New Orleans Mayor-Elect Mitch Landrieu Readies For Transition and Super Bowl

Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans made history on Saturday and both hope to continue on Sunday with the New Orleans Saints playing the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl.   On Sunday, Landrieu said he would be watching along with his family, the New Orleans Saints play the historic Super Bowl game.

On Saturday, Landrieu, the Lt. Governor performed what many might consider to be an unprecedented feat for the city by winning the New Orleans mayor election with almost two-thirds of the votes cast Saturday.

Mitch Landrieu’s sister, Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu attended the campaign victory celebration on Saturday and a post-victory Sunday press conference.

At the Sunday press conference Landrieu stated that he would continue being the Lt. Governor until he is sworn in as Mayor of New Orleans.  Governor Jindal is expected to name a replacement.  Landrieu said he would transition in and out of the Lt. Governor position simultaneously.  He also said that he planned to travel to Washington DC to talk to cabinet secretaries and hoped to embed positions from the cabinet posts to assist with the recovery.

Why are there so many undocumented hispanics working around here and so many young black men walking around with their pants on the ground, not working? It's not the fault of the people working, I really respect them for what they are doing. But we have a society of folks of many colors that feel that they are owed and feel that they don't have to work to "earn" it.

Not really interested in jumping onto a ‘black’ grandstanding position there Kp, but I am pretty sure that a political party isn’t the reason for a great deal of the black populations ‘poverty’ but rather it is the lack of real and tangible opportunity. J-O-B-S are what would make that paradigm change possible.. To not merely limit people’s productive ability, but rather to enable productive people to realize that their abilities have no limits…. That is what progression is all about….

"just saying" something that NEEDS to be said Sharon. One day poor blacks will realize that their poverty is white Democrats' assurance of power... when that day comes.... then we'll have "change"

Sorry to disappoint. I have been a Saints fan since the first kick-off. And let me say if I am wrong about Mitch Landrieu and he brings real change to New Orleans, I will be more than happy to say so. I just feel that the Landrieus have been a dominant voice in New Orleans for a long time and the same people who were living there in poverty are still there today. As I recall there is a saying in the Louisiana Political Class that if you have the poor and the African American vote, you cannot lose. That sounds to me that there is little incentive to take the majority off welfare and make them taxpayers because that would cost them votes. Just saying.

You all are some sad suckers. I would not be surprised if you bet against the Saints, just in case.... Losers.

Geaux Saints. Rhette's Wife I could not agree with you more. It has been said that with Mitch's win the Landrieu's are the prominent political family in Louisiana and solidifies the Landrieu political dynasty. I wish that the election had taken place at a time other than when so many were distracted by the great Saints season. I hope I am wrong but I find it difficult to believe that he will risk his popularity to make the drastic changes that need to be made to make New Orleans a successful city and to change its image as a welfare city who prides itself on parties; not work or industry.

Dear Rhett's Wife: You are absolutely right! Mitch don't know nothing. He won't do anything for New Orleans. I voted against him too. I think New Orleans should not be run by fools or dumb-asses. We need good, smart leaders who have the trust of the people and don't try to make money off the people or steal from the people or lie to the people. You know what I mean? I am sure you do, I can just tell that we think alike, me and you. You know, like I know, what New Orleans really needs. All the best to you and Rhett for your help and support. Your friend, C. Ray Nagin PS - Rhett - check your wife into a home for the clinically ill. She needs help.

Mitch, dear, we did not vote for you. Frankly, we have issues with the Landrieu family because it lacks a concept of fairness and seeking only the best regardless of ancestry. However, we are willing to give you a chance. Choose wisely, make decisions based on all citizens and make demands of all citizens. Good luck - this city is still divided and the election results are not necessarily the feelings of all citizens. The total percent of those actually voting shows that. We will be watching your calls and your decisions and we wish you well. This city had a victory with the Saints and we hope it has a similar victory with your election.
