The Federal Trade Commission’s decided Monday to make product information and online reviews more accurate for consumers.
The FTC is actually regulating blogging for the first time and is requiring that testimonials reflect typical results.
The entire issue about blogging, websites and advertising has been a major question for years.Initially, during the Clinton Administration, there was a push to ensure that the Internet not be regulated at all.The concern was that the Internet was in the nascent stage and that enforcement would be difficult since online content was international, not local, regional or national.
The current FTC, however, is getting tougher on the web writers.Based upon its decision on Monday, web writers will be required to disclose what they receive for their product reviews and that the testimonials must be more accurate.
Violating the rules, which take effect Dec. 1, could result in various penalties including possible lawsuits.
The FTC wants testimonials to be specific about what consumers should truly expect from the products. Also, disclosures must be “clear and conspicuous”.
The focus is more on advertisers than on bloggers.
While I do not like government control or regulation of the Internet, if the Government is to get involved, perhaps it should expand beyond products and look at political sites. It should also take a more scrutinizing look at certain practices of competitive media.
Within the web political realm, there are various web sites, e-newsletters and blogs that are really fronts for political candidates, officials and policy positions. We never know who is paying the freight for the site, but, we can tell from the skewed editorial content and the articles that the publisher has been bought. It is one thing for the publisher to have strong and open positions. It is another for the publisher to be paid to skew the presentation of the information.
Then, there are those other media advertorials. So often, we see respected media outlets showcase various companies and we have no clue if there has been any quid pro quo in the promotion
Without doubt, the consumer or even the readers of political web sites and viewers, listeners and readers of other media have a right to know if the media is biased—paid for by an outside source in money or in kind.It is always better if industries engage in self-regulation rather than government stepping into the fray. But, when we see outrageous and obvious violations of the public trust by some of these media outlets, somebody should be held accountable and starting with the advertiser would be a good first, but not final step.

That is very true, and the way you get around it is you allow low cost homes to be available on the market so that people can buy their own homes... and you make job creation possible... Facts of the matters are a person cannot do anything without a bank, a credit card, a job etc., etc.,,,,, The reason why we are off the gold standard is because there is not enough gold to go around, paper money? Well, a bunch of horse crap going on there, but again, not enough to go around... China has it all, India has it all, etc., etc., etc. They are not buying us goods.... Why? because they cost more than their own.... Money Taxes.. etc., etc. I am tired of the argument, it is simply what the government and the banks want to do, work you into a godamned hole in the ground....... Make sure you stay sick, tired, worried, anxiety bound, dependent, etc., etc., etc...... Written by

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..' I think you basically just described business principle there Kp....... Do not confuse that with tax, tax burden, value, or worth....... The grass is always growing and it always has to be cut unless you want to abandon the playing field and turn it into cow pasture..... I am more interested in the quality and value of life folks are able to experience than slavery and disillusionment.... Physical slaves or virtual slaves, no difference... Slave to a taskmaster at a crappy job or slave to a slum lord in a crappy neighborhood, or slave to the banker in debt up to a persons ears because decisions were made out of desperation rather than prudent planning with options available in the background.... Change? yes change is needed but I seriously doubt if the folks that only want people to wander around with spare change in their pockets really understand the dynamics of the problems.... This Afghanistan thing? Changeable in one year, but we have to go out on a limb to achieve it.... We are approaching it wrong, but it has to be accomplished, and it can be accomplished...... People keep saying that Alexander the Great 'failed' in Afghanistan.... No, he did not fail at all, and to this day the mere mention of his name strikes fear in the inhabitants.... Alexander's problem? He stayed too long..... Consider this, we are now engaged in a three front conflict.... Huge debt to China, faultering economy, and the wedge of terrorist actions against us.... Any one of those catalysts are enough to prime the powder keg we are sitting on.... This 'Christian' nation brought the 'modern' world into being... and now they all can make their own ping pong paddles, their own video's, their own Disneyland's if they want..... Now is time to focus on our one true strength.... And that is our Democracy..... Without us, (US, AS IN U.S.)democracy will be extinguished on a world wide basis.... We need to get our house in order....... It is going to be difficult, but it is very doable to the nth degree........ And everyone can become a winner if they want to.... Something related that I read today: "Putting money in people's hands and telling them to spend it is not a problem. Producing the goods to spend it on is. Nevertheless, many people profess to believe that spending is our salvation. And one way to get people to spend is to roll the presses and give them more money."

