It was one of those games that leaves you shaking your head, Or maybe uttering words like Georgia coach Mark Richt's first two at the his post-game news conference: "Goodness gracious."
George walloped LSU on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium 52-38, and while the Bulldogs' win wasn't that shocking, the score and details boggled the mind.
That score means the Bulldogs, who meet Florida next week in Jacksonville in "The World's Greatest Outdoor Cocktail Party, scored more points against the defending national champions than they had in any other SEC game this season. And, more than they had scored against Georgia Southern
"The story is the mistakes," said Tigers coach Les Miles, who is trying to beat an above team with two inexperienced quarterbacks. "You can't make mistakes. When you a quality opponent, you cannot give them turnovers. You can't uncover people in coverage. You can't let runs that should be tackled go untackled. Our football team has to learn that. That's my job. I promise you I will go about teaching it. Guys have bad days, Those bad days can't sink the team. You can have bad days and still give your team a chance to win. I told out team that we played a very quality team today, and we never pressured them. The first play from scrimmage we gave them seven points. We come back and get our seven, and surely, we would have liked to have taken a lead and see how they played from behind. If you makes mistakes, that benefit of home field and that benefit of pressuring the opponent doesn't happen."

On the Tigers' first snap, Bulldogs linebacker Darryl Gamble read quarterback Jarrett Lee's eyes, cut in front of receiver Brandon LaFell, intercepted the pass and returned it 40 yards to the end zone to put the Bulldogs ahead just 20 seconds into the game.
"That was a young quarterback looking at the receiver and everybody knew where he was going to throw it," said Miles. "We're having growing pains with our quarterbacks.
"We're a talented team that makes mistakes. This team doesn't know how good we are"
Florida and Georgia know as well as the thousands of fans who left the game early to beat the traffic.
Gamble, who started the Georgia scoring, ended it. With just three minutes to play, he intercepted his second pass of the game and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown.
That 52 points the Tigers gave up was more than any LSU opponent had scored in Tiger Stadium in 15 years. Go figure.
Lee tossed three touchdown passes, but also gave up 17 points on three interceptions.
LSU (5-2, 3-2 SEC), playing at home for the first time in nearly a month, fell behind early and couldn't recover. Georgia *7-1, 4-1 SEC) was one step ahead of the Tigers throughout the afternoon, getting a big plays whenever LSU got within a touchdown or two.
The crowd of 92,904 was the second largest in Tiger Stadium history, six fans short of the record.
Lee finished 14-of-28 passing for 287 yards. Receivers Demetrius Byrd and LaFell each had 62 yards receiving. LaFell had two touchdowns and Byrd has the third.
Tigers running back Charles Scott bullied the Georgia defense for 144 yards and two touchdowns while Keiland Williams added 30 yards rushing along with two catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.
The Bulldogs' final act of a giddy day was to dance in the end zone. But they waited until the final horn had sounded and the refs had departed,
"Just spontaneous," said running back Knowshon Moreno, the led dancer. "Just having fun." Moreno ran 21 times for 183 yards, including a stirring 68-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Matthew Stafford, the best passing quarterback in the SEC, completed 17-of26 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns.
Stafford, on his team scoring 52 points: " We go into every game trying to score every time we get the ball. That's our thought process and what we work towards, and we were able to move the ball well on LSU. We got some big plays when we needed them, Moreno has some good runs for us and some guys made some good plays for us catching the football and that's what got us going."
Moreno made a cell phone gesture to the Bulldogs student section after a touchdown. "It was nothing,: said Moreno. " I was just having fun. It was more about celebrating with my teammates more than anything."
Tigers placekicker Colt David shattered the LSU all-time career scoring mark with a 51-yard field goal. David broke former All-American Ken Faulk's old mark of 318 points With David's eight points on Saturday, he stands at 324 for his career (46 FGs, 180 PATs, 1 TD).
Scott, on the game: "It was a real tough day. When you play good offense and good defense just sometimes it doesn't work out. That's what happens when you play a great team. We weren't consistent enough to take over the game when we had a chance.
"The season is not over for us, We are going to put it behind us. It will be hard, but we are a good team and we'll learn from our mistakes."
Sounds like the same comments made after the loss to Florida.
The Tigers, who have given up 103 points in their past two games, host Tulane next Saturday.
