With the high cost of energy throughout the nation causing havoc to our economy, it is only natural to look to increased drilling for oil and other energy sources to reduce energy dependency from oil rich nations some who hate the United States..The political debate over drilling continues in the Presidential and other elections as it has become obvious that John McCain might have cancelled his trip to Louisiana due to an oil spill (and not bad weather) which is affecting commerce on the river, air and water quality.
Currently, gas prices hover around $4.00 per gallon.Today, Ford Motors Co. announced a 8.7 billion dollar loss and is shifting its own policy and vehicle types to accommodate for the high price of gasoline.Alternative energy is still very much on the drawing board and individuals are considering various ways they can conserve their own person use.
If the Mississippi spill has a silver lining for Louisiana, it underscores the importance of the state in protecting the wetlands and rebuilding New Orleans and other coastal locations as a vehicle to transport the flow of oil and gas to the rest of the nation.Recently, Governor Jindal cited a study that said the Louisiana coast was second to the IRS as a revenue source to the nation.Jindal was making the argument that Louisiana needed more time to repay the federal government the state’s cost share of the levee construction.
So, with the high price of oil, the alternative solutions more long term than short term, the risks of spills possible and other environmental casualties, there are many questions, such as:
1.How will the recent oil spill impact the national and Louisiana political debate(s)?
2.How important is Louisiana’s role in providing energy to the rest of the nation?
3.Will the recent spill in the Mississippihave any impact upon the perceived importance of Louisiana and New Orleans to the rest of the nation?
4.What are some of the lessons-learned from the spill given the rising costs of energy and other products?
Traffic management and boat operators must be done effectively. THIS IDIOCY IS TYPICAL LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, BULLSHIT WHERE IDIOTS ARE PUT IN A POSITION OF MAKING MAJOR MISTAKES. In a true explainable accident as super high currents or a storm is one thing, this is just stupid.
THIS MAKES US LOOK STUPID BECAUSE WE ARE STUPID. WE ELECT IDIOTS LIKE NAGIN WHO SAY, "DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH OF THAT OIL..........I MEAN WATER"
WE ELECT IDIOT CRIMINALS LIKE JEFFERSON WHO, ONLY ONLY ONLY IN LOUISIANA (OR MISS) MAY VERY WELL GET REELECTED.
Our police force problem is systemic and has been going on for years. It is exasperated by hiring black people who are thugs.........aka affirmative action.
What is the excuse of the mis managed river?

Sort of like that sorry example Mary Landrieu 'Discovering' the overlooked FEMA supplies sitting around in a warehouse somewhere that amounted to nothing more than shizzle, drizzle, flash, bangles and beads that she 'Demanded' to be distributed to the poor victims of Katrina what? 30 some odd months after the fact, and coincidentaly while flooding was occuring in our neighbors yards to the north of us who were in need as well....... We are one hell of a selfish, self centered, greed based state by all outward appearances and accounts it would seem..... Written by

And then still crying for 'more time to repay the 1.8 billion' How tacky.... How disgusting.... What's the Fed have to do, send some G-Men down here to crack a couple of kneecaps to get their money back? @ 6% compounding interest, 1.8 billion at the END OF thirty years leaves the government losing approximately 8.5 billion dollars in interest fees alone..... Or however it is they want to structure the interest fees and the associated losses incurred....... Where is the equity in that???????? Who does that 1.8 billion belong to? The U.S. taxpayer....... Why screw them around???? Oh, I know, we want to be 'forgiven' the debt, while we collect royalties in offshore waters that come from oil and gas extracted in Federal waters........... How Bourgouise that sounds! Written by

As far as this oil spill and 'wind fall' 'AMERICA OWES US' attitudes that are about to erupt or further contemplations, consider the reversal recently issued by the federal courts on the damage awards as a result of the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska...... Pursuing this and thinking it is of political importance is just another old burlap bag of farts when it comes time for consideration....... Written by

I am glad you resorted to fine print..... Makes the bullsh^t in the article, for all it is really worth harder to read...... And therefore not that glaring when it comes to misinformation and propaganda....... Anyways....... The largest contributor to the U.S. Treasury after the IRS is NOT the Louisiana Goof Coast...... It IS China............. In the form of Treasury Securities Notes................ Followed by other Treasury Securities Notes holders in additonal foreign lands such as; Japan, Arabia, European interests, etc., etc., etc... And after that comes the IRS..... and then comes interest sources gleaned from banks and not to forget funding through U.S. Department of Agriculture programs, And then of course comes social security contributions, and on and on and on the structuring goes....... Maybe, just maybe, Offshore oil and gas royalty revenues are somewhere between the Social Security Administration and the Foreing Treasury Securities Notes Holders, like maybe ehhhhh I don't know,..... Taiwan?...... Who cares and what is the point? You keep slamming that dead badger around until the fur is flying off it....... And as far as Louisiana is concerned, most of the Oil and Gas revenues currently generated for U.S. Treasury are not in State Waters, they are in Federal Waters, (In other words, Federal Waters i.e. the U.S. GOVERNMENT'S Territory and responsibility......) This statement is presented like some kind of holy grail to compound somekind of retarded notion that the U.S. Tax Payer 'OWES' Louisiana.............................. You need to get a little more domestic exposure and drop the boudian way of thinking........ Contibute, don't prohibit............. Nuff sed.................. Written by

What happened was a transportation accident in the Mississippi River, probably one of the most commercialized transportation arteries in the world. It had nothing to do with the "oil business" in LA, or the Coastal Zone, or rebuilding the Coast, etc. It was diesel fuel, a refined product, and just as easily could have been hydrochloric acid, or anything else. And no telling where this diesel came from, or where it was going. I wish the media would quit trying to read too much into this! Written by frustrated at media!
