Darling friends,

Happy Valentine's Day and Carnival Season 2007!

My favorite weekend in the Carnival Season was exquisite. We were blessed with glorious weather that
allowed us to parade ourselves like peacocks--showing all our feathers.

At this year's Krewe of Cork Parade, I got my dosage of libations to last for a year--well, maybe just for the weekend.. I started at the Queen's breakfast hosted by 2007 Queen Gilliam Pierce at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. From there we went to Krewe of Cork's delicious Luncheon at the Court of Two Sisters. At 2 p.m. My darling Dog Tito, in his own tiny float as the Royal Pooch, strolled along with the sparkling parading members and the King and Queen, the Royal Court and the very important Wine Police who kept our special wine glasses full to the brim. The parade, full of colorful costumed revelers, was so much fun.  That evening, all I remember was that I left a very exciting rocking party to get dressed and go to the Krewe of Barkus Ball at the Windsor Court. It was 10:30 p.m. when I realized that I fell sleep and missed the ball. C'est la Vie!

On Saturday, I got to see the parade of the Krewe of Shangri-la and attended their ball afterward. Traffic was a nightmare! Fortunately, I managed to get there on time. On Sunday, Duke Tito and his faithful companions Isabella and Camille sniffed their way through the Vieux Carre in their elegant float decorated by my friend Janelle Crescioni and pushed by Dean Shapiro. The 2007 Krewe of Barkus's theme was "A Street Dog Named Desire."

. Make sure you see my photoshow,As always, it was a  lot of fun, and the thousands of people out on the streets enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

I ended my weekend by attending the Krewe of Satyricon Ball. My darling friend Tony Leggio of Mardi Gras Productions reigned as this year's king. The ball and the costumes were divine.

I need to congratulate my darling friend Irma Thomas for winning her very deserving, first Grammy. "After the Rain" won Best Contemporary Blues Album of 2007.

I am also happy to announce that Noche Latina on Sunday with Julio and Cesar Band will return this Sunday, February 18, at 6 p.m. at Tomatillo Restaurant, 437 Esplanade Ave. (across the street from the fire station and the Mint) Hope to see you there!

I am looking forward to this week coming because, on St Valentine's Day, one of my favorite krewes will be presenting its King and Queen at the historic Cabildo. The Krewe of Libris will present King Libris II and Queen Thalia II at a fabulous Ball. The identities of the monarchs will be revealed at the ball. Just a tiny hint, however: the King loves tartans and is in union with English speakers and the Queen has a Spanish accent and loves champagne and calls everybody darling.  Their Crown Prince has an affinity for Spain and Latin America and is fluent in the language of the Queen. I sure you do not want to miss it. For more information and reservation contact: 504-586-1609 or FaulkHouse@aol.com .

For parade lovers, for the second time in recorded history, The Krewe of Screwe is sponsoring a Valentine Parade. The Public is invited to assemble at Bacchanal at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14. Costumes are encouraged, particularly those with a "screw" theme, i.e. corkscrew, screw-cap, screwball, etc. King Chris Rudge and Queen Mimi Dykes will both be attired in corks 'n' corkscrews. The parade begins at Bacchanal at 3:15 p.m. and will terminate (eventually) at Mimi's in the Marigny. Live music by: Martin Krusche & Magnetic Ear (leading the parade); Broken Smokes (on a float); Three Legged Dog (on a float); Morning 40 Federation (on a float) and Soul Rebels (6 p.m. at Elizabeth's, with the Krewe of 6t'9). Not to be missed!

On Tuesday, February 13, Mardi Gras historian Errol Laborde will be reading and autographing his latest book: "Krewe: The Early Carnival From Comus to Zulu" from 6-8 p.m. at Octavia Books, 513 Octavia Street. Errol Laborde focuses on the first 60 years of the Carnival. Along the way, he discovers fascinating characters: a poetic journalist who survives a bloody attack, an archduke looking for fun and a would-be king finding religion. Laborde disproves some of the conventional wisdom about Carnival's early history. Krewe Includes illustrations by George Schmidt and Arthur Nead along with archival images from The Historic New Orleans Collection. To reserve a signed copy call 504-899-READ. . The same night Times Picayune's columnist England-born James Gill, will be presenting a lecture titled " Mardi Gras and the Confederate Legacy" as part of the History of New Orleans Lecture Series at the Earl K. Long Library at UNO. The lecture is free to the public and will be from 6 to 7:15 p.m.

On Sunday, at Mother- in-Law Lounge, there will be a big bash in honor of Ernie K-Doe's 70th Birthday Celebration. Music will be by Jo "Cool" Davis; Cordell Chamblis; Al "Carnival" Johnson and the First Street United Methodist Choir.

Lundi Gras Celebration at Spanish Plaza at the Riverwalk is always a fun event. The entertainment will include music by Beatin' Path; Rockin' Dopsie Jr & the Zydeco Twisters, Wanda Rouzan and a Taste of New Orleans. Rex, King of Carnival, arrives at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks. 3-7:30 p.m.

Darlings, as you know this is parade time so check out my Mardi Gras schedule and enjoy  a healthy, joyful Carnival Season. Happy Mardi Gras.!
