Louisiana Senator Landrieu Votes For Health Care Debate To Continue

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu has just spoken on the Senate floor stating that she was in favor of allowing the Health Care debate to continue but that she still has concerns about the ultimate legislation on the floor..

Landrieu, a Democrat, stated that health care reform was needed but that she had problems with the current Senate legislation.

Landrieu also suggested that she had been unfairly criticized for inserting language in the current legislation that would benefit Louisiana.   This language would benefit Louisiana which is expected to pay higher costs for Medicaid in the upcoming years due to recent revenues from hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  The inserted language would reduce the amounts that Louisiana would be forced to pay (according to Senator Landrieu by 300 million dollars).  Landrieu said Republican Governor Bobby Jindal and all members of the Louisiana Congressional delegation is in favor of this language.

Senator Landrieu is a major swing vote and her vote appears to be necessary for the current Senate legislation to pass.

Yeah, the "Louisiana Purchase" Congresswoman is rather amusing... Sort of cements the ideas of us that folks around the nation have.... And some folks are gullible enough to think there is a Saintsation that has the hearts and minds of the nation going on out here... Joe Montana and John Ellway were a prime example of what true competion was...

Can you explain what it is that she stands for, other than reelection? Would that be "the little man"? Or would that be the entrenched power of democratic party vote-buying politics?

I applaud Senator Landrieu , she has stood for what she believes in and has the courage to do so, more than I can say for Gov. Jindal and as for that squeak Sen. vitter, he is a nay - nay all the way, has no courage and no backbone.

Not a Fan, You of course nailed exactly how this cynical game is played. The problem is that Louisiana is populated with a huge number of supremely ignorant people who will buy her lies and believe her press releases. Whenever they need 60, she's in the bag for the dems, and whenever they need 51, she'll play her blue dog role. Why feed a part-time blue dog when you can elect someone who stands for right on EVERY vote. Vitter will use Landrieu's treachery to show why we don't want Melancon in the house. He'll play the game EXACTLY like she does.

Landrieu has betrayed the Citizens of Louisiana with her vote with the Devil's Advocate, that is the Owhampy Adm. of D. C. along with the Melancon faction in the State. From the comments made thus far, I see that we have some ignorant and stupid citizens who are trying to destroy the Capitalism and Free Interprise in America! I also feel that Jindal should be more "Outspoken" in regards to the stands that Landrieu has taken, but Politicians, as you know, make Strange Bedfellows! Mary has sold us out again, along with her Little brother Mitch and the rest of the family!

Mary might as well get her job with a lobbying firm lined up because I think she has finally proved that she could care less what her constituents think or want.

Mrs. Snelling better watch what she does. Next election time, she will find herself facing some very strong competition, dears.

Make no mistake, people, Mary is voting FOR bringing the bill to the floor so she can vote AGAINST it when it goes for a vote. It takes 60 votes to bring the bill to the floor, but only 51 to pass it in the Senate. She can say she voted for "open debate" (get real, Andrew) and then tell her constituents, who are vastly against this bill, that she voted against it, knowing they don't need her vote. It is a deliberate dodge to PASS the bill. She knows full well that the Democratic majority in the Senate will pass anything, no matter how bad it is just to say they did, so everyone knows that THIS vote is the real vote to stop the madness. If you like the way FEMA, the Corps of Engineers, the VA Hospital and the Post Office work, I'm sure you'll love Obamacare. You Democrats are morons.

Landrieu is doing the right thing by working for the people of Louisiana while David Vitter remains irrelevant.

I can not believe that you voted yes to continue this health care bill, selling Louisiana out for a million dollars, when even you agree this bill still needs a lot of work.

WOW! Mary voted with Harry. What a surprise. Is there any doubt she will also vote for passage of the final bill whatever that may be? She is conducting a high dollar fundraiser for Harry. Does anyone really believe she is not going to vote to way she is ordered?

I think this is a solid decision on the Senator's part. Voting to have an open and honest DEBATE IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING. All this means is that Sen. Landrieu believes the Senate should have a discussion of this bill, if there is no debate on the bill then potential changes can't even be made. A Republican fillibuster of this bill would amount to an obstruction of the legislative process that this country is built on.
