Louisiana US Senate Race: The Kennedy Campaign Wisecrack

Written by: Stephen Sabludowsky

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

I know John Kennedy.

John Kennedy has been a friend of mine.

His campaign staff is no John Kennedy.

Treasurer Kennedy’s campaign staff is hurting his chances of winning and the latest comment from his staff shows exactly why he is behind in the polls.

After Southeastern University of Louisiana released its latest poll (one that mirrors a recent independent Rasmussen poll showing Landrieu ahead by low double digits among chronic voters), the Times Picayune quoted the following response:

“The Kennedy campaign's communications director, Leonardo Alcivar, disputed the poll's findings, saying sarcastically that those who did the poll must be "smoking crack. . . . Nobody believes this poll." Last week, Kennedy's internal polling showed Landrieu holding onto a 47 percent to 42 percent margin. “

But, whether Alcivar was sarcastic or not, the statement absolutely is insulting to the school, its students, its faculty and the Louisiana people.

Would Alvicar say the same about his own pollster who scores Kennedy higher than the independent polls?

The entire concept that a campaign spokesperson would suggest that students or a university or its instructor is “smoking crack”, even if it were a joke is the very reason that Kennedy right now is behind in the polls and is not receiving the endorsements of the major newspapers such as the Times Picayune or the Shreveport Times, Sheriffs, Chiefs of Police and District Attorneys from throughout Louisiana or even former Republican Governor Dave Treen.  Kennedy can certainly lose an election he could have won.

He has hired outside consultants who do not understand the Louisiana culture, its niceties, and the relationships.  They have not developed strong ties with politicians, with media, with decision-makers and, in general, the Louisiana community.

Bill Kristol wrote two weekends ago that John McCain should fire his staff and start over.  It might not be a bad idea for a good man such as John Kennedy.  He has been poorly served by individuals he has hired from the outside world, who come into Louisiana, and then who hit and run once an election is over and go off to Somewhere USA.

Kennedy must recognize that he is being defined by his own staff and not by himself or even by Senator Landrieu.

At the very minimum, Kennedy should apologize to Southeastern’s University and to Louisiana universities.

His own reputation must transcend this election.  The John Kennedy I have known is a much better man than the person his campaign is making him out to be.    John Kennedy’s future in Louisiana is in his own mind and voice.  If he does not control his own campaign, how can he expect us to believe he can take control of the US Senate.  The real John Kennedy should stand up and be heard, much sooner rather than never.

And to soften the last post for ya there Clarence, I believe at the end of an earlier post it was put down as........ "So don’t kill the messenger there Clarence, examine what the message is and who it is addressed to and for what reasons… That’s the smart position, no college needed….."..... But noooooo, 'WE' (a more gramatically correct form of 'Us' as it relates to sentance structuring in this case) Have to put up with your smack down...................... Peace out dude...

Clarence, You pompous puffed up smidgen of blowfish spunk.......... What would cause you to think for even a second that you are a representative of 'Us'?...... Ehhhh, I suppose you are merely one of those amongst the uninformed and unimaginative masses huddled out there in lala land that can't put two good ideas together at one time..... However, so that I do not come off as being completely condescending of you and your inherent nature I will concede that you may be a member of a krewe of 'the few', if that is what your idea of 'us' is..... but when you tell me to “get on welfare”, I have to ask; “What on earth makes you think for another second that I would want a state job?” Because these days, as near as I can tell, that is pretty much what a state job is anymore, a taxpayer funded 9 - 5 welfare slot...... And in as far as who or who isn’t is hard ; I would suppose that Major General Doug O'Dell is going to forward some kind of report to Washington saying that it is Louisiana that is hard up, and needs some more funds... I appreciate the compliment when you wrote "You might be really bright,..........." And I also appreciate your realization when you say; "but, you need help." But all I can figure on that last statement is to say; “Well sweet pea, why don't you do US a favor, and extend some of that help you claim I should be getting by spreading the word that YOU also want tax reductions, as well as an improved and measurable increase in safety and security here in Louisiana that can be provided by sound ideas and principles such as those that make up STRONGCONCRETE...... Now in the future, after you have stated; "It is impossible to follow your diatribes" … Consider that the preceding discourse (much more accurate synonym there chief) was an attempt to write on a 2nd grade level so that your slow mind could follow the script....... Nuff said fer ya there Nespah???

