Last week was very special since it was my birthday week as well as the first weekend of Jazz Fest. There were so many celebrations that I did not get a chance to go to the jazz festival but I am looking forward to doing it this weekend.
AS you probably noticed our town is full of jazz lovers from all over the world, as well as media people from out-of town.
Almost every venue is featuring live performance and the melodic sounds are spilling all over the streets. Most of these venues have no cover charge. I had the opportunity to enjoy last Saturday, the electrifying performance of talented, local jazz trumpeters Wynston Marselis and Irvin Mayfield at the Irvin Mayfield's Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. The venue was full to capacity as well as the courtyard and the lobby. In keeping with the jazz fest theme prevalent throughout the CrescentCity this week, trumpeters Irvin Mayfield and Kermit Ruffins are offering jazz lovers a chance to experience two outstanding musicians who will be performing on the same night at two different locations across town.
On Wednesday, April 29 from 6 to 9 pm,Irvin Mayfield will be blowing it out at Kermit's Lounge located at 1200 St. Bernard Avenue. While at the same time, in a true artist exchange, Kermit Ruffins will entertain at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on 300 Bourbon Street.
Validated parking is only $10 for 4 hours.
