Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Darling friends,

Post your events on our Bayoubuzz calendar and see what other events are occuring.  The calendar receives approximately one thousand visitors per day.

Spring is in the air and it felt heavenly during Saturday's St. Patrick's Day Parade and on St. Patrick's Day. I enjoyed very much donning my green chapeau and taking my darling dog Tito and my beau to the Irish Channel parade. It was a lot of fun.

On Monday, I had the honor of eating cabbage and corned beef (which was added by the  Irish to their celebration in NYC not in Ireland)  at Brennan's Restaurant, followed by a lovely visit to the exquisite Houmas House and Plantation in Burnside. As always Kevin Kelly's hospitality was outstanding, and Chef Jeremy Langlois' creative cuisine of Lantil's Landing  was delicious.
In case you have not been to Houmas House, the crown jewel of  Louisiana's River Road Plantations, I urge you to visit it, since personally, I think this is the most beautiful time to visit when the azaleas and all the delicate, colorful  flowers are blooming. I am always amazed at all the new additions to the gardens. Not to be missed. Visit http://www.houmashouse.com/

Once again you will be able to experience an evening of  cultural indulgences at the lobby of  J.W. Marriott Hotel  on Canal Street, when talented Belgian-born artist, Sebastien Lemaire, exhibits his art and the music is provided by Brazilian-born guitarist Riccardo Crespo. Complimentary wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres between 5:30 and 8 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 19, Save Our Cemeteries is presenting their Public Lecture Series: "Around the Track" at 6 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd.  "Around the Track", the lecture on the history of the beautiful Metairie Cemetery, will be presented by Gerald L. Schoen III, Community Outreach Director of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries. The lecture is free to SOC members and $5 is the suggested contribution for non-members. Following the lecture, SOC invites all to join them at 7:30 p.m. for dinner at Ralph’s on the Park, 900 City Park Avenue.  Reservations are required for dinner. Dinner: $50 per person (including tax & tip). Call SOC office at 504-525-3377 or log on to http://www.saveourcemeteries.org/ .

Women and Wine will be meting this Wednesday, March 19, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Le Citron Bistro, 1539 Religious Street. 566-9051.

Join the East Bank Regional Library on Wednesday, March 19, 7 p.m., as essayist, former film producer, and Louisianian Cindy Guidry, transplanted from LA to L.A. (she grew up in Metairie), discusses her acerbic and astute collection of essays, THE LAST SINGLE WOMAN IN AMERICA, in which she discusses everything from Internet dating to the theory that men are the new women to the "Hollow Chocolate Bunny Syndrome" (the empty ambition that drives many in Hollywood).

My monthly Round Table Luncheon will be this Thursday, March 20 at noon at Begue's in the Royal Sonesta Hotel . I am really excited about our invited speakers: Dr. Kenneth Holditch, an expert on both the city of New Orleans and Tennessee Williams and a representative of the Tennessee Williams Festival; Marci Schramm, Director of the French Quarter Festival ; and Trixie Minx, Artistic Director of Fleur de Tease who will be performing the "Fan Dance" as part of the  upcoming "Behind the Velvet Curtain: Ladies of Burlesque Revealed," a free event at the Cabildo on Jackson Square, 7-10 p.m. on Friday, March 28. I know that you will not want to this exciting luncheon. Luncheon is $35 all inclusive in addition to wine and complimentary parking. For reservations call Noel Scallan at 504-553-2220 or email nscallan@royalsonestano.com .

Legendary pianist Ronnie Kole will be performing at 9 p.m. on Thursday night, March 20, at the Mystick Den of the Royal Sonesta Hotel. Since becoming a citizen of New Orleans, Ronnie has been a member of the board of directors of The Easter Seal Society of Louisiana since 1972, and its President on four separate occasions.

On Thursday, March 20, 5 p.m. at the Garden District Book Shop, 2727 Prytania Street, Christopher Rice will be signing and discussing his book Blind Fall.

 Tel: 504.895.2266

On Thursday, David Cramer, a specialist in stress management and trauma with  La Spirit Stress Managment, will be giving a very special free session "an introduction to crisis counseling" from 5-6 p.m., Thursday, March 27. The session will be at the Alvar Library, 913 Alvar Street (between Burgundy and N. Rampart in Bywater off St. Claude, across street from Frederick Douglass School).

The Obituary Cocktail Society will meet  this Friday as always from 6 to 7 p.m. at Dominique's in the Maison Dupuy Hotel, 1001 Toulouse.

I need to congratulate my darling friend, artist Amzie Adams for being featured in the new gallery at 830 Royal Street. Thanks to the vision of gallery owner Liza Faia, Anzie 's work can be seen daily at the new gallery in addiction to her other gallery, White Peacock at the Court of Two Lions,710 Toulouse Street. Amzie is a nationally recognized artist who has lived in New Orleans for forty years as a poet, actor, musician, filmmaker and painter. His style of painting which he describes as “post-impressionistic specialism,” is a combination of New Orleans dreamscapes and psychedelic color palates twisted and bent to form a unique style of his own. His work easily conveys the classic and the bohemian flairs of the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny, the heart and soul of New Orleans. Please check it out!

The Norwegian Seamen's Church, 1772 Prytania Street, announces the following musical events:
