East Baton Rouge Parish district attorney Doug Moreau, an analyst of LSU football broadcasts, has officially applied for the Tigers' athletic director job.

Moreau, a former LSU football star who played for the Miami Dolphins, was a finalist for the job in 2001 before outgoing AD Skip Bertman was chosen.

"LSU's been a big part of my life, and I didn't want the opportunity to pass by," said Moreau. His father, Al, was coach of the LSU track team for years.

Moreau's DA's term expires at the end of 2008, said he was asked to apply by the LSU-hired search firm, Parker Executive Search of Atlanta.

LSU's AD search committee plans to meet on Monday to determine the final three to five applicants who will be invited to the campus for interviews, said committee chairman Jack Weiss.

The plains to have a selection by April 25, when the LSU Board of Supervisors hopes to choose the next athletic director.

Bertman is will continue as AD through June, when he will become athletic director emeritus to assist with fundraising and special projects for another year.

The AD applicants currently employed at colleges are Florida Atlantic AD Craig Angelos and Florida executive associate AD Greg McGarity.

The internal candidates are three LSU senior associates under Bertman" Verge Ausberry, Mark Ewing and Herb Vincent.

Moreau was seen as the top choice by several members of the LSU Board of Supervisors in 2001, but former Chancellor Mark Emmert reportedly favored former Oregon State AD Mitch Barhart. Bertman was ultimately chosen as the compromise..

Moreau originally planned to retire as DA in January, but he said his plans changed after his interim replacement, John Sinquefield, opted instead to become attorney general Buddy Caldwell's top assistant.

"I didn't want to leave the staff in a lurch," said Moreau.

Meanwhile, with a two-week break behind them, LSU's football players and coaches went back to work on Wednesday and began fine-tuning for the spring game on April 5.

The No. 1 question mark is whether suspended quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will be back at any time this spring. He recently moved back onto campus from an off-campus apartment.

Redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee and junior Andrew Hatch are continuing to take snaps with the first team.

VOODOO SIGN KICKER, DEFENSIVE LINEMAN

The VooDoo have signed former LSU/Nicholls State kicker Alex Romero and defensive lineman Kevin Carberry to their active roster. The team also waived wide receiver/defensive back B.J. Barre, offensive lineman Konrad Dean and kicker Jonathan Ruffin.

Romero, 5-9, 180, prepped at Hahville High and played at LSU and Nicholls State. He was a member of the Tigers' 2003 national championship team before transfering to Nicholls State. He comverted on 23 of 40 field goal attempts for Nicholls State and kicked 7 of 10 in 2006.

Carberry, 6-4, 280, Ohio University, comes to the VooDoo from the New York Dragons. He recorded 13.5 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 2 sacks. After going to training camp with with the Browns, he spent part of the 2005 season on the practice squad of the Lions.

The first-place Voodoo return to action on Sunday when they play the Colorado Crush in Denver at 3 p.m. The game will not be seen on TV here.

Perrilloux

LSU football coach Les Miles has lifted the suspension on quarterback Ryan Perriloux.

However, he has not had his playing and practicing privileges restored. The coach said the quarterback was expected a some point during spring football, which will end on April 5 with the spring game.

Perrilloux was suspended for missing teams meetings and classes. Miles said Perrilloux has "straightened out his act"and moved back on campus from an offcampus apartment.
