TW, TW, TW. As an academic type I'm sure you understand the words "concept" & "principle" & "consistency." INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM.... to me... means... the government should not deny <any> freedom to individuals who are exercising same while harming no one. So I am "consistent" in supporting gay rights ("bedroom privacy" in other words), religious freedom, secular government, the right to self defense, being inebriated on your drug of choice - ALL OF THAT - as long as you do no harm to any one. I do not pick and choose the freedoms the left or right (or the rich or the poor; Jew/Gentile; American/European or whatever-the-hell-else) champion - no TeeDub I champion "FREEDOM" in its entirety. I am not advocating bad behavior with guns, drugs or sex (murder, impaired driving, rape) rather the freedom to live life in a responsible manner without having to be treated like a criminal when you have done no harm (really not that "difficult to grasp" - I wouldn’t think). Not only am I not ashamed of this belief but in fact I feel superior to those unfortunates who do not have the gray matter to grasp this obvious significant truth. So you’re not the only soul who can be arrogant Buddy. (I must admit, I DO like Zydeco better than drugs and guns, that WAS an accurate assessment). Written by kpf

OH WELL, THE ARTICLE I WAS GOING TO BUZZ BACK ON CONVENIENTLY WENT AWOL WHILE I WAS WRITTING THE FOLLOWING, INTERESTING, IT WAS THE ONLY ARTICLE TO GO AWRY.... SO I WILL POST THIS ON THIS ARTICLE FOR YOU STEVE..... YOU WERE RANTING IN THE OTHER ARTICLE SOMETHING ABOUT HOW I SHOULD START A RALLY OR SOMETHING,,,, WHATEVER........ SO HERE IS MY REPLY TO YOUR POST ON YOUR ARTICLE..................Well Steve, can’t extend any apologies about your ‘computer glitch’, glad to see you could fix the random Oingo-Boingo though………. Sort of considered it to be a bit odd, yet it was an interesting distraction……. Sort of like prompts on the screen……. And when posting, I consider cause, and effect as well as timing, seems the timing on those events you allude to like a child with its hand caught in a cookie jar were ‘striking’……. Not saying you did it Steve, but you supposedly do have a staff, and in the absence of any reader posts following an article, I do have to wonder sometimes who is really doing a lot of the posting there as well…… Ah, but you have reverse IP tracking software……… Well, so do I……. As with any rational person I consider the ‘circumstance’, then ‘the happenstance’, and ultimately ‘the what it is’ when it comes time for the decision rendering processes to become complete…… To spell it out so that you can keep up that is the 1, 2, …………3. of the situation…… I enjoyed your dissertation and accusations however you failed to address the crux of the post you seemingly want to jump on…. Which is…… [Nothing personal Steve, you and I have our differences where tactics and logical pursuits are concerned..... My question is; "What is the good of Louisiana you are purportedly pursuing and or advocating?"""""] Every good tactician has a goal, as well as a primary mission when a campaign is drawn up….. Now if your goal is to improve the ‘Trust’ of the people in the Government of Louisiana then this buzz board is nothing more than another government propaganda machine……. And if it is such, and the offers of aid posted on page 12 @ www.strongconcrete.com are still being overlooked, well, let me just say, in your own words sort of; that if the 5 million in Legislative pay raise was insignificant in comparison to a multi-billion dollar budget…… then why the fuss, and why the call to rally? Because what you are really saying is that a rally regarding over 5 million bucks in pay raises is more important than the citizenship of Louisiana having the opportunity to establish heightened atmospheric/hydrographic disaster protection at a minimum cost, and that they should be happy in continuing on shelling out tax dollars in return for inept planning and execution on the part of the State Government and its affiliated agencies……… And for Mr RRowley’s post….. Well, to find out the answer to your question may I suggest putting some overpriced gasoline in your vehicle, and driving around the country and ask them……… On the subject of me organizing some kind of rally regarding STRONGCONCRETE, well let me say that is a ludicrous suggestion at best…….. That would be closely akin to starting an Oral Hygiene Rally to try to convince people they should brush their teeth when they already know that is a logical thing to do…….. That is if that was what they were taught during their lifetime…… Shame of it is folks that brush their teeth are the ones that show up at the rally, and those that don’t,,,,, well those are the same folks whose teeth rot out and then they wish they had a second chance to do what’s right…… Myself, I have had plenty of offers, turned everyone of them down because I employed not only ‘ethics’ but morals in my decision making processes where any discussion concerning STRONGCONCRETE was embarked upon by the State of Louisiana, or any of its affiliated agencies or associated personalities in order to insure that the Common People of the State of Louisiana got the biggest bang for its buck, or in other words, the best value for its tax dollar expenditures… It is called being a good steward, and that is what I am, in stewardship of a benefit for the State of Louisiana…. No, I am not going to stand on a street corner with a sign slung around my neck saying ‘THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!!!!” even though for some it was seemingly so, that is called employing fear tactics which are counterproductive, and conversely neither am I going to stand on a street corner with a sign slung around my neck that says; “KICK ME IN THE BAWLz FOR 5 BUCKS”……. If the leaders in the position of mission implementation directed towards a goal as well as the authority to cause plans into fruition that will heighten the security of Louisiana and its citizenry do not have the common sense to get on with STRONGCONCRETE approaches, well then, again Mr RRowley, you have again answered your question for yourself, because in the roundabout words of Pi last night while he was on the local news station, ‘Time is a precious commodity which shouldn’t be wasted”….. So Steve, again……. The question…. "What is the good of Louisiana you are purportedly pursuing and or advocating?" Written by ...............STRONGCONCRETE.....................

