New Orleans District Attorney Keva Landrum-Johnson officially announces that she will seek the New Orleans Criminal Court Judgeship, Section E. The seat has been vacated by Judge Calvin Johnson, who retired earlier this year.
“We have reached a critical moment in the rebuilding process in New Orleans. Citizen trust and participation in the local justice system must be pursued and preserved. As a judge, I will uphold fairness while maintaining an efficient and transparent courtroom. I want the citizens of New Orleans to believe in this justice system,” said District Attorney Landrum-Johnson.
For the last ten years, she has worked for the District Attorney’s office in various capacities, serving as an Assistant District Attorney, a homicide and sex crimes screener, chief of juvenile, chief of screening and interim first assistant District Attorney. She has also taught criminal law at Southern University at New Orleans.
In November 2007, Keva Landrum-Johnson took over the Office of New Orleans District Attorney, becoming the first female District Attorney in the state of Louisiana. Ms. Landrum-Johnson is a New Orleans native. She attended UrsulinesAcademy, and later received a bachelor’s degree in political science from WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned a juris doctorate from TulaneLawSchool in New Orleans.
