

Steve, this is a cheap shot. Deprecating the progress the state has made in electing members of different ethnic groups by stating that Louisiana would not likely elect a black governor totally ignores the fact that only two states have elected a black as governor. The statement that certain conditions must come together for a black to elected governor applies to every state.

I do not know how old you are Mr. Quidd, but I (53) can clearly remember white only water fountains, white only laundrymats, fenced in sections at Tulane stadium for blacks attending Green Wave games in the early sixties....... either you are very young, or you have a short term memory. By every measurment known in the universe.... whites are more likely to vote for a black candidate then blacks are likely to vote for a white candidate. It apprears to me - if anyone can atribute racism to this measurement (as you do) - that there is more racism on the part of blacks then whites in this regard.

YET ANOTHER DAILY DISASTER IN SOME CORNER OF THE WORLD THAT IS GOING TO NEED AID FROM THE UNITED STATES; Strong earthquake rocks Costa Rica, - - -29 mins ago - - - - SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – A strong earthquake shook Costa Rica on Thursday, killing a child and sending frightened residents running into the streets of the capital as windows shattered and walls cracked……. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.1-magnitude temblor was centered 22 miles (35 kilometers) northwest of the capital of San Jose in the early afternoon, near the Poas Volcano national park.

"..........dismal treatment of African-Americans?" There we go with that AA term again... Or are you trying to bring up the Superdome? Dismal treatment? To who specifically singled out?

I think the lack of white votes for Obama in November coupled with the fact that we have gone from 2 African-Americans in Congress in the early 90s to none today shows that we haven't made any progress at all. The GOP is hiding behind Cao and Jindal rather than deal with their dismal treatment of African-Americans.

This racism thing that everyone is Wailing about sort of has me a bit perplexed…… From an Eskimo’s point of view you Caucasian and Black folks seem to really have your heads up your asses… I wonder why there is a ‘Black Caucus’… Sounds sort of like a racist organization to me……. Oh, I forgot, black people are ‘special’….. You know, ‘separate but equal’…….. Why isn’t there a ‘Polish Caucus’? Or a ‘Chinese Caucus’? Or how about a ‘Celtic Caucus’? And I often wonder where the special set-asides for Eskimo’s are… They have set-asides for American-Indians….. Oh, I forgot, there aren’t that many Eskimos running around loose……. So they don’t really warrant any attention……. And besides, who has ever heard of an Eskimo-American anyways? Hmmmmmm, perhaps we are being despaired against by the media? Ahhhhhhhhh RACISM!!!!!!!!!! There my poor-poor brethren are being forced to subsist on whale blubber and ice cubes…. Where’s the equality in that??????

"Sometimes, I think Bayou Buzz has gotten bigger than Steve can handle.".... That's a compliment and a challenge to Steve... If he wasn't so busy being successful, he'd have more time for details like getting rid of YOU, Mr.Written-By. I don't have to rally support ... we're ALL complaining. (But, that's what you LIKE - Isn't it?) Yes, it's time for Steve, or SOMEBODY, to take hold of the reins. There would be much more participation on BayouBuzz without the interruptions and spamming by Mr.Written-By.

Speaking of rules, or who decides what, or what or who decided what when or where... Check this story out; Cambodia marks Khmer Rouge fall - -- - - By: DENIS D. GRAY, Associated Press Writer – Wed Jan 7, 12:44 pm ET - - - - - PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – Thirty years after the fall of the Khmer Rouge, the specter of the murderous regime still haunted Cambodia on Wednesday as victims remembered the countless dead and the country prepared to finally try the movement's leaders….. More than 40,000 people jammed Phnom Penh's Olympic Stadium for speeches and a parade to mark the day Vietnamese troops entered the capital to oust the ultra-communists from power….. "On Jan. 7, my second life began," said a 59-year-old farmer whose father and sister died of starvation under the Khmer Rouge. "I want to see Khmer Rouge leaders prosecuted as soon as possible because they are getting old now."… She was one of millions who endured what many survivors said was "hell on earth."…. Phnom Penh, the capital, was emptied at gunpoint, its citizens forced to work in vast slave labor camps on starvation rations and under the constant threat of execution. Religion, marriages not approved by the state, money and almost all entertainment were banned….. When it was over, 1.7 million or more Cambodians had perished during the Khmer Rouge's 1975-79 rule……. But none of the surviving leaders have yet faced justice.

