Louisiana Rep. Labruzzo Must Sterilize Ideas

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

It has been comical and somewhat unfortunate to see and hear Louisiana Rep. John Labruzzo from David Duke’s old District 81 to be a fixture on CNN promoting and defending his sterilizing plan.  Many fellow legislators feel he throws out ideas that are a work in action.  Others feel that he proposes legislation that does not pass.

However, the young legislator who was at the center of the legislative pay raise ruckus and who backed away from a program he personally felt was important to his family and young legislators spending months at the Capitol has also taken leading rolls in pushing legislation for the Jindal campaign.

Recently, LaBruzzo was one of a group of legislators to help push medical mental health services for the ailing New Orleans area.  Yet, one legislator has told Bayoubuzz that Labruzzo has been considered to be the most ridiculed legislator in Baton Rouge.

Whether Labruzzo was just thinking out loud with his sterilization plan of poor women, he has now become a well-known name nationally and statewide.  He might be the brunt of ridicule and he is wrong to suggest that the only people who oppose his plan are those who want to continue an institutionalized welfare system.

Labruzzo has made his mark whether he wanted to, or not.

Getting grilled on CNN and in the local media is not the way to acquire a good reputation.  He says he has support for his idea.  He might.  So did David Duke when a similar idea was pushed when he held the same House seat.  But, that controversy did not make Duke popular or effective.  If anything, it made Duke appear dangerous and zany.   Perhaps Labruzzo should begin to sterilize his own thoughts before he throws them out for public discussion.

Isn't it obvious? After we taxpayers are fleeced subsidizing the poor and Amtrac, we'll be fighting each other over the pickens that are left.

what does the sterilization plan to help control the booming problems associated with the welfare class have to do with Amtrac or Pickens??

Clearly we need to address our welfare society and the problems the members of that society create. Clearly the lack of responsible family planning needs to be addressed. Encouraging women to get sterilized, fine. Even providing FREE sterilization, fine....after all there is no chance whatsoever these people will pay for it. BUT, when the Gov PAYS people to make reproductive decisions, it's too much. The RESULT is good, but the MEANS won't fly.

Now that the poor little underprivileged and despaired against rants seem to have subsided somewhat, perhaps more fruitful ideas can be presented…. As what is always desired above and beyond the schismatic topics that constantly pop up…. All problems have multiple solutions, and interestingly enough need and surpluses go hand in hand…. You cannot have one without the other, or there would be nothing that could be used for comparisons or discussions sake….. Energy, economy, productivity, all common threads…. I am very thankful for T. Boone Pickens personally funded spots he provides on the generic television… Conservation is a common theme, as well as increased production… Almost sounds as if we are firmly in the hands of a grand oxymoron, but, that is how societies work…. Energy, very important. Conservation, equally so…… As well as the hybrids being proposed (yet go unbuilt, or under developed because no one is investing in them), wind energy (because no one sees the existence of a truly competitive edge that will cause this to come into fruition…. I have one though, the installation of offshore pylons which under my calculations, in conjunction with my technologies and approaches can reduce the total cost by approximately a third under the proper business atmosphere), mass transit systems MUST be expanded upon….. This will provide jobs, stimulate the economy, and provide a valuable return to society AS WELL as be an energy conservation measure……. I believe that there needs to be a richer or more robust palate of alternatives presented to the masses…… for their considerations, approvals, or pursuits…….. Are our leaders truly considering the best for all? And no, I am not proposing another Amtrak, or similar governmentally born entity…. And no, I am not advocating the infusion of foreign investment capital much in the same way as we are selling off numerous taxpayer funded highway toll systems around the nation……

There will always be some - of any sex, color or creed - who will automatically dislike, distrust and disparage those who are "different" from themselves ( that’s a lotta "dissing" goin' on dere). No big deal as long as people as a whole are moving towards judging individuals as just that - individuals and not a member of some group. We ALL have a long way to go but humanity is getting there, at different paces but "getting there" nonetheless. While I do not refute that there is white racism which still affects many black people’s chances of a better life nevertheless compared with the past I truly believe that the main impediment towards any individual’s advancement in our nation in this day and age are their own selves; their lack of work ethic and drive will hold them back more than institutionalized prejudices, IMHO. That is an important difference from the past when women and minorities could not advance in the workplace or politics not matter how capable they were.