Strong Conrete, I say this with all due respect. You might be really bright, but, you need help. It is impossible to follow your diatribes. You probably have a lot of good points but you are all over the place. The self-promotion is also horrible. Are you really that hard up? If so, get on welfare or stop spending your time on these Buzzboards. Do us a favor, huh? Get some help, ok? And Sid, it will not be just sticks and stones, it will be votes and your guy will lose. He has run a miserable campaign and if he can't reign in his campaign, then his loss will rain defeat all over his victory party cake.

This is indeed not the John Kennedy that I know. Moreover had he run on his fiscal conservative record as treasurer, coupled with his long standing frank observations on various state government proclivities, he might very well be in the leading candidate slot. Instead I think that Landrieu will win. What a shame.

Perhaps a couple of good Aggie joke could help snuff some of your incense waftings there Clarence? For one thing, polls during political campaign processes above and beyond being an immediate tool where consideration for the concerns of voters can be gauged should be OUTLAWED….. Political Polls are nothing more but a propagandist ploy…. As too should the Electoral College be OUTLAWED….. This current form of election processes as condoned virtually guarantees that NO third party can ever get elected…. Now, in as far as a derogatory comment about some Louisiana institution of higher learning? Hey, ‘If the shoe fits, wear it’ is how the old adage goes ……. Consider this, the efforts exerted towards the Louisiana Coastal Erosion Control / Coastal Restoration processes utilize to a great extent, the ‘knowledge base’ (ha-ha-ha-ha) of some of Louisiana’s ‘premier’ institutions of higher learning? The result so far, well, aside from most of their little ‘projects’ and ‘experiments’ of the past 10 years previous to Katrina/Rita getting ‘washed off the map’ due to their inept approaches and concern values, the coastline is now in hyper drive where deterioration/degradation factors can be taken into account, the economy is in a tremendous downturn, state budgets are looking at cuts in the up coming years, and still, these genius laureates of higher learning institutions in Louisiana are not smart enough to look at several hundred million dollars worth of aid being offered at www.strongconcrete.com . The facts Clarence are; A lot of the problems we are currently experiencing are the result of all these fart smellers,,,, er,,, uhhhh smart fellers that were hatched in institutions of higher learning standing at the helm of the sinking ship…… I know of one poll that would be interesting to see… Ask common people “If several hundred million dollars worth of aid directed towards coastal restoration, coastal erosion deferment for the state of Louisiana were available through www.strongconcrete.com would they advocate the state taking necessary steps to bring it into fruition?” Now that is a fairly simple poll there, doesn’t take no genius………….. So, I suppose in essence what I am saying is this Clarence “Until our institutions of higher learning, along with the Governor’s office of the State of Louisiana vigorously pursue such a topic, they are entitled to any and all wisecracks or rude remarks they are subjected to….” So don’t kill the messenger there Clarence, examine what the message is and who it is addressed to and for what reasons… That’s the smart position, no college needed…..

As a parent of a Louisiana college student, I am incensed that Kennedy would allow his Washington spokesperson to insult Louisiana students, teachers and universities. How ironic that Kennedy is insulting Washington when he insulates himself by it, was persuaded to run by it, has received substasntial money from it. I smell hypocrisy to the core. The only crack I smell is the crumbling of his own campaign. I agree. He absolutely should apologize if he wants to have any kind of future in Louisiana.

I am also of the opinion that the remark does not help Kennedy. How many people really care at this point, who knows. The very weak explanation of the farm bill stance was far more devestating to Kennedy. Very few farmers see his reasoning other than a L I E covering a political ploy with a fellow idiot (Coburn).

"""""""""But, whether Alcivar was sarcastic or not, the statement absolutely is insulting to the school, its students, its faculty and the Louisiana people............""""". I don't see any insult there Steve-O........ In fact the analogy actually fits those analy retentive enough to take offense at such a remark.... Those that take offense to being insulted, especially when there is a shadow of the truth, are usually the same folks that hold up all the processes and retard peoples advancement towards better understandings and conditions...... Now if it were a remark made without basis (the implied nuance was pretty good there Alcivar, I believe I made a similar observation when I wrote a piece about Mary Landrieu's ingnorance on a personal subject that involves the whole of the State of Louisiana, not just a select few) I would have to say he was out of line.... Ahhhh those little behind the scenes manipulators that work so hard to keep the common man down need to be beeyatch slapped everynow and then I would suppose... Sort of allows for a condition of clarity and understanding sometimes..... Perhaps if you were able to live another 5 or 6 lifetimes Steve-O, you might begin to understand....
