RETURN OF THE CARROLLTON STREETCAR

New Orleans Streetcar Resumes All Routes

First Opening of the Carrollton Avenue Tracks Since Hurricane Katrina

The 170-year-old St. Charles streetcar is opening its last line on Carrollton Avenue on June 22, 2008, nearly 3 years since wind from Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the city’s power infrastructure for this oldest form of New Orleans mass transit. Neighborhoods along Carrollton Avenue from the Mississippi River toward City Park (one of the largest public parks in the country), which forms the “Carrollton Area Network (CAN),” plan to celebrate on June 28 for the official public opening of the line with banners, t-shirts, live music, and dignitaries as is the rich tradition of New Orleans culture. This celebration is a collaborative effort among CAN, the Oak Street Association, Pump to the River, the Regional Transit Authority, and the Arts Council of New Orleans.

COLOR YOUR WORLD IMPRESSIONIST WORKSHOP

Fredrick Guess is happy to announce that he will be hosting his Color Your World workshops June 23 – 27 and June 30 – July 4, 2008 in his French Quarter studio.

RSVP will be required, and we strongly recommend making reservations soon because Color Your World always fills quickly.

Workshops consist of demonstration and instruction, including working one-on-one with Fredrick Guess as he offers guidance in understanding and utilizing his techniques.  Topics discussed will include understanding and using the color wheel, still life and landscape composition, using color for light and shadow, deciding when a painting is finished, choosing canvas sizes and frames.

Regular class hours are from 9:30 to 4:30 including a lunch break.

Fees schedule and materials list will be made available upon request.  There are only eight openings each week and the week of June 23 – 27 is already partially filled. Because the number of participant openings is strictly limited, we must insist that reservations be made ASAP by emailing info@FredrickGuessStudio.com or calling us at 504.581.4596.

Keep an eye out for the June 1st episode of Forever New Orleans with Karen Carlson at 7:30 a.m. on the Travel Channel for a view into the workshop of Color Your World!
