New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will discuss leadership with more than 5,000 expected municipal officials on Friday, Nov.16, at the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Congress of Cites and Exposition in New Orleans, La.
"Mayor Bloomberg understands the growing challenges this country and our local communities are facing. His willingness to embrace bold and innovative solutions to issues like public safety, sustainability, poverty and education reform reflects the true leadership that local government officials exhibit every day," said Indianapolis Mayor and NLC President Bart Peterson.
Bloomberg will be one of several thousand municipal officials attending the upcoming Congress of Cities, being held Nov. 13
Some have been speculating that Bloomberg might also be running for President in 2008.
In 2001, Bloomberg became the 108th Mayor of New York City when he was elected only months after the September 11 attacks. After a successful first term highlighted by the Mayor’s new leadership role in the city’s public schools, he was reelected in 2005. Prior to becoming Mayor, Bloomberg spent 15 years at the Wall Street firm, Salomon Brothers, before starting his own financial news and information service, Bloomberg LP, which now has 9,500 employees in more than 130 cities worldwide. Born in Boston, Mayor Bloomberg attended John Hopkins University and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
The Congress of Cities & Exposition is one of two annual NLC conferences. Each year, the Congress of Cities is hosted by a different NLC-member city and routinely draws thousands of local elected officials from throughout the country to its general sessions featuring national experts, workshops, leadership training seminars, and networking opportunities.

The conference will also include mobile workshops throughout New Orleans and surrounding parishes and an opportunity to lend a hand and help with reconstruction efforts. NLC is partnering with KaBoom to build a new playground for New Orleans children and Habitat for Humanity to refurbish homes harmed by the hurricanes.
