An information technology expert with 20 years of leadership experience in the banking, healthcare and governmental sectors has been named Acting Chief Technology Officer for the City of New Orleans.
Anthony Jones, the current Management Information System (MIS) Director, will assume his new position immediately. He has worked for the City since August 2005.
“I am thrilled that Anthony has agreed to serve in this interim role,” said Chief Administrative Officer Brenda G. Hatfield. “He brings decades of experience and can help us move toward achieving some of our many important goals.”
As Acting Chief Technology Officer, Jones will oversee all development and support functions involving core services to the city, as well as Project Management Organizational issues relating to IT initiatives. He also will be responsible for the establishment of an Information Security office that will set policy regarding protection of IT infrastructure with appropriate monitoring and enforcement of the city's data.
Jones replaces Mark Kurt, who resigned on Monday, February 12 for personal reasons. Kurt served as Chief Technology Officer for approximately 7 months after working five years in the department as a contractor for the city.
“We greatly appreciate the dedicated service and technology leadership that Mark Kurt provided the city, especially during these challenging times of recovery,” Hatfield said. “Everyone truly enjoyed working with Mark as he focused on key initiatives that would help our city recover and that would bring New Orleans into the 21st Century through the use of technology.”
During Kurt’s tenure as director, he initiated and maintained recovery information on the city's website, worked extensively with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on the city's behalf by preparing complex data for project worksheets, and strategically planned for the increased presence and deployment of crime cameras throughout the city.
