There were two events this weekend that various politicians around Louisiana have congratulatory comments—the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl victory and Mitch Landrieu’s mayoral election. Here are some of the comments that have been sent to Bayoubuzz.com
Mayor Nagin
"Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints on their first ever Super Bowl victory. This is a tremendous night for New Orleans. Tonight's victory is symbolic of the spirit of the people in New Orleans and nationwide who never give up, remain committed and "Believe." This is the story of our great city. On behalf of all New Orleanians and every member of the Who Dat Nation, keep the faith. I thank the Saints for their positive contributions and look forward to honoring them upon their return from Miami."
Sen. Mary Landrieu
“Tonight’s Super Bowl victory highlights one of the greatest days in our city’s proud 300-year history. All year it has been clear that this is a team of destiny.
“These Saints represent all that is good about New Orleans -- our resilience, our fight, and our willingness to battle through doubt and adversity. They are our heart and soul, and tonight they have lifted the spirits of a city and an entire region. The Saints’ guts and determination have carried the Who Dat Nation to a place we only dreamed of four years ago.
“We could not be prouder of Sean Payton, Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and the rest of this Super Bowl Championship team. Who Dat?! Who Dat?! Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?!”
Democratic Party Chair Buddy Leach
(Baton Rouge) In response to overwhelming victories by Mayor-Elect Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans Saints this weekend, Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Buddy Leach issued the following statement:
"I congratulate Mitch Landrieu on his decisive win and the people of New Orleans for coming together to speak with one voice about the future of the CrescentCity. Other Democratic candidates contributed to a healthy and honest debate that made us proud. Mitch Landrieu has quite a challenge ahead of him, but by all indications he will also have a unified city behind him.
"Mitch Landrieu, along with the Saints players, coaches and management, gives New Orleanians a common bond, something to be proud of and the building blocks for a healthy, safe and sustainable New Orleans.
"A weekend in which New Orleanians came together like never before has given way to the dawn of a new day in New Orleans. With Mayor Landrieu's leadership and a reinvigorated sense of unity, New Orleans may just have turned its luck around for good.
That's the only way I can think to describe the Saints victory in the Super Bowl last night.
After 42 years of both hope and frustration, it feels great to finally say the words: "New Orleans Saints, Super Bowl Champions!"
While obviously the Saints players, coaches, and organization deserve credit for this magical year, we can't forget the incredible support from the Who Dat Nation that catalyzed this season into an inspiration for all of us.
I truly believe that not only was the community's embrace of this team critical to its success, it was the Saints' embrace of the community that made the bond between team and fans so strong. How could we not root hard for the Saints, when we saw throughout the year how hard they root for all of us?
Seeing Louisianians brought together to rally behind something we all believe in — in spite of our differences or disagreements — has certainly given us a lesson that I hope Washington will learn from.
So congratulations to the New Orleans Saints and Who Dat Nation, and let's keep the celebration going — I know I won't forget this victory for the rest of my life!
New Orleans has lost with the election of Landrieu and Louisiana has gained with his leaving! Maybe Melancon will follow him also? Written by Driver

Politics and Sports, what an interesting cocktale, er uh,,, cocktail...... Folks drinking deeply of their tonics without giving cause or effect much contemplation. But it is good to hear the folks in New Orleans are enjoying their selves. Thought for the day: One family builds a wall, two families enjoy it. That is until it is time to move beyond its confines....
