While, there won’t be live coverage, there certainly will be plenty of questions from reporters. For months, I personally have been waiting for the protagonists of this Louisiana drama to take the stage and on Monday it appears that will happen in Baton Rouge in front of the Press Club.
Since early this year, the emails coming from the various campaigns and third parties have been interesting, fun and yes, nauseating. Both Mary Landrieu and her opponent John Kennedy are good people and are well intended.Hopefully the candidates will take the high road and describe who they are, what they have done, and where they want to take Louisiana and the nation. Likewise, hopefully, “name calling” will be a vestige of the past
There are a variety of issues in which I agree and disagree with the candidates. But, that is not the point. Instead, I hope we see the type of campaign we witnessed when Mary Landrieu’s brother Mitch opposed Ray Nagin. As emotional as that campaign was, it was gentlemanly on the surface.Louisiana could use some old fashion Southern Hospitality.Distorting records of opponents might bring out the voting base but Louisiana can do better even on a campaign that is very important for the state and the nation.
So, when the candidates face the media in the first of a series of debates, the public will have a chance to see, read and hear what was said.Learning about the substantive platforms and candidates’ differences are important. This play is ready for its opening number.Hopefully, the candidates for US Senate won’t do a “number” on us. After four hurricanes and a very shaky economy, we need answers and dignified stage presence, not a three-ring circus.
Miss Mary is a sharp politician. Scheduling a debate when the Saints will be on national TV. Genius! Written by Sid

"old fashion Southern Hospitality" there Steve???? I've got some news for you there sunshine, it is virtually non existent.... Unless you consider knives in the taxpayers back to be a form of accepted "old fashion Southern Hospitality". Me? I want to scrap!!!!!!! That is true "Southern Style hospitality". None of that polite smiling and out the side of your mouth meely mouth crap... It's put up, or shut up...... I have learned the hard way, "You either stand for something, or you are prone to fall for anything"..... And that is MY elitist point of view...... 'Cause I've got friends in low places, Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases - my blues away.... And I'll be okay.... I'm not big on social graces... Think I'll slip on down to the oasis...... Oh I've got friends... In low places...... I guess I was wrong - I just don't belong - But then, I've been there before... And everything is alright .. I'll just say goodnight.... And I'll show myself to the door - I didn't mean to cause a big scene..... Just wait 'til I finish this glass - Then sweet little lady.. I'll head back to the bar - - - - And you can kiss my ass
