The founder and CEO of IGate, Vernon Jackson, said this morning in the William Jefferson trial in Virginia that he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to companies that were controlled by William Bill Jefferson’s family.
He also said that the payments were in exchange for Jefferson using his official position as Congressman to land iGate business in Africa.
The testimony would be key since the Jefferson defense is that he was not using his public position to engage in certain business dealings.Jackson has plead guity to pay bribe money.Defense attorneys normally utilize guilty pleas as a way of showing that prosecutors have given lenient sentences for information suggesting the testimony is false.
