New Orleans, LA – Republican Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao believes that Governor Bobby Jindal is on the wrong track in rejecting the opportunity to apply for stimulus money for the High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program, which application expires tonight at 12 midnight. The funding for the rail comes from the Recovery or stimulus package signed by President Obama and approved the Democratic-controlled Congress.
Today, Congressman Anh “Joseph” Cao (LA-2) will hold a press conference to challenge Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal to file the application under the Federal Rail Administration’s (FRA) High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail Program (HSIPR) to establish a passenger rail service between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
If awarded to the State, the proposed project, would provide the necessary funding to plan, design and construct an intercity rail connection between New Orleans, Louisiana and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Eventually, the rail corridor will connect Houston, TX, Mobile, AL and Atlanta, GA.
The project has strong support from major businesses, economic development entities, public authorities, and local government officials along the proposed rail corridor.

The reason why Bobby Boy isn't applying for this is because all of his buddies - buddies, and his buddies - buddies - buddies that are up to their moter foking necks in grants, rebuilding dollars, etc., etc., etc are busier than sh^t and can't take another project on and Bobby boy doesn't know who to turn to to get the work done..... "Bold vision" and "... an opportunity he must not pass up" - those thoughts by two who believe "progress" happens when government takes from one state and/or prints inflation-causing money and "gives it" to our state. How's this for a formula for "progress." People quit having children they cannot or will not care for WITHOUT relying on welfare, hold down a job and PAY taxes (instead of simply RECEIVING taxes) and then we can be a "success" WITHOUT the need for Federal dollars. _______________ Oh..... nevermind ... I give up. YES! We need any and every dollar Obama and the Federal Reserve's printing presses can provide us, that way we will be "grasping opportunity" with our "bold vision." Written by 2906H

Another short-sighted opinion of the Governor. He likes to "poor mouth". This is an opportunity he must not pass up! Representative Cao is on the money! Written by Cajun Tsunami

Bobby Jindal is on the wrong track when it comes to high speed rail and other matters. This state suffers from a lack of bold vision in state leadership. Written by David Quidd

Without terminal end points that reach broader market access, the high Baton Rouge-New Orleans high speed rail line will fail. It's a "make work" type of project. What we should be doing instead is applying for stimulus dollars to put superconducting electrical power transmission lines (I know many of you must be tiring of hearing me say this) in place to connect the Gulf Coast with the larger national power grid. This would bring a boom in the development of offshore wind power, which is already starting to develop since wind speeds are higher there than in the Great Plains and Near West, and spur the growth of an alternative energy industry that moves us away from fossil fuel dependence and creates jobs that will not need support from the public treasury, as will the high speed rail line. I would be perfectly happy to see stimulus dollars used in this way. The high speed rail line will be a fiscal albatross hanging around our necks in its current form. There just is no demand within our economy sufficient to sustain the high speed rail line if its two terminii are Baton Rouge and New Orleans. But if it reaches Texas and brings Houston and Dallas into the mix, then it's a whole different ball game. Written by Jacob Sulzbach, Lafayette, La.