And I ain't seen the sunshine since - I don't know when, - - I'm stuck in Folsom prison, and time keeps - draggin' on...... but that train keeps a rollin' - on down to San Antone'.. When I was just a baby, my mama told me, Son, always be a good boy, - don't ever play with guns..... But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die... Now every time I hear that whistle - I hang my head and cry.. I bet there's rich folks eating in a fancy dining car - they're probably drinkin' coffee and - smoking big cigars..... Well I know I had it coming, I know I can't be free...... but those people keep a movin' - - and that's what tortures me...

Oh well, all I can offer up is STRONGCONCRETE............ I wonder what would happen if 5 million other people in the United States could offer up something for the nation along the lines of that in their own respective areas of expertise??? We probably wouldn't be quibbling too much about politicians then, because I am sure that along the line we would have reeled those critters in, along with the wasteful public stewards and custodians, and perhaps even put the criminal element back into proper perspective........ O.K…… How about the subject of looking at what we have, what we can do, and where we want to go collectively? I listened to a state ‘custodian’ the other day and all I could see was how out of touch with people this person in his glass bubble really is… He brought up the subject of ‘revolving doors’ in the criminal system and his great idea was any person that got a 10 year sentence should be coaxed ‘forcefully (I use that word tongue in cheek)’ into obtaining a high school G.E.D. As if that would really cure anything…. Yes, it is good to be able to read and write, do arithmetic, spell, etc., etc., But the boat pretty much done sailed on that subject or left the dock….. What is needed is for folks (even those that got caught up in the stupidity) to be able to see where their efforts will really take them somewhere that has some stability to it…. The G.E.D. lacks the follow up necessary to allow that philosophy to work…. Ahhh, work, now that is a neat word… Without work there is no future and I don’t care if a person has a Ph.D………………. Affordable housing….. Yes, affordable housing that a person can buy….. Because this same person was talking something along the line of “Oh, a person can live in a public housing project for up to 5 years and then………………..” Well what then? No work, where to stay??????????? Again, the possibility of affordable housing that is not left to be borne on the backs of other income generators…. Real estate prices are down for one reason and one reason only, it is not worth what is being asked for it…. And new houses at $75.00 to $135.00 per square foot aren’t worth that either….. So folks, alternatives should be sought……………………………. Insurance, biggest scam on the books…. Accidental death and dismemberment insurance • Dental insurance • Disability insurance • Total permanent disability insurance • Income protection insurance • Long term care insurance • Vision insurance * Permanent life insurance • Term life insurance • Universal life insurance • Variable universal life insurance • Whole life insurance * Bond insurance • Errors and omissions insurance • Fidelity bond • Professional indemnity insurance • Professional liability insurance • Protection and indemnity insurance * Contents insurance • Earthquake insurance • Flood insurance • Home insurance • Landlords insurance • Mortgage insurance • Property insurance * Casualty insurance • Crime insurance • Crop insurance • Group insurance • Liability insurance • Marine insurance • No-fault insurance • Pet insurance • Phone insurance • Reinsurance • Terrorism insurance • Vehicle insurance • Wage insurance • Weather insurance • Workers' compensation * Social security * self insurance * Public liability insurance * Directors and officers liability insurance * Environmental liability insurance * Errors and omissions insurance * Prize indemnity insurance * Professional liability insurance * malpractice insurance. * Mortgage insurance * credit insurance * Collateral protection insurance * Expatriate insurance * Financial loss insurance * Business Interruption Insurance * Kidnap and ransom insurance * Locked funds insurance * Nuclear incident insurance * Pet insurance * Pollution Insurance * Purchase insurance * Title insurance * Travel insurance * Media Insurance * Legal Expenses Insurance * Fraternal insurance * No-fault insurance * Protected Self-Insurance * Formal self insurance * Political risk insurance * Crime insurance * Retrospectively Rated Insurance * Disability insurance * Disability overhead insurance * Total permanent disability insurance * Workers' compensation………… AND ON AND ON AND ON IT GOES…. REDUNDANCIES AFTER REDUNDANCY, OVERLAPPING AFTER OVERLAPPING…….. AND IN THE END???? UHHHHHHHHHH THE TAXPAYER BAILS THESE MECHANISMS OUT…………… We need to lower costs, wastes, fraud, abuse, cause our dollar to go farther here at home, increase jobs, productivity, export, and the list goes on………………………….. But yes, Kp, I am very inclined to agree with you…. What we have going on right now aside from folks dissatisfaction with their personal lives is also dissatisfaction with the way government is conducting itself on the public’s dime…. Enter the scenario where the Guv is broke, the people can’t really be squeezed for enough to retire the debts and refill the government coffers, and even if they were able to as a collective whole it would be a wasted shell incapable of further production…. Or at least any kind of meaningful production that would be supportive of this humungous infrastructure we have going on… The other day I had cracked wise about garbage men’s wages…. It is not a cookie cutter vending machine approach we can take out there that will cure our ailments…. But the only thing I do see is that instead of people being able to speak out freely, be taken seriously, and their combined will acted upon is a a government that will hasten to quash anything it can in the spirit ‘of keeping the peace’… And then what? Will foreign governments rush in here to ‘maintain’ security for Americans in much the same fashion we run off to other countries? Is it really the same issue? But according to protocol and what is considered politically proper around the world who cares if the population is short sighted or far sighted, the doctor must be allowed to come in and perform its eye surgery… civility…. Civility? If civility means bull sh^t then call the plop what it is, especially when it is used as a surrogate prop…… Written by

