As reported by the Times Picayune on Sunday, D-Day for David Vitter could be April 7 when the Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the alleged D.C. Madam trial is scheduled to begin.
For many in Louisiana, the critical question is whether the Louisiana U.S. Senator will testify.
According to the TP, the US Justice Departments plans to call fourteen witnesses and the major issue is whether one of those witnesses will be Vitter.
As pointed out by the TP, the case might settle before going to trial or could be continued.
There is the possibility that Vitter will not be called as a witness for the Justice Department.
He has not been cooperative in providing any information about any facts regarding any allegations other than claiming that he engaged in a “very serious sinin my past” after it was his telephone number was revealed as part of the “ring”.
The prosecutors are attempting to show that the Palfrey business was a prostitution ring and there is no guarantee that Vitter would be a cooperative witness for the Justice Department. In fact, some believe, he would testify that he did not engage in illicit activity such as sex with a prostitute which would not help the Justice Department case but which would assist Palfrey.
The Palfrey case is another example of David Vitter being embroiled in controversy over his behavior. The Canal Street Madam has cited Vitter as one of her brothel’s customers and one prostitute who went by the name Wendy Cortez has also claimed she had a long lasting relationship with Vitter.
Vitter appears to deny both claims although has not affirmatively stated so since the breaking news of the Palfrey case.
Vitter also was the brunt of many jokes about his behavior and there have been many commentaries concerning his resigning after Elliot Spitzer did so in New York. Thus far, the Louisiana Republican party has not displayed any taste for the resignation and in fact, many Republican leaders have supported him.
Should Vitter not testify, or should he testify and not admit any sexual relationship related to the Palfrey business, there is no reason to believe that Louisiana Republicans or US Senate Republicans or the National Republican Party will urge his resignation.
Ultimately, his fate might lay with the voters of Louisiana if and when Vitter decides to run for re-election as US Senator.
And what is he going to be told to testify about? The quality of the services rendered???????? Written by Buzz, buzz, Buzz, Buzz..... What a bunch of Krupp

One good thing is that he cannot "plead the fifth" since the statute of limitations will be over with. Written by Dan

Dears, you keep speculating about David Vitter. What about all the others? In addition, we all know that Vitter's name was exposed as a result of Larry Flynt and his agressive moves to disclose names. However, we find distasteful his television advertisements about his erotic business in New Orleans. We did not have to be subjected to his vulgar actvities, now do we? Is this a guaranteed right to provide pornography in its various forms? Let's see if he has violated any of our constitutionally guaranteed rights or is he and his kind the only ones with rights - to purvey pornography or to guarantee its presence at his "business". My New Orleans really needs this kind of business and publicity. Frankly, Larry, dear, it is not what a woman exposes but what she doesn't that can be more interesting. Written by RhettsWife
