Louisiana US Senate Poll And Obama Controversies

Written by: Stephen Sabludowsky

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Is the recent Rasmussen Poll that has Sen. Mary Landrieu ahead of her opponent by sixteen points accurate?

According to information on the Rasmussen web site in pertinent part, “Senator Mary Landrieu, once viewed as the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent this election year, has opened a significant lead over Republican challenger John Kennedy in her bid for re-election.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows the Louisiana Democrat attracts 53% of the vote while the Republican hopeful earns just 37% support. A month ago, Landrieu was leading Kennedy by only five percentage points, 49% to 44%.”

On Friday, I raised a question about the differential in the Rasmussen poll and a Zogby poll which the Kennedy camp had been touting a few weeks ago which showed that Kennedy was leading by approximately six points.  That poll was an online opt in poll but it was the first poll that indicated that Kennedy was ahead.  Bayoubuzz questioned Zogby about the accuracy of that poll and ran their defense without comment.

Adding to the controversy, on Friday, I mistakenly said that the Rasmussen poll was commissioned by Landrieu.  That statement was based upon my recollection of what I had read or heard but the information did not come from the Landrieu camp.  After publishing the story, the Landrieu camp called me and said they had nothing to do with the Rasmussen poll and asked if I would correct my mistake.

Later during the day, the Kennedy campaign issued the following email:

“On the eve of Mary Landrieu’s speaking role at the Democratic Convention this Tuesday, a prominent pro-Landrieu Web site today reported her highly touted push poll from Rasmussen was “commissioned” by Landrieu herself! Louisiana’s own BayouBuzz this morning wrote the “poll commissioned by Mary Landrieu showed her with a sixteen point lead over John Kennedy.”

Click here to read the post:

“Two polls for U.S. Senate in an approximate two week spread have shown an amazing change.  This is assuming one accepts the results of either the Zogby poll or the Rasmussen polls.  Zogby which was an opt-in online poll showed Kennedy with a lead for the first time within the margin of error, but still a lead.  A few weeks later, a poll commissioned by Mary Landrieu showed her with a sixteen point lead over John Kennedy.  That would mean an approximate twenty-two point differential within a matter of a few short weeks. “  (Itallics were placed on a column by Bayoubuzz on Friday for demarcation purposes)

I took issue with the Kennedy camp’s characterization that Bayoubuzz is a “pro-anybody website” as it relates to candidates for office.  I felt they were attempting to link my erroneous statement to bolster their own position in what appears to be an attempt to undermine the Rasmussen poll and even trying to give the undermining more credibility by saying that the information came from Bayoubuzz, and in their own words (not ours) “a pro-Landrieu site”.

However, I do thank the campaign for using the word “prominent”.  For more detailed information in defending Bayoubuzz’s objectivity and on this issue, click here.

On Friday, I also promised that I would be obtaining information from Rasmussen about payment for the poll.

Today, I called Rasmussen and talked to Mike Boniello.  I asked him who paid for the poll.  He told me that nobody paid for the poll.  He said that they do the polls for their own content for their web site.  They accept advertising.  I specifically asked if any campaign, or the Landrieu campaign or anyone associated with the campaign paid for the poll and he said that all of their polls are done for content purposes and are not commissioned or paid by anyone.  I might note that Zogby site also receives advertising.

Bayoubuzz has no opinion on the accuracy of the Zogby or the Rasmussen polls.  We have raised the issue on the differential between the two polls and queried why there would be such a discrepancy over such a short period of time.  The Bayoubuzz readers are free to draw whatever conclusions they want about the polls.

In close, I believe we will see shifts in the polls as we get closer to the election.   For those who support Landrieu, they should be pleased with the Rasmussen poll.  For those who support Kennedy, I assume they will stick by the Zogby poll for now.

Again, polling is merely a snapshot in time.  Many factors can cause polls to shift and sometimes dramatically.  Candidates like to promote polls in their favor to show their strength and to help them raise money.  I assume we will see more polls as Election Day nears, but the ultimate determinative is the voting booth on Election Day.