Ol' tee dubya cleared that up, and although he's proud of the fact that he's not a state employee, I'm more proud of that than he is. I think he should further pledge to decline to participate in any projects or programs that are funded with any state or federal tax dollars. Then he might really have legitimate justification to tell us where to get off. But I fear that if his department weaned itself from the public teat, that it would be welfare money going to T instead of our university-laundered tax dollars. Written by

The prerequisite to understanding this letter is to have encountered some of Mr. T Dubya's obloquies and to have realized how soporific they are. In the text that follows, I won't bother discussing the flaws in T's logic because he indeed doesn't use any logic. We can divide T's zingers into three categories: insincere, fatuous, and cuckoo.
I have this advice to offer: The world has changed, T; get used to it. Should you think I'm saying too much, please note that when you tell T's protégés that T's detractors are correct in their observation that pretending to be a victim is T's malicious attempt to adopt approaches that have not been tested to try to solve problems that have not been well-defined, they begin to get fidgety and their eyes begin to wander. They really don't care. They have no interest in hearing that he seeks scapegoats for his own shortcomings by blaming the easiest target he can find, that is, slatternly twerps.
If I could ask T one thing, I'd ask him why he thinks the media should "create" news rather than report it. The problem is that T shrinks from such questions like a vampire shrinks from a crucifix. You'd be more likely to get T to admit that he truly believes that freedom must be abolished in order for people to be more secure and comfortable. I hope you realize that that's just an appalling pipe dream from a brutish pipe and that in the real world, T lacks the courage to confront me face-to-face. But there's the rub; we mustn't be content to patch and darn, to piece and cobble at the worn and rotten fabric of T's heinous, vapid shell games. Instead we must put the kibosh on his recommendations. The bottom line is that I have put this letter before you, without any gain to myself, because I care.

As I have said countless times, I do not work for the state, and last year, I made less than $60k, so please don't call me a "fat cat". There are bellhops in Vegas who make more money per year than I do. So working people need to stop listening to the rich and powerful, wherein the true power in this country lies. They control the mainstream media and they are constantly telling working people that the intelligentsia is the enemy, that we're out of touch, and that we don't understand mainstream America. But when it comes to making ends meet from month to month on a limited amount of money, we're a whole lot more in touch with mainstream America than any g.d. CEO or corporate bigwig, I'll tell you that. And as for my posts, I know I'm condescending; I've never denied it. I know I'm pompous; I've never denied it. Can't you just accept that? I accept that "Ellipsis Man" is a borderline schizophrenic, that "RhettsWife" is a bit of an anachronism, that "kpf" like guns and dope almost as much as he loves zydeco dancing, that "Kelly Haggar" loves to talk about listric faults, and that the "Professor" cannot fathom why anyone wouldn't love to spend a weekend with the governor. But I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an example of doublespeak in my posts. They may look like rants to you, but they have a consistent internal logical structure. A couple of quick points, and then I'll run: 1) I didn't bring up the platypus; someone else did. I was merely responding to a question about it. My response was bit long-winded, yes, (as I acknowledged in the post itself), but irrelevant? Well that's in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? The beauty of this forum is that things can take off in all sorts of directions. 2) How could you not know that this is an anti-intellectual country? This country is PROUD of its anti-intellectualism. We have a President who went to Yale and Harvard who acts like a buffoon, for goodness' sake. And how are academics portrayed in the media? We're either villains or hopeless nerds. When I am in Europe I cannot believe the respect I am accorded because I am a Professor - it's a completely different world over there. I sure don't get that here, laisse-mon te dire. TW Written by Tee Dub

