Peyton Manning will star again on March 24 when he celebrates his 31st birthday anniversary as host of NBC;s Saturday Night Live.
The former Newman star of New Orleans and the Super Bowl's MVP will moves beyond his many commercials to do the program. "I figure this is my one shot to be asked," said the quarterback. "I'm sort of looking forward to it, but I'm a little bit nervous."
But not as nervous as he was when he had do a tango in an eighth-grade play at Newman, which was shown on network television the week leading into the Super Bowl.
Other NFL quarterbacks turned SNL hosts are Fran Tarkington in 1977, Joe Montana in 1987 and Tom "Pappa" Brady in 2005.
Manning has most famously poked fun at himself in an ad for cell-phone company Sprint Nextel Corp., where he dons a fake mustache and toupee to disguise" himself while rooting for the Colts. In a MasterCard commercial, Manning posed as a "fan of the fan," cheering on workers at a grocery storer and coffee shop.
I am from N.O. and while I don't personally know the Mannings I do know that they are respected in our city. I love Peyton"s commercials and look forward to him hosting SNL. Again, he will make the Colts organization and the city of New Orleans proud, also those of us who has relocated because of hurricane Katrina.BREAK A LEG PEYTON !!!! (not literally)
