Obama Offends Norway As He Accepts Nobel Peace Prize

Written by: Jeff Crouere

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Today, President Obama collected his undeserved Nobel Peace Prize and in the process insulted the gullible people of Norway. Usually, peace prize winners attend a series of ceremonial events such as a lunch with the King of Norway and a visit to the Nobel peace center. However, Obama is no ordinary prize winner and he totally disregarded tradition and refused to attend these ceremonial events. In the process, he has infuriated the people of Norway.

President Obama has no conception of protocol. He gave inappropriate gifts to the  Queen of England and his wife treated her not like a monarch, but like Oprah. Obama inappropriately bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, the Premier of China and the Emperor of Japan, but he refused to have lunch with the King of Norway. The monarch must rightly feel snubbed by this decision.

I guess the President is too important to attend these events and has to hurry back to lobby Congress on his health care bill. What is really comical is that the President, who is supposedly so concerned about carbon emissions and climate change, is winging it across the world to accept the prize, rushing back to Washington D.C. and then in a few days winging it back to Copenhagen to address the climate change conference. Global warming alarmists should be outraged.

The joke is on the Norwegians, who bestowed the award on a President who has accomplished very little in his career. The people of Norway must feel pretty stupid now, realizing the type of person they honored. Americans understand that his award is premature to say the least. In fact, in a Quinnipiac University poll released this week, only 26% of U.S. voters believe that he deserves the award.

The award has completely diminished the value of the Nobel Peace Prize and turned the whole issue into a partisan joke. It is clear that conservatives need not apply and only liberals are recognized by the Nobel Prize committee. For example, conservative President Ronald Reagan, who brought the Cold War to an end and liberated millions of people, did not receive the Nobel Prize.  It was an outrageous oversight driven by ideological hatred to Reagan.

What has Obama done to promote peace? Has he brokered any significant peace agreements? In the Middle East, Israel is feeling more isolated than ever. Wars are still ongoing in Afghanistan and Iraq and the only “accomplishments” Obama has to offer the world in his first 11 months in office are more government spending, more debt and an assault on the free enterprise system. Clearly, he does deserve an award, but it is not the Nobel Peace Prize, more like the political equivalent of the Golden Raspberry award, a razzie, that would be an appropriate tribute for the “chosen one.”

Jeff, how did you come up with that story....you should check your facts me before publishing a story...You appear as a complete idiot with that article...Here are some facts as written in the "Norway Post", articles by offended Norwegians??: Huge crowds cheer President Obama A huge crowd of around 10,000 people, many carrying torches, assembled outside the Grand Hotel in Oslo Thursday evening to greet Nobel Laureate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, as they stepped out on the balcony of their room. The couple waved to the cheering crowd for several minutes, before they stepped back and went down to the traditional banquet with 250 invited guests, in honour of the Nobel Peace Prize winner. In addition there was also a peaceful demonstration by peace activists from several countries around the world, calling for an end to all wars, and to nuclear proliferation. Among the invited guests were also the Norwegian Royal Family as well as many of the artists who will perform at the Nobel Concert on Friday evening. President Obama: - War plays a role in achieving peace In his acceptance speech, after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize at the Oslo City Hall on Thursday, US President Barack Obama faced the critical questions asked by many since he was awarded the Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. - I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility," Obama said after accepting the prize. - And yet I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the considerable controversy that your generous decision has generated. In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage. Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize – Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela – my accomplishments are slight. And then there are the men and women around the world who have been jailed and beaten in the pursuit of justice; those who toil in humanitarian organizations to relieve suffering; the unrecognized millions whose quiet acts of courage and compassion inspire even the most hardened of cynics. I cannot argue with those who find these men and women – some known, some obscure to all but those they help – to be far more deserving of this honor than I. - But perhaps the most profound issue surrounding my receipt of this prize is the fact that I am the Commander-in-Chief of a nation in the midst of two wars. One of these wars is winding down. The other is a conflict that America did not seek; one in which we are joined by forty three other countries – including Norway – in an effort to defend ourselves and all nations from further attacks. - Still, we are at war, and I am responsible for the deployment of thousands of young Americans to battle in a distant land. Some will kill. Some will be killed. And so I come here with an acute sense of the cost of armed conflict – filled with difficult questions about the relationship between war and peace, and our effort to replace one with the other. Obama also spoke about how it is that war sometimes is an absolute necessity in order to achieve peace. - We can acknowledge that oppression will always be with us, and still strive for justice. We can admit the intractability of depravation, and still strive for dignity. We can understand that there will be war, and still strive for peace. We can do that – for that is the story of human progress; that is the hope of all the world; and at this moment of challenge, that must be our work here on Earth, Obama concluded.

What kinda Bozo is this Jeff, obviously uneducated & ignorant....Obama was well deserved of the Nobels Prize, in that he was not a BUSH!! & for that reason alone. Most people in Europe realize that with no doubt!!As to offending the Norwegians...seriously doubt that...takes a little more than a US president missing a dinner....

Some clarification is needed - Obama didn't treat the Queen of England as a monarch, but at the same time, he shouldn't have bowed to the Premier of China, the King of Saudi Arabia, or the Emperor of Japan? How exactly then does one handle a monarch? Jeff needs to write _The Conservative's Handbook of Etiquette and Protocol_. That would provide an invaluable service to future presidents and members of our diplomatic corps. For example, from the above am I to infer that one only affords royal treatment to lightly-skinned royalty - is that the rule?????? To bank on the late Emily Post's name recognition, Jeff's nom de plume could become "J.D.A. Post" (Jeff Dumb As a Post). Just a suggestion! TW

With all of the socialist "change" Obama is enacting, one can only "hope" the voters will throw the bums out come next November.

A Nobel Prize for hope? Sounds like a Nobel Prize given in hope that he might actually do something in the future to deserve it. Nominated after only 12 days in office! Wow! Must have done something unpublicized during those 12 days, because he certainly didn't do anything before then. Unfortunately, now we all know what he meant by "change."

Check out the Norway Post, Oslo's English language newspaper, and you will see that the President attended the Nobel Luncheon, met with the King and Queen, the Crown Prince and Princess, and the Prime Minister. In addition, he was greeted by a cheering crowd of 10,000 outside of his hotel. Doesn't sound too much like they felt insulted, does it?

I don't know Jeff, I think the Beatles had a lot to do with ending the cold war also. Folks in Moscow know who Paul McCartney is, don't have the faintest idea what a Ford Focus is, probably never heard of Jay Leno or David Letterman, and probably still think blacks have a hard time living in America if they were ever concerned about that abstract at all. Speaking of cold wars, right now I guess we have our own going on between the Congress and the population where this health care bill is concerned. What a joke........