T, T, T -- Amazing how someone can write a treatise on the platypus in a political blog and condemn anyone else who thinks the post was pompous irrelevance as an anti-intellectual, "don't give me that book-learning", dropout. Intelligence is a very valuable gift, and is in far too little abundance in this state. But intellectualism is not intelligence, and is not even a poor substitute for it. I seem to recall rare moments of intelligence portrayed in Tee Dub's rantings. But I can always count on his condescending academic doublespeak. Our academic community is running a strong second to our legislators when it comes to pleas for additional funding to keep them from the soup kitchens. Now that we've finally spoken up (if only in one battle) to our legislators, Louisianians need to start asking tough questions about what we get for our higher education dollars. See how many professors cry for public funding, and live in the same neighborhoods as those fat cat legislators. Written by

Where to begin..... the noise you hear from the talibaptist is nothing to be concerned about as progressive (i.e. non-Islamic) governments are becoming more secular and will continue to do so despite all the noise. Gun control cost the Democratic Party the house majority they held for 40 years in '94 and the presidency in 2000. It would be an understatement to say this issue has not helped them hold elected offices. I wished we lived in a world where everyone loved one another - we do not - I want to keep my BEST MEANS OF SELF-DEFENSE and welcome every defeat gun control proponents suffer (don't really give a s#it which party it is that suffers for supporting gun control - but since the Dems want to champion this...). My priorities are my family, community and my job. My opinions and my "priorities" are two different things Mr. Teedubya. Libertarians are people who are - HELLO ISN'T IT OBVIOUS YET? - justifibly distrustful of those who hold elective office and recognize that many tax and spend programs are thief by legislative dictate. I'm not quite sure what you meant by the platypus remark? Are you being tongue-in-cheek, i.e., what intelligent designer would come up with THAT design? Or are you laboring under the 19th-century misconception that the platypus is built with some mammalian parts, and some avian parts? Here's the thing - under an ID scenario, there is no reason to assume that genetic differences between taxa will be arranged hierarchically, and yet they are. In contrast, descent with modification predicts just such a pattern, and that pattern is absolutely ubiquitous in nature. Here's the rub - I would argue that if you think the platypus is made with a little bit of bird, and a little bit of mammal, etc., that in terms of its genetic makeup it should cluster apart from the other mammals, perhaps clustering with birds - or maybe it would be found at the half-way point between birds and mammals in terms of its overall genetic similarity/dissimilarity. This is not the case. The fact is that while the monotremes (egg-laying mammals) are an outgroup to both the marsupials and the Eutherian (placental) mammals, in terms of genetic similarity, they do not cluster at all with birds, but rather, the two monotreme groups (i.e., the echidnas, or spiny anteaters [which have no bird-like body parts] and the platypus) cluster with each other, and are then joined closely to the branch of the tree of life that contains all other mammals (cf., Figure 1 in http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/99/12/8151. Probably more information than you wanted, but I can't help myself sometimes. You misspelled "intelligent", btw. TW Written by Tee Dub

Jindal thinks Louisiana people are to stupid to do a recall and that his team will be able to side track the recall by fooling the voters once more. Look for many reasons as to why you should not bother recalling Jindal. They will not tell you
why Jindal choose to turn his back on the people who voted him into office. Written by Diaperman

Here's one for you to debate .. An elderly native Louisiana citizen dies and shows up at the pearly gates. St. Peter looks over his life history... hmm, so you're from that pitiful state that squandered everything America had to offer and placed last in everything good... your state elected Edwards, Nagin, Jefferson, Alario, Thompson, Blanco, etc. etc. .. St. Peter said, " I don't think we can let you in with that kind of track record in your mortal life. Looks like you'll have to go to hell." Old Boudreaux replies, "Well, at least that's some improvement." -- Moral to the story, recall petitions are a good start, but the best place to put your signature is on the sale of your house as you move your family to another state. As I sit back and read what the delusional masses post on this website I have but one question; Well, actually two questions.......... Ehhh,,, why not bore the pizz out of you and allow you to really focus on the subject for a change, I am going to ask several questions........ If, (and it is doubtful) Pi is recalled, then WHO is going to be the Governor? Landrieu? Nobody voted him for Governor.... How about the second runner up in the election? Walter Boasso?????? Or do we get rid of Landrieu also, have Boasso for Guv, and Georges for Lt. Guv.??????? Surely you geniuses out there don't believe that this wasn't a manipulated affair from day one do you????? I already knew Pi was insipid at best as did many other folks….. Oh! BUT HE’S A ROCK STAR!!!!!!! The media just had to go on and on and on……………. So really, who had the leveraging power to compliment any manipulations that may or may not be going on????? HEY, KEEP THEIR FACES IN THE SPOTLIGHT, IT EQUALS ADVERTISING DOLLARS!!!!!!! What if Pi - Boy were to Veto tomorrow?????? 180 days before a recall petition can be called for again… I guess…. So tell us Bayou Buzz staff, how about the whole story………………………. You know, let your poor uninformed leaders know what happens………. Uh,,,,,, possible consequences, probable scenarios….. That’s called freedom of choice, giving folks the whole story….. Right now folks are only focused on the left shoe, and that before it even hits the floor…. They don’t even know about the right shoe that is about to be forcefully lodged in their collective anal orifices….. Written by ..Are you reeling in the years,,,.................