Is Obama legally qualified to be President?

According one Democrat, who appears to be a Clinton supporter, Obama lacks the legal qualifications to be President and has filed a lawsuit questioning the citizenship of the Democratic nominee.  The plaintiff is asking for injunctive relief.  The lawsuit comes right before the Democratic convention.  According to one supporter of the legal action, it is better to get the information out in the open now before a Republican October surprise.  Out of confusion and some suspicion about the facts alleged, I have raised questions about why national media has not picked up the story.  However, I am also mindful of the Edwards media debacle a few weeks ago.

The supporter has said that the information is on a website www.obamacrimes.com       I also note that it has been reported that Clinton is releasing her delegates pledged to her.  A conservative publication which has followed the story has questioned the allegations.

Still, I wonder why the national media has not run with the story.  I also look forward to the legal determinations resulting from the lawsuit.

No there is no irony about the military base that McCain was born on, it is considered as sovereign U.S. soil, much in the same way as if he had been born on a U.S. Navy Hospital ship flying the U.S. flag out at sea …… And as to whom his parents are/were, this is abundantly clear.... And completely condoned.... backed by law…… and the Constitution of the United States of America….. A person may say that the ‘representatives’ engaged in ratifying the U.S. Constitution were at one time subjects to the British Crown, however, each had been naturally born in the areas encompassed by the original 13 colonies……. And even though this was not a prerequisite to becoming a congressional representative, it was stated in the THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION……. Article. II. ….. Section. 1. …… Clause 5: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States………. I believe it was Alexander Hamilton who did not run or was ineligible to run for president because he was born in Haiti, or Jamaica or something like that out in the British West Indies... To parents of foreign citizenship……. Even though he was a 'blue blood' and extremely patriotic, as well as highly instrumental in the early days of the formation of the ‘Republic’ we now enjoy today…… He was barred and considered ineligible to serve as President of the United States of America by the U.S. Constitution which was ratified in the late 1700's many years after the declaration of Independence was drawn up..... You may know him as the face on the $10 bill... (Even though only representatives or ‘commissioners’ of 5 “states” originally met at the Annapolis convention to discuss amendments to the articles of Confederation that were originally drafted by the Continental Congress…. They stipulated that it would only take 9 states to seal the deal where final ratification or establishment intent were to be concerned. The steps involved were as follows: The Constitution was adopted by a convention of the States on September 17, 1787, and was subsequently ratified by the several States, on the following dates: Delaware, December 7, 1787; Pennsylvania, December 12, 1787; New Jersey, December 18, 1787; Georgia, January 2, 1788; Connecticut, January 9, 1788; Massachusetts, February 6, 1788; Maryland, April 28, 1788; South Carolina, May 23, 1788; Ratification was completed on June 21, 1788 when New Hampshire signed on. The Constitution was subsequently ratified by Virginia, June 25, 1788; New York, July 26, 1788; North Carolina, November 21, 1789; Rhode Island, May 29, 1790; and Vermont, January 10, 1791.) And he arguably was like WAY higher in morals, virtues, perseverance, courage, intellect, and stature than Obama can ever attain..... Now, as far as Obama,....... and the Electoral College....... Though electors are pledged to the candidates of their party, there is nothing in the Constitution requiring them to so vote - and, in fact, every so often an elector defects from his party's candidates, though the effect on the election is usually nil. Some states have laws against electors casting such "faithless" votes, but it is unclear if anyone could actually be prosecuted under such laws, since the electors are protected by the Constitution (though not in so many words). Though the term is never used in the Constitution itself, the electors that choose the President at each election are traditionally called a College. In the context of the Constitution, the meaning of college is not that of a school, but of a group of people organized toward a common goal. But still all in all, you really have to wonder about the motivations of college type folks these days………. The Electoral College insulates the election of the President from the people by having the people elect not