One day Hannibal the cannibal was walking through the jungle to visit his cannibal friend on the far side of the island….. Upon arrival and giving his greeting he could smell a fresh stew a boiling in the pot…. “What’s for lunch” he asked….. “Oh, it’s a freshly caught German” said the other cannibal adding; “And man was he some kind of angry when I put him in!!! It’s about done though, would you like some?”…. “No thanks” said Hannibal, ‘Sour Kraut’ usually gives me gas.”

Two cannibals were sitting around the fire eating a freshly caught comedian, the first cannibal said to the second cannibal: “Hmmmmmmm, now this is some pretty good eating, what do you think of it” the other cannibal turned to him and replied “ I don’t know, the meat tastes a little funny to me.”

KajunKringe, you are hardly what could be considered as the 'bastion' of decency and politeness. You mention something about "rules". Whose rules? YOUR RULES? You ‘rotate’ very nicely… Speaking of your perversity during your ‘rotation’ sessions: Dissent? When you write “I think Bayou Buzz has gotten bigger than Steve can handle.” What’s that? A compliment to Steve’s leadership qualities? Or is that a challenge to Steve, or is it actually a challenge to the other readers to either see it your way as you ‘whirl around’ with the other ‘boarders’ on the buzz boreds slapping your latherings on the screen? Remember, as you point your index finger at the screen, four fingers are pointing back at you……. Get a life……

Sarah Wailing asks of the annoying "Written By" character, "What is your problem, anyway?"....... Dear Sarah- a lot of us really enjoy this website and blog- but find the obnoxious "Written By" guy {StoneHead] to be extremely offensive and crude.... [Report Spam?- to who?] Steve Sabludowski needs to register participants on the BayouBuzz... and penalize those who can't play by the rules of decency and politeness. We try to include "the nutjob"- but, he only wants to create dissent. (Sometimes, I think Bayou Buzz has gotten bigger than Steve can handle.)

We have come a long way as concerns race relations..... a very long way. With time race (and other things that we use to define how we differ) will mean less and less.

I have no problem, however, your delussional ranting is sort of a pain... The only folks that have a problem with race are the people that keep screaming about it.... Why don't you allow yourself to let that flea bitten dog simply fade away from the fuzzy recesses of your mind..... Sheeeeeshhhhhh..... Like an Eskimo would really give a rat's bunghole about your race ranting?

Written by or StrongConcrete: Once again you are wrong. This writer is saying that we have come a long way. We have. He is being realistic about the current state of affairs concerning race. Racism still exists in this state on both sides but we have come and long way and have a long way to go. Bravo to Steve for believing in equality and brave enough to talk about race which we do need to discuss openly and honestly. You seem to always have a vendetta against Steve and I think it is your own bias that is showing. You criticize him for everything. What is your problem, anyway?

Just saw a rather appauling, yet no less interesting news story on CNN a couple of minutes ago that reflects the nature of segments of our society… Someplace in New Jersey, at a hospital, a young woman gave birth…… Unfortunately the child was a ‘still born’ delivery…… As it turns out, when the young woman went to claim the body later on for burial, she came to find out that the little still born body had been thrown in the trash….. No, not medical waste as if that is a more politically correct term of disposing of a human body, it was thrown out with the rest of the hospital trash in a garbage can……. Of course I am going to let you draw your own conclusions if you get a chance to see this story which I am sure will air several dozen more times, but what it appears to me to be is there is no race involved when it comes on down to the powers some people think they have over others, we are are merely bodies that can be worked and taxed to death, and if that is not possible, we are thrown in the trash with mute contempt because a toll couldn’t be extracted from our blood, sweat, and tears……….

---------That moniker can only help send a good message to the rest of the world that Louisiana will vote for a person based upon politics-----------???? Steve, those are merely hypocritical semantics……. Race is the focus point you presented, and this entire article is steeped in an attempt to capitalize on racism…….. Every example you used is racist… Simple as that……. Racism has been a dead issue for several decades now…… You read soooooooooooooooooooo 60’s like……………..
