The New Orleans Congressman who by his one vote last week made a "totally partisan" health care bill into a "totally-partisan minus one" bill, has made a bit hit on the talk show circuits, in the news and now in Minnnesota and now as an "Internet ditty"-- courtesy of one Jeff Horwich who hosts the Minnesota Public Radio program "The Loop".
Many are wondering why the Republican Joseph Cao voted with the Democrats and President Obama on the controversial health care bill last Saturday. Was it for re-election?, Doing what his district wants? Doing what he thought was right? Only the Congressman knows for sure.
One columnist, conservative Jeff Crouere writing for Bayoubuzz has suggested that Cao should be a Democrat. Not surprisingly, there is even some real talk about Cao being opposed by a Republican for his Congressional seat.
So, is Joseph Cao a hero, or a vilain or somewhere in the middle? For some insight, find out for yourself from the terrific and catch "Ballad" written and performed by the very talented Horwich. Cao's vote might be the song of horrors for him politically, or it might gain him some respect in unusual quarters. Yet, what is most unusual is that a first-year Congressman can make such a "hit" nationally and in the minds and voices of those thousands of miles away. We will know if the theme of Horwich's ballad helps Cao ultimately has an impact on the Congressman's upcoming Congressional election, or upon his future political career.
I hope he will be re-elected and I think we will see republicans and democrats vote for him. Republicans and democrats both voted for ray nagin so why would they not vote for Cao. Then again we always vote for the worst leaders so maybe you are right about him only serving one term. Written by Cry over this

Of course the irony of it is that regardless of how he voted, he will be a one term Congressman for that district. Written by jackamo

I am glad to see a Louisiana politician being portrayed in a good light , but I can see where that would upset the other Louisiana politician's. I guess republicans would rather he sell his district out instead of representing them. Written by Cry over this

Jeff Crouere is always wrong when it comes to giving advice.......especially to All Democrats and now we know that he gives it to Republicans whose vote cannot be controlled by Radical Right Wingers and the likes of Jeff.
As a yellow dog Democrat, I want Rep. Cao to stay a registered Republican; aggravate the Hell out of his Republican radicals, and continue voting for what is in the best interest of his constituents. I speak French and Spanish, and when his re-election comes around, I plan to contribute financially to his campaign and to cut an ad in Cajun and/or Parisian French, and Spanish for him. And I will do it as a Democrat!
He has frequently voted with Melancon against the other 4 Republican Congressmen who never vote differently from each other. This was not at all his first Democratic vote. He is to be commended, and deserves the "political purple heart
medal"! And Jeff, he will get at least 40 per cent of the Republican vote in his area. I doubt that the Democrats need to run someone against him. He's the Democrat's Dream Republican. How sweet it is!