Hey Professor, Nevers' bill is full of "code speak" for "alternatives" to current evolutionary theory. As a Ph.D. biological scientist, I can assure you that there are no scientific "alternatives" to current evolutionary theory, just as there are no viable "flat-Earth" geological theories or "geocentric" astronomical theories. The people who are behind Nevers' bill are the Discovery Institute, out of Seattle, a pro-Intelligent Design (ID) think tank. "Intelligent Design" is not a science in that it seeks supernatural explanations for natural phenomena. There may be a supernatural (who am I to say there isn't?), but it is beyond the realm of science. How does one test a supernatural explanation? In order to be science, it HAS to be testable. It has to generate testable hypotheses. As a result of this constraint, science is limited to seeking natural explanations for natural phenomena, period. ID basically says "God did it." Not science. In the Dover, PA, case, the plaintiffs' lawyers got one of ID's "star" witnesses (I think it was Michael Behe) to admit that under his "big-tent" definition of science, astrology would have to be a science. And Professor, if you don't think school boards up in North Louisiana are chomping at the bit to introduce this ID pap into our public schools, then you are extremely naïve. Nevers even gave a radio interview in which he said his bill's purpose was to allow teachers to introduce "scientific creationism" into the science curriculum. I'm sure his Seattle handlers had a conniption over that little slip, because he was back-pedaling like nobody's business once that interview was out. So Nevers is being dishonest (imagine that - a member of the Louisiana Legislature being dishonest! Say it ain't so!) about the real intent of his bill. Someone please remind me of the New Testament scriptures in which Christ used deception to get something accomplished? I've spent a lot of time in Sunday School, but that little nugget must have slipped by me. TW Written by Tee Dub

The governor of Louisiana has more power than most of the governors in other states. Bobby (snake charming) Jindal was always a Politician. Just look at the jobs that he has held. I don't think he has worked a hard day in his life. He is the wealthy persons puppet trying to become the president. This is not about rep. or demos. He promised reform, and isn't going to rock the boat, Or all of his snakes might fall out, then there won't be any one to charm. Check past history and you will find there was another young congressman that promised reform in 1972. I shouldn't have to name the governor, because he was almost as good a snake charmer as bobby jindal. Check the political adds that were run in local papers in 1972 in the governors race. Ryan and Kourtney Fournier, residents of Jefferson parish, near New Orleans have taken the step to recall Pi. Now the soothsayers are predicting that the magic number will not be met. We say, let the citizens make the decision. We await instructions about where to sign and who will be distributing the petition. We also wait for the recall petition of our representative. Now someone better start the move on Senator Duplicity. The rage of citizens has come this far, may it continue so that this state will be led by honest, trustworthy, and just men and women and not those full of themselves and their alleged genius status.

My only issue with Bobby is his healthcare damage he did under Mike Foster, where I had personally lost a lot of services and now cannot afford such, so therefore have none at all. He wrecked a whole healthcare system that has been working since Huey Long, Jesse Bankston, Winbourne Davis, and Gov. Davis, all wiped out. Nearly wiped out the whole East Feliciana Parish and the poorer parishes who enjoyed a good healthcare system. New Orleans was wrecked long before Katrina in this area.
There is hardly any healthcare system for the poor nowadays in Tangipahoa, Livingston, St. Tammany all the northshore, Orleans, etc.
As a conservative I always believed in cutting the fat, but not the lean meat for those who truly need it.

If the legislators weren't so uppity and would be more down to earth and serve the people better I would not have fought the payraise. Since they passed a bill prohibiting cellphone use while driving, same. Since they passed this bill and want to overregulate us out of business and lifestyle, then I had to turn around and fight the payraise. They do not deserve it. If not busy will try to be there on the Steps if I am not working. Written by Louisiana Sunshine

Anti-Evolution? What part of Sen. Nevers' bill was "anti-evolution"? Just because something would allow Theories B and C to be taught doesn't mean that Theory A can't be taught. Don't mistake me - I'm about as "scientific-minded" as a person can be and still believe in God. But, I learned about various theologic theories in school. They were great lessons, even though I need scientific proof to believe in most things. Written by Professor
