According to the Rasmussen Reports, Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu “continues to hold onto a strong lead over Republican challenger John Kennedy in her bid for re-election. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds the incumbent ahead 54% to 41”.

Rasmussen says on its website that “This is the second straight month Landrieu has held a double-digit lead over her opponent, after she led by just five percentage points in July and a three points in May.

This month, Landrieu leads Kennedy 56% to 35% among unaffiliated voters. She also leads 52% to 44% among men and 56% to 38% among women in the state.”

According to Rasmussen Markets , its “data suggests that Landrieu has a 80.0% chance of winning re-election in November.”  Also, Rasmussen states that “Landrieu is viewed favorably by 61% of voters and unfavorably by 36%. Kennedy's ratings are 50% favorable, 39% unfavorable.”

Governor Bobby Jindal, who was formerly considered a VP choice for John McCain, earns good or excellent ratings from 77% of voters, while just 3% say he is doing a poor job.

Rasmussen says on its website that “This telephone survey of 500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports September 25, 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.”

Bayoubuzz Note:  While Rasmussen is stating that Landrieu has an 80 percent chance of winning re-election, Bayoubuzz reminds its readers that polls with over a month to go before election are only a snapshot in time.  The candidates are expected to debate this month.  Also, the poll does not reflect turnout from the Presidential election that could impact the ultimate results.

I like John K in the job he is doing now. I question his party jumping last year. Therefore I would not vote for him in any other capacity that he is in now. He should have sucked it up as a Democrat and went straight on at Landrieu in the primary. Either way he had to beat her.

The GOP seems to be running yet another turkey of a Senate candidate in the great tradition of David Duke, Woody Jenkins and Suzanne Haik-Terrell.