the person of the President, but the person of an Elector who is pledged to vote for a specific person for President. Though the ballot may read "John McCain" or "Osama Obama" you're really voting for "Joe Blow" who is a ‘Z’ supporter or "Nancy Entranceme" (funny how the word entranced starts with the word entrance) who is an ‘X’ supporter. However, considering various philosophies or disciplines such as manifest destiny or the Monroe Doctrine and the expanse of time involved during their pursuit this type of an approach is not such a far fetched subject... Especially when taking into account Marxism versus Leninism, or Stalinism...... or any other human ruling tangent contemplated for discussion ranging from monarchy to oligarchy, or plutocracies and aristocracies…. Or even go out on a limb and consider the primordial state of mind when Cockfighting, dog fighting, horseracing, stamp collecting, buying a classical painting for 20 million, and everything in between is taken into consideration… including even varying nuances that differentiate the selection of bridge over gin, or poker over blackjack, roulette instead of baccarat…… Wut ever…….. When considering the psychological state of mind of possessed by those who wish to lead or have power over others…. So what about Obama??? Well, his biological father was not a citizen of the United States of America…… He was Kenyan, he died Kenyan…….. simple as that…….. and secondly, Obama spent his initial formulate years in Jakarta… He is ½ of foreign abstract……. And steeped in the Muslim discipline……. As much as I like Schwarzenegger, and as sure as I am of his patent Americanism, he is not qualified to be a candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America……… due to the THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION……. Article. II. ….. Section. 1. …… Clause 5. Now consider select little subjects arrived upon to be studied from birth, watched, sometimes aided, and often times tested, maneuvered, or placed etc. in the name or pursuit of the game of the shaping of the human destiny………. enter Farmer John syndrome… (Remember Tonopah there F.J.? Heh-heh… I do, and I was only 2.….. Geronimo, crop dusters, G. Explorer… it is all simply a game… ) And consider anticipated cloning technologies, or test tube babies, and sperm banks, etc….. Our founding fathers never anticipated this type of a future…… Now enter the shaping of governmental interests and pursuits... (I didn’t write ‘U.S. governmental’; I wrote ‘governmental’ as in ‘instrumental’.) Perhaps considered as unrelated by some, but not really so far fetched In my opinion, one reason why a promoter does not go to the Appalachians, select a man/wife team or multiple man/wife teams that are sturdy, tall, strong, even athletic in nature, confident in composure and then cultivate and nurture their sons from day one, training them in the discipline of boxing in the pursuit of the 'return of the Great White Hope' in the boxing ring is because of limited participation, dedication, and the elapse of time (The return of a ‘Great White Hope’ is considered by some in certain sport circles to be something that would invigorate attentions to this sector of athletic events much in the same way as Tiger Woods has done for golfing, and generating fantastic money in many sectors of various industries for some.) experienced on the part of the initial investor..... In other words, the limited mortality of the human existence… 25 years is a long time to wait for a hopeful return on a personal prospect......... Telefon, genetic engineering, political engineering……. There is a lot more of that around than the common person suspects…… You simply have to be able to identify the subtle little clues when you experience them.. Perhaps we are witnessing the clash of Jefferson – Hamilton Ideals at this very point in time and those two conditions are being rendered moot by a new politico trend that is steeped in corporatism… With the subliminal clash of isolationist versus imperialist views being the guise this is being conducted under….. And for this to become advent, first there must be change………… “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.” - Adolph Hitler…. Ahhh,,, and let us not forget the Piyush syndrome……….. Much of the same underlying semantics or nuances involved there as well….. I do believe our government is being manipulated….. And the prevalent attitude is that of patrons such as Chang Kai-Chek and those types of reasoning’s for doing what they did, or perhaps a modus operandi such as that which we practiced on Russia is being copied to cause us to capitulate economically…. This is the test of time…… I grade Obama unfit, unqualified, unreliable…….. And, in the instance of interpretation of the Constitution, if I were one of the conservatives on the bench, my interpretation would be that of him being ineligible…..

