Add David Vitter’s name and face to the ever-growing list of Louisiana politicians for which we should hang down our heads in shame.
On Monday night he apologized for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam."
The apology was confirmed to the Associated Press by his office.
"This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible," Vitter said in the statement. "Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way."
The statement containing Vitter's apology said his telephone number was on old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates before he ran for the Senate.
Vitter refused to run for Governor for family matters but ended up running for US Senate the following year.
US Senator David Vitter
In addition, approximately five years ago, during the course of his run for elective office, there were unsubstantiated rumors about his sex life reportedly unrelated to the D.C. Madam.During that time, during a radio interview, he called one of the individuals allegedly making the charges a ___ liar.He then claimed he had used the word “friggin”.After a threatened lawsuit by the accuser, Vitter sent a written apology to the accuser.
Vitter, was elected to the Senate in 2004. He previously represented Louisiana's 1st Congressional District.
Many have considered him to be the most powerful man in Louisiana.
Truthteller you missed my meaning, and that was Vitter is above the laws that he helps write. With him the Law only applies to others, as in him watching the woman being sent to jail for just supplying what he wanted.I want to know why he is above the law while the woman goes to jail.

Add Sen. Vitter to the Louisiana Hall of Shame. The adulterous behavior from this arrogant, sanctimonious "family values" politician is not only two-faced but ILLEGAL. He engaged in an illegal activity--he broke the law when he is sworn to uphold the law. Vitter's public apology was only made public because Hustler Magazine was going to out the prostitute patronizing senator. As reported in the column, the wholesome "family values" Vitter referred to one accuser as a f______ liar, then apologized afterward when he knew he was lying. Vitter has aided and abetted an illegal operation. If one wants that business legalized, then propose a bill to legalize prostitution since you like the business so much Mr. "Family Values."
The blind ideologues will come out of the woodworks to justify Vitter's hypocritical, adulterous actions. Their only argument is to justify one form of bad behavior by pointing to other forms of bad behavior. That is the same argument that grade school children make to justify their behavior. Powerful politicians in prestigious positions of power need to be held accountable. Rather than hold them to a much higher standard than the average person, the ideologues hold them to a much lower standard.
Bill Clinton's behavior was equally immoral, shameful and reprehensible--Clinton should have not only been impeached, but should have been removed from office for lying in a court of law. Those who spin 24/7/365 play the game of excuse and accuse--excuse all of your friends all the time no matter what the issue, and accuse your enemies all the time no matter what the issue is. Liberals and democrats excuse Clinton but condemn Vitter. Blind ideologue republicans and conservatives excuse Vitter and condemn Clinton.
It is time to do the honorable thing after dishonorable and reprehensible behavior, by putting the state ahead of your arrogant and selfish ego senator--resign. We pay the senator's salary--he doesn't pay ours. He works for us--we don't work for him. Be a "public servant" and serve the public by stepping down!

I have read EVERYONES comments and I have to agree both sides make good points. I would however like to remind you of a story I heard... A woman, (No they didn't bring the man) was caught in adultery, CAUGHT IN THE ACT I am lead to believe, and drug before the judges of her time, the judges had heard of a man that was considered to be wise, and seeking to trick him into saying something contrary to the law, they took her to him and told him what she did, he said nothing but began to write in the dirt, Now I have heard different versions of what he wrote I would like to believe that he wrote in the dirt the names of the women and MEN they had slept with or maybe were still sleeping with. When he was done he looked around and said to her "Woman where are your accusers?" for not one of them remained, she told him "they are gone" to which the wise man told her "As are your sins go and sin no more" Aren't we being like the crowd, willing to judge and cast stones shouldn't we be more like the guy that said "Go and sin no more?... Just a thought from an ole Jarhead

Disclaimer:
White family-values Christian folks won't like this information at all. But for anyone else with a half a brain and eyes open it will not be surprising in the least.
Another typical Gingrich-style complete and utter hypocrite. Lord save us.

Hey you want to hang your head in shame, be my guest, go right ahead and feel sorry for yourself if it makes you feel any better. Senator Vitter is a decent and up standing person and politician who did something that was wrong and has asked for and gotten forgiveness from God and his wife. This as he said was something he did before he became senator. He was elected to the Senate after he was given forgiveness from his God and his wife. That should be enough for us as well. Did what he confessed to have any bearings on anything he did as a US Senator? I seriously doubt it did. Senator Vitter has my vote and support in his next election in 2010. Besides as the Democrats so aptly put it when President Clinton had his little escapade in the Oval Office I might add, " That was personal. It didn't have anything to do with his running the government." Though we could go round an round about that. Yes he did something he shouldn't have, but it did not have any effect one way or the other on his job performance. So hang your head in shame if you feel the need to. I, Sir will not, for there is no reason too.

Has anyone considered that he may have used a goverment phone to make the calls to solicit a prostitute? If nothing else, this is definetly conduct I would not expect nor accept from my Uniterd States Senator.

As I said in another post, if you voted for Vitter because you believed that he was an upstanding, morally good person who would bring about social changes in America, then you should be indignant. However, I do not look to politicians as moral or personal compasses. I do not elect politicians because I think they are good spouses. Therefore, I do not believe that my trust has been betrayed. Bill Jefferson, on the other hand, has betrayed my trust. That's because I do vote for a politician on the understanding that he/she will not take bribes or use the office for personal monetary gain.

Truthteller - I have an answer to your question. Laws broken: federal-0; state-0; parish-0; local- perhaps one. It would be for "Soliciting a prostitute." It will be a local law, because it occurred in Washington, DC. according to Louisiana law, soliciting a prostitute is a crime punishable by a fine not to exceed $500 or 6 months in jail. It is classified as a misdemeanor. By way of comparrison, here are other offenses with the same punishment: driving on a suspended license, impeding the flow of a state waterway, and littering.

Vitter's platform was traditional, conservative family values. Maybe frequenting brothels needs to be added to that family value package.
If he used the services of that brothel just for a massage, then he's even more ignorant than I thought. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

I as a citizen want to know how many Federal, State, and Parish or local laws were violated by David Vitter? And when will we see prosecution? Were felonies committed by Mr. Vitter? I think it is probable and we don't need two Felons in Congress.....Jefferson and Vitter setting in a tree....well....you know the rest.

Normally someone's personal life is, well, their personal life and too much was made by some about Bill Clinton's personal affairs. OTOH when the sinner is someone who's been one of the main right-wing GOP loudmouths when it comes to "family values" issues, well, he's been asking for it and deserves to get it.