Amazing!!!! It did...................... Oooooooooooooooooohhhh, maybe the FCC is looking at me now???? Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell ---------
I'm just an average guy with an average life - - -
I work from nive to five, hey hell I pay the price....
But I want is to be left alone in my average home - - -
But why do I always feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.....
CHORUS:
I always feel that somebody's watchin' me - -
And I have no privacy....
I always feel that somebody's watchin' me - -
Is it just a dream?
When I come home at night,
I bolt the door real tight...
People call me on the phone I'm trying to avoid -
Well, can the people on TV see me or am I just paranoid?
CHORUS:
When I'm in the shower, I'm afraid to wash my hair...
I might open my eyes and find someone standing there - -
People say I'm crazy, just a little touched..
But maybe showers remind me of Psycho too much - -
That's why...
I always feel like somebody's watching me...
Who's playing tricks on me?
I always feel like somebody's watching me... Tell me it can't be ...
I don't know anymore - -
Are the neighbors watching me?
Well is the mailman watching me?
And I don't feel safe anymore, oh what a mess - -
I wonder who's watching me now?...
Who?..
The IRS?....
I always feel like - somebody's watching me..
Who's playing tricks on me?...
I always feel like - somebody's watching me...
I can't enjoy my tea!

The problem with any government "regulation" of the Internet - for any reason - is the proverbial "camel's nose under the tent." Government will "step in" to "protect the people" and will eventually control and tax the hell out of something that is - refreshingly in my view - completely out of their hands. I didn't think the control freak "we know best" Federal government would let that go on forever. As you said one can "tell from the skewed editorial content" if and how a site is biased - just as any of us can with any other news media. I guess I simply believe in the "self-regulation" of popularity by the public determining if a site is successful or not. I also do not trust each and every administration to be the judge of "bias" - particularly after the McCain-Feingold "incumbency protection law" which is the proper - albeit "doublespeak" - name for "Campaign Finance Reform." My, you are a pouty one today ehhhh 'Elaine'? Me, mindless????? No my dear, it takes a bit of concentration to connect the dots, and pretty much all I offer are dots on the map for peoples scrutiny….. And I am not aware of any 'self-promotion' but rather the promotion of Louisiana where STRONGCONCRETE could be concerned, but then again, I think I said something about concentration, not concentrated bovine scatology from the peanut gallery…… But if indeed, by interpretation of your juvenile spew about some kind of stone concrete (like that makes any sense, I have heard funnier quips from 4 year olds) belittling tactic you believe you are 'putting' STRONGCONCRETE in its 'place'.... Steve, if the focus is more on advertisers than on bloggers, then why did you start off with; “The FTC is actually regulating blogging for the first time and is requiring that testimonials reflect typical results.” in the first couple of lines???? Hey, I know, so that Jeffy can get his thrill, and Dave can maybe get somemore material maybe we should have the girls Dave bedded to blog how good or bad it was and whether or not they would recommend other girls to bed with him as well? And if we can get Dave to blog about it, maybe we could get him to tell us all the details……… The only problem will be deciding whether or not these blogs really reflect typical results….. Yeah, I suppose I knew all along that sooner or later the Gov would be in our bedrooms too………………… Gee, I wonder if that statement reflects typical results too???? Oh, this bloggy buzzy buzz buzz bored is getting sooooooooooooooooooooo typical and the results of blogging on it are so predictable……………………… Wut a waste………… Written by