This is not about negative campaigning(which I also don't like), John Kerry, the 2000 or 2004 elections, one political party or another. It was certainly fair to attack John Kerry about whatever testimony he gave to Congress post Vietnam, and if he couldn't answer it shame on him. It's about giving credence by giving coverage to completely baseless allegations. I feel the same way about the crazy things that Corsi previously said/wrote about McCain, the Pope, etc. TThis guy is another Corsi. At some point the media has to excercise discretion about what it prints- not what it investigates- otherwise we might as well read the Enquirer. I believe that whichever side is benefiting from it has an obligation to disclaim it.

Doris Clark, I didn't read all of yesterdays BayouBuzz, so apparently I missed those comments you are speaking about. So if you say they were written I stand corrected. Also I see my "shot" the t was cut when I put the comma in.

Ben, I think I read two columns today on Bayoubuzz against Obama and his VP pick and one criticizing the media who is criticizing Obama. Also, Jeff Crouere has been writing for bayoubuzz has clearly been talking about a liberal Obama. So, I am not sure how you can say Bayoubuzz has not been writing about Obama from a pro and negative standpoint. Do we want fairness or do we want slant? Plus, doesn't Bayoubuzz give the people the right to express ourselves on the various articles and columns without censoring? So, I disagree with you.

Landreau started the negative campaigning ad's on TV. I think Kennedy has the right to address those fictious Landreau ad's. Nancy get over John Kerry's run for President! When Kerry testify before a congressional committee that he had seen American soldiers commenting atrocities and he had too, he should have been court-martialed for treason and war atrocities taken out and sho. That's the reason for the Swift boat ads and no Vietnam Veteran would come near him! As for Landreau and Kennedy; both are taking credit for somethings they didn't do. Landreau, oil sharing revenue she did single-handedly, procuring funding for the military vehicle manufactured saving those jobs, now its something else she single-handedly has accomplish. As far as I know or care to know Barack Hussein Obama is a citizen. The only thing the media isn't reporting is how far to the left he and Michelle really are, including Bayoubuzz.

The irony about questions of Obama's citizenship is that John McCain was born in the Canal Zone -- a locale that was clearly a part of another country -- Panama

But my gut reaction to Piyush, and Osama is that they are some kind of weird little experiment in Government Coup processes.......... Very similar backgrounds, once you catagorize the related abstracts and assess them for what they are worth... I do have a feeling that the enemy is firmly entrenched within..........

I am surprised that you would report this. It's right in line with Corsi's Swift Boat garbage. Why give this any dignity by publishing it? It was shameful when the Republican party allowed nasty rumors to float around about McCain years ago when they wanted Bush elected, it was shameful for all service men when they did not step in when Kerry was swiftboated, it is shameful that they don't disclaim the current swiftboating of Obama, and it is shameful when you spread this further. How about a debate about the truth of Mein Kampf next? This type of nastiness should be ignored and the people spreading it should be shunned. There are plenty of real issues that need to be discussed. Nancy Marshall

This "rant" about Obama is in line with the questions about whether he is "American enough" (with the foreign-sounding name), "patriotic" (flag pin?), etc. His mother is from Kansas. Under our Constitution, he is a citizen, because he was born to an American mother. This attempt to raise doubts about his citizenship is very similar to the attempt to raise doubts about McCain's qualification as President, because he was born in the Canal Zone. His parents are/were American citizens, and the Canal Zone was an American territory 70+ years ago.

This line on OBAMA has been out there for months... It has something to do with his Mother not getting him to Hawaii within a 'so much elapsed time frame' after his stint learning the Muslim faith over there where ever it was he was being taught his basic funadamental belief system as a little, little, little boy....... Must have been nice when he finally got to the Hawaii, food must have been an interesting experience for him... Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!!!! Of course it could have been worse I suppose, and his formulative years could have been spent in front of the color T.V. daydreaming of the day he could become Bobby Brady........ er uh,,, Piyush, err unnn,,,,,,,,,,, Bobby JIndal......................... Yeah, I am sure he has a great idea of what it means to be an American..... Pi Boy probably never been surfing a day in his life........
