Darling friends,
In spite of the fact that I have been recovering from a fabulous Mardi Gras 2009, I had to attend several events that were so important such the wake and funeral for Miss Antoinette K-Doe. Her funeral was more like a celebration of her life than an expression of our sadness. Her many friends sent her off as the true “Empress of the Universe.” May she rest in peace with her beloved Ernie.
I also did not want to miss the candidacy announcement of my darling friend Ranord Darensburg as a Civil Court Judge. The event was held at Dooky Chase Restaurant. The food was delicious and it was a true pleasure to see Chef Leah Chase and her darling husband. Not only does Ronald have a lot of experience as a lawyer, but he also has experience as a social worker which is very much needed in our judicial system.
If know me, you know I was not going to miss “Jazz in Film - The Movie Music of Terence Blanchard” with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. It was wonderful and I just cannot believe that there were empty seats.
Immediately after the concert, I went to the Bombay Club to see my darling friend Johnny Angel performing with his Swinging Demons. It was so much fun, and my friend and I danced the night away between eating delicious mussels and drinking wine.
The next day, I was ready to stay home, but alas that was not to be the case.. My friend lured me away to the Williams Research Center to see "Cajun on the Silver Screen." I had never seen the silent version of Evangeline done in 1925 with Dolores del Rio. It was wonderful and I can not wait till next Sunday, when the series continues with the presentation of filmmaker Pat Mire of "Dirty Rice" at 2 p.m. Free and open to the public. Seating is limited; reservations may be made by calling (504) 523-4662 or e-mailing wrc@hnoc.org.
Of course, I needed to continue going and, in between showing a beautiful commercial /residential property for sale at 830 Royal, we headed to "Nickel a Dance" at its new venue at Snug Harbor. It was wonderful and I look forward to next Sunday, when Kermit Ruffins and his band will the feature musical entertainment. The Nickel a Dance program is free and open to the public every Sunday during March from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Before, I tell you about all the wonderful events taking place this week, I want to congratulate my darling friend David Villarubia, owner of Degas House, who is being acknowledged by the French Minister of Culture for his contributions with Degas House. His Excellency, Pierre Vimont, Ambassador of France to the United States, and the Honorable Olivier Brochenin, Consul General of France in New Orleans, will present the award of the Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) for "significantly contributing to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance." The ceremony will take place on March 21at 11:30 p.m. at the Degas House. Congratulations David!