I think one of the funniest things of all though is when I hang around with some of my black {am I allowed to lable them as such, or does that make me a racist too?} aquaintences (I didn't say friends, a black person would say that is so sterotypical of a white guy, "having black friends and all") while they express fears over the growing population of Mexicans and Koreans..... It is funny as hell... T-Duuuuhhhhhhhhbbbbbb, you really need to get around and travel more.... You ever hung around on the North Side of Memphis? I doubt it…… Fairly rough neighborhood… How about the South Side of Detroit? Saginaw? Flint? Pontiac? How about Watts? Harlem?................ You are soooooooo misguided and inexperienced it makes me bust my sides laughing at your drivel…….. Your point? How about answering a question for us? Is it better to be black in America than black in Ethiopia or Darfur??????? I know you don’t have a clue as to where Spunkie is going to get his money, so how about Kunta Ubunko in Rhodesia????

Kerry, I have no doubt that you are not a racist - but read the post that I was responding to - who do you think the writer is talking about when he refers to folks living in the "neighborhood of Chippiwa (sic), Annuciation (sic), Josephine?" There are A LOT of racists in this country, Kerry. Yes, we've made progress, but we have a long way to go. TW

Tee Dub, I have black friends (they'll be attending my wedding next month) who went to school, worked steadily at a job and only quit to take a better job. They are self sufficient and successful people. I have (white) family members who dropped out of school, drink and do drugs excessively, will not hold a steady job and basically live off the taxpayers. The first set of people are happy due to the choices they freely made, the second set are unhappy due to the choices they made. Skin color has nothing to do with it. Although prejudice will always be around, it has less and less to do with holding people back; they do this themselves with their own free will.

Rep. LaBruzzo needs to resign his vice chair on Health and Welfare -- he is unfit to serve in this capacity

The only good lazy people are the rich white ones? Like that coke-snorting frat boy George W. Bush? Or that vapid Paris Hilton? You all are pathetic. Your inability to see through your own racist agendas and your own prejudices are mind-boggling. Here's a great piece about "white privilege" by Tim Wise: "For those who still can't grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help. * White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because "every family has challenges," even as black and Latino families with similar "challenges" are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay. * White privilege is when you can call yourself a "f**kin' redneck," like Bristol Palin's boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you'll "kick their fu**kin' *ss," and talk about how you like to "shoot sh*t" for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug. * White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action. * White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don't all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you're "untested." * White privilege is being able to say that you support the words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance because "if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it's good enough for me," and not be immediately disqualified from holding office--since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the "under God" part wasn't added until the 1950s--while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals. * White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you. White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was "Alaska first," and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she's being disrespectful. * White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do--like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor--and people think you're being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college--you're somehow being mean, or even sexist. * White privilege is being able to convince white women who don't even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a "second look." * White privilege is being able to fire people who didn't support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt. * White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God's punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you're just a good church-going Christian, but if you're black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you're an extremist who probably hates America. * White privilege is not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a "trick question," while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O'Reilly means you're dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced. * White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it a "light" burden. * And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren't sure about that whole "change" thing. Ya know, it's just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain. White privilege is, in short, the problem."

Slightly off subject, but relates to welfare. The current administration is dishonest. They get approval and big bucks to create high end, "mixed income developements" then they leave the property set aside to sell and to rent for 6 months. After 6 months of vacancy they go to council and get permission to make them all Section 8. Because no one wants to live with Section 8 tenants. Solie and Can Company were mixed income, 90% people who pay, 10% public housing. Even those developments have trouble with only 10%. NAGIN ISN'T STUPID, HE KNOWS FROM HISTORY AND RESEARCH THAT THERE IS NO 'MIXED INCOME' DEVELOPMENT, IT IS A SCAM TO PROVIDE HIGH END SECTION 8 HOUSING AND GAIN A LOT OF POLITICAL SUPPORT. Giving people free houses is expensive way to buy votes.

Problem is that if a politician creates the old, WORKFARE, where a person is actually supposed to produce, the culture of 'do nothingism' kills the deal. More and more kids are produced and if the government cuts back entitlement, they are seen as punishing the kids, not punishing the adults. There is no fix. We will live in a welfare state forever. So work hard, because you have to support yourself and the do nothings. Politically, it's suicide to state that there is a group of people who are lazy. These lazy people won't go to school, won't work, they are just going to sit around stoned, commiting crime, having kids, and taking handouts.......we are cutting you off! Won't happen. Welfare State Forever. ANYTHING STRONGER THAN A MERE SUGGESTION FOR RESPONSIBLE PARENTING AND RESPONSIBLE LIVING IS RACISM....POLITICALLY SPEAKING

"You seem to think that they have it made - "free mansions" and the like. A really simple question - would you want to grow up black in America?" Guess you didn't read, "STILL NO PROGRESS". So of course not. Of course I don't want to be part of the lazy non-working people who rely on free stuff and MAKE NO PROGRESS OTHER THAN TO GET FREE HANDOUTS. OF COURSE I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE BLACK. I WOULD BE AN UPPER MIDDLE CLASS BLACK WHO WOULD SCARE THE HELL OUT OF EVERYONE I MEET ON THE STREET BECAUSE MY BLACK THUG COUNTERPARTS HAVE SHOWN THE WORLD BLACKS ARE CRIMINALS. I WOULD BUY A PERFECTLY GOOD HOUSE IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD BUT EVEN THOUGH I WAS HARD WORKING, NEIGHBORS WOULD NOT LIKE ME SINCE I DRIVE THEIR PROPERTY VALUES DOWN. THE WORSE THING IS THAT LAW ABIDING WORKING BLACKS ARE TARNISHED FROM THE ACTIONS OF THE BLACKS WHO ARE DRUG THUGS, LAZY, AND THE LIKE. The government, including mr. nagin and hano, help keep these stereotypes accurate by REWARDING IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR. TEE DUB.....simple question, can you demonstrate how rewarding irresponsible behavior including giving away free houses (THAT NEVER REQUIRE ANY PROGRESS AT ALL, NEVER REQUIRES A JOB, NO WEENING OFF THE DOLE, COMPLETELY FREE IN PERPETUITY) has done anything good at all? (the neighborhood with the free houses is so crime ridden they have a police substation there..."mixed income development" HA HA HA HA HA)

I think the stance of many house Republicans is "no bailout bill" - not "how to cobble together a bailout bill. "At the very least I welcome the delay in this bailout package as the longer it takes the more time people will have to realize that if these big Wall Street firms collapse our economy will not collapse along with them. The points you make about how many Republicans are bigoted and racist are soewhat true, THAT is my quandry: I support the Democrats on social issues such as equality but abhor the "tinkering" they want to do with the free market. That doesn't mean I support no government oversight or safety nets or minimum wage laws, OSHA or the like - rather it is governemnt going too far in their market manipulations and doing more harm than good (CRA {where "affordable housing" equals unwise lending practices} and its contribution to the present mess is but one example of this).

McCain is a total hypocrite for playing up his "maverick" side and pretending to be one always able to "reach across the aisle" and treat the other side with civility and decency, given the seething contempt and condescension he visibly displayed at the debate and one sense the same streak in more magnified form in local conservatives. When the old-style liberals group were in control of Congress (and were often serving simultaneously with the older style conservatives of which there are very few now) there was true civility and collegiality. Much of the blame for the change in tone in both the national capital and in our state capital belongs to the modern, more strident conservative movement whose practitioners seem often to look to win election by looking to connect not with the "better angels" of voters' emotions but rather with the darker elements, i.e. greed, hate, bigotry, prejudice, etc. Labruzzo's comments were not offered up in any spirit other than that and he's plainly wrong for that. Moreover, such an attitude in general, as also exemplified by the demagogue ridiculousness from the House Republicans, who were, in fact, totally bereft of ideas of how to improve the bailout bill, regardless of their stubbornness, along with the usual GOP "holier than thou" sanctimony, as exemplified by one David Vitter, has to stop. And the blame for the lack of civility in Congress and legislatures lies squarely on the modern-conservative GOP; it's not something where both sides are at fault. We're never going to really solve the problems and issues that there are, whether it's welfare cheating or something else, as long as such an attitude persists. That's a guarantee.

Kajunlady, dear, what does all of this mean. Namely the guy who spends all the big bucks and looks good is not necessarily the one best qualfied for a position. Perhaps a few wrinkles, a little age, etc. might indicate some experience and some ability to help this area, this state, and this age. We all need to look beyond the promises and at the heart of the issue. Some plain old logic, some experience, some determination, etc. may be the key. Unfortunately, people are too interested in peripheral issues and do not see to the heart of the matter. In other word the voter has to use his/her mind a bit better. A little logic and common sense will go a long way.
