* The City of New Orleans and the Louisiana National Guard have established three distribution sites for ice and MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) that will be open while supplies last today thru Sunday, 10a.m. - 6p.m. at the following locations:
* New Orleans Main Library, 219 Loyola Ave.;
* Joe Brown Park, 5601 Read Road;
* Skelly Rupp, Baseball Stadium 2200 Vespasian (cross street are Shirley Drive and Wall Streets)
* Because of limited supplies, residents will be limited to one case of MREs and one bag of ice each.
* Due to the limited supply of commodities in the State because of the wide-spread devastation to power lines which have left many people without power, if residents can afford to purchase items from grocery and retail outlets that are opening, they are encouraged to do so.
REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY
· RTA began transporting returning residents from the Union Passenger Terminal today at 9:30 am.
· RTA transported (as of this release) approximately 8,481 citizens from UPT.
· 40 buses were in service for transportation
· 15 Para transit buses
· 26 buses from St. Tammany
· 6 buses from Recovery School District
ELECTRICAL/ENTERGY
· 44,736 Entergy customers remain without power; approximately 70% of New Orleans has power.
· Entergy New Orleans (ENO) has opened Customer Information Centers (CIC) at its Customer Care Centers at 4021 Behrman Highway, and 3400 Canal Street. ENO is also opening a portable CIC in New Orleans East at Household of Faith, 9300 I-10 Service Road, on Monday. CIC locations at ENO's Customer Care Centers are now open from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. CIC locations will also be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT
· 81 burglaries within last 24 hours
· 45 burglaries between midnight and 11am today.
· 38 looting arrests between Wednesday at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.
· 17 trespassing arrest between Wednesday at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. today
· 18 curfew arrests between Wednesday at 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. today
· 1 shooting - young man shot at Earhart & Claiborne today.
· The Department of Health and Hospitals mobile clinic is now open and ready for business. The clinic is located at 2222 Simon Bolivar. They will provide basic primary care and issue prescriptions.
· Hospitals have 70-80 beds available before reaching capacity
SANITATION
· 50 crews continue to work on debris removal; 10 additional crews tomorrow to make sure city stays clean
· Working with Entergy of New Orleans to remove cut trees
· All sanitation services have resumed
· 8 houses collapsed today and department is preparing to remove debris
· 8 street sweepers are out on major though fares
· Houses declared Imminent Danger of Collapse:
o 42 properties declared today
o 28 properties declared yesterday
PUBLIC WORKS
· Citizens are urged to clean out storm drains and any debris from their property; bagged for curbside collection.
· 50% of traffic lights are operational (total 450 traffic lights in city)
· Street light assessment started today
· Parking enforcement begins Sunday
· Pothole Killers will be throughout the city this weekend and next week.
· 20 vacuum trucks will be cleaning downtown and residential neighborhoods starting Saturday through next week.
HOUSING/SHELTER
· Behrman Center, 2529 General Meyer Avenue, opened today as a shelter for residents whose homes were damaged and are uninhabitable. At the time of this release, 100 citizens were sheltered.
· Increased number of homeless returning to city; Salvation Army is opening a homeless shelter; Odyssey House will be opening for youth; The Mission will open on Tuesday
· Tomorrow anticipate opening St. Bernard Facility; capacity of 500 people
CURFEW
· 10pm - 6am Citywide curfew, with the exception of the following business corridor zip codes: 70112, 70115, 70116, 70130 (Those zip codes remain under 2am - 6am curfew)
RE-ENTRY
· Thursday, September 4th at 12:01a.m began the City of New Orleans allowed all residents to return to the city, thereby lifting the mandatory evacuation to a voluntary evacuation.
· Citizens with health conditions, seniors and children who may have health conditions are not encouraged to return at this time.
