During a web video previewing the SEC game of the week, CBS Sports analyst Spencer Tillman said he expected second-ranked LSU to rout No. 12 South Carolina. I agree with Tillman if the weather holds up.
"This is not Georgia," said Tillman. "I think LSU will win by at least four touchdowns"
A sportswriter told Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier of Tillman's prediction. "I don't blame him, the way we've looked," the coach said of the analyst.
But four touchdowns?
"It could be seven," said Spurrier. "But we'll be ready to play. It's not a hard pick."
Saturday's weather forecast for Baton Rouge calls for anything from sun to thunderstorms. If it's the latter, Spurrier has already seen it at Tiger Stadium. As a quarterback at Florida, Spurrier was 3-0 against LSU. but his first game against the Tigers had to be pushed back to the end of the season because of Hurricane Hilda.
Spurrier has been heaping praise on the Tigers and Nick Saban all week rather than Tigers coach Les Miles.
"LSU, I don't need to sit here and tell you how good a team they are," said Spurrier at his weekly press conference in Columbia, S.C. Everybody has said that. Their recruiting has been outstanding over the last four or five years. Any time your recruiting is ranked in the top 5 in the country, which I know Nick Saban's last three years there they were like 1, 2 and 2 in most of the polls in recruiting. So those players are now in their third, fourth year, something like that."
