Today, the John Kennedy campaign responded to Bayoubuzz’s request for a statement concerning a new poll that indicates that today the current US Senator has broadened her lead over Kennedy.

In an email response, a spokesperson for the Kennedy campaign said, “Our response:

"Its political silly season. Polls will go up and down all the way until Election Day.  Zogby in the past couple of weeks had John Kennedy leading by 6 points.   Everyone knows that this election will be coming down to the wire.

The only facts we know are that mary landrieu is hiding behind a blitz of negative advertising which is full of lies because Louisianans are learning about her record as the states most liberal senator in history

No matter how you cut it - voting with barack obama 81 percent of the time or putting party politics over people"s energy needs - mary landrieu is just wrong for Louisiana. "

According to the Landrieu Campaign yesterday, the poll that indicates a broadening of her lead over Louisiana Treasurer, John Kennedy.  IHere is her news release "The poll was commission by the  Rasmussen Reports http://action.marylandrieu.com/page/m/67daff2aac1e5616/X9FzFD/VEsH/

Senator Mary Landrieu, once viewed as the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent this election year, has opened a significant lead over Republican challenger John Kennedy in her bid for re-election.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows the Louisiana Democrat attracts 53% of the vote while the Republican hopeful earns just 37% support. A month ago, Landrieu was leading Kennedy by only five percentage points, 49% to 44%.

Since that time, Landrieu has solidified her support among Democrats while Kennedy has lost ground with Republicans. The incumbent senator attracts now attracts 84% of Democrats, up 10 percentage points from a month ago. Kennedy wins just 72% of the Republican vote, down 10 points from July.

Until late last year, Kennedy himself was a Democrat. Two weeks ago, Landrieu's campaign launched their first attack ad of the season painting Kennedy as an office-hopping politician who previously ran for the Senate as a Democrat and supported John Kerry for president.

At the same time, Landrieu has been one of the few Democrats to openly support calls for lifting the ban on offshore oil drilling. That issue is very popular with voters nationwide and in Louisiana. Last month's poll found that 75% of Louisiana voters favored offshore drilling. When "leaners" are included in the current polling, it's Landrieu 56% Kennedy 39%. Landrieu is seeking her third six-year term.

While Landrieu's election vulnerability now seems a thing of the past, many Republican Senate seats are potentially in play for Democrats including seats in Alaska, New Hampshire, Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, Mississippi, Minnesota and Virginia.

Landrieu is viewed favorably by 59% of the state's voters, unchanged from a month ago. Kennedy earns positive reviews from 52%, down three points. Landrieu is viewed very favorably by 35% while only 18% have such positive feelings about Kennedy.

The simple fact is that administrations of BOTH political parties have long been guilty of "big government." If anyone believes that voting GOP means voting for a record of less spending, smaller government, etc., they're quite mistaken. The actual historical facts simply don't support that thesis, no matter how much that right-wingers want so badly to cling to it, and most especially not with this current administration. Moreover, if what you want is a larger federal deficit, higher unemployment and less economic growth overall then most definitely, according to the actual historical facts, the GOP is the party for you.

I have very liberal social leanings, nevertheless I distrust government. Why? Every single story of misappropriation of tax payer paid funds, every story of any (left or right wing) politician "living large" on tax payer paid monies - simply reinforces my belief that I already pay MORE than enough taxes and should therefore pull the lever for the "R" candidate. I don't beleve in creationism, do not desire to "hold down the black man", I have no problem with gay marriage... I simply think there are far too many crooks who - in the name of "protecting the poor and disenfranchised" - are crooks who piss away our tax dollars (see the Jeffersons as an example*). Crooks like Bill Jefferson will be kept in office - by those who do not pay taxes. The lines - financially speaking - are drawn.__________ * not George and Wheezy - not THOSE Jeffersons

It's been going on for 20 years now but it is amazing how effective the republicans have been at making the word liberal into the word "nigger". You would think after 8 years of Bush the brainwashed myopic morons would have had enough but we have Louisiana as one of the fews states trending right. For the record Ms. Mary's record is pretty darn moderate.
