Blaming Sarah Palin For Obama Pounding McCain

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

“Don’t you dare blame her!” threatens Kathryn Lopez, editor of The National Review Online.  The “her” is Alaskan Governor and Republican Party vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

And…what are we blaming her for?

For U.S. Senator and Republican Party presidential candidate John McCain’s “defeat or close call,” Lopez says.

“Don’t you dare!” she shrieks.

But we do dare.  Not that there isn’t plenty of blame to go around the whole Republican Party, whose almost certain defeat could still be staved off by a miracle, like a brother who’s governor of a key state, or a helpful Supreme Court justice.

But today’s a different day.  Bush-league power politics won’t work until we next meet George P. Bush, the Mexican-American grandchild who George H.W. once called “the little brown one.”  How the Bushes would have loved for George P. to have been the first brown president!

Looks like Obama will beat George P. to it, though.  Regardless, the Republican Party lies in tatters.

Dare we blame Palin?  Sure!  The liabilities she brought McCain’s candidacy were obvious from the start.  That her liabilities were also the same qualities that made her so manifestly attractive to McCain’s advisors and even to McCain himself is the stuff of tragedy for the Republicans, and the ambrosia of Democratic opportunity.

Republican apparatchiks don’t grasp the dilemma.  Lopez claims Palin “has presented America with an entirely new type of feminism, one that conservative women and the Catholic Church can finally understand and identify with.”  Really?  What is “feminist” about a woman who lets her juvenile daughter run around with liquor and beer bottles in one hand, loaded pistol in another, and be impregnated by a high school drop-out, hockey-playing pretty boy?

Tell us again, Editor Lopez: Exactly what about this fecund spectacle will the Catholic Church will now “finally understand and identify with?”

What is “feminist” about a woman who supposedly conceals her own pregnancy, only to reveal it just long enough to fly on a plane in violation of aviation regulations, endangering her unborn child, and then, while supposedly leaking amniotic fluid, flies back and makes a lengthy journey to an obscure hospital rather than allow her baby to be safely born in a state like Texas or Louisiana?  Surely, the Catholic Church does appreciate the Palins’ decision not to abort little Trig, or any child, including the one that Bristol Palin is now reportedly carrying, married or not.  But there’s very little “feminist” or “new” here.

What about the true feminism of women who don’t conceal their pregnancies, but insist, nevertheless, upon being treated fairly at work?  What about working women who choose, frequently, to unfairly lose their jobs in order to get off their feet during difficult or high-risk pregnancies?

Lopez then calls Palin “a breath of fresh air” who’s “not a creature of Washington” but “a citizen-legislator.”  But all real legislators are “citizen-legislators,” and very few of them actually work in Washington, D.C.  Real legislators do learn a lot about the laws of their states—something Palin has not yet evinced any deep interest in.  If Palin had started her political career as a legislator, she’d likely be a much more knowledgeable future candidate than the party hack she’s fast becoming.

Lopez clearly sees Palin as the Republican Party’s ideal candidate to run in 2012.  “She’s an ambitious, honest woman,” Lopez writes, “who tries to make it all work without playing victim or sacrificing her family.”  But Lopez’s statement just invites incredulity.  Palin’s ambition is both obvious and discomfiting.  Her “honesty” has not yet been tested, unless you’re counting her parading her pregnant juvenile daughter, belted belly bursting through designer clothes, across the national stage as “honest.”  Nevertheless, “Troopergate” shadows Palin, and the investigator’s conclusion that she abused her political powers to damage her ex-brother-in-law’s career is disturbing, whatever one’s party affiliation.

And Palin constantly “plays the victim.” She claims the media abuses her by asking what newspapers she reads.  She claims her Republican handlers victimized her by spending a bundle to smooth her ragged edges—her ill-fitting clothes, her jingle-jangle earrings, her bangle bracelets that clink annoyingly into microphones as she expounds her curious views, her hard-to-follow, sing-songy diction.  To what end?  To make her more palatable and, frankly, interesting, to independent voters who are way more sophisticated than Palin’s gun-totin,’ Bible-thumpin,’ right-wing fringe.  Why bother?  Because that is how Republicans win presidential elections.

Palin’s shrieking that she’d been victimized was a selfish, destructive thing to do.

America’s presidency means a lot.  If Palin wants to truly lead, she should vie for the Alaskan senate seat that may soon be free.

If Lopez thinks that Palin can just use her amusing Miss Wassila strut to lead the nation in 2012 without such experience, Lopez should think again.  We dare say.

Now that the 2008 election and its historic high turnout is history, there is much greater appreciation for the privilege of voting. But most people don't realize that out of 44 American presidents, only the last 15 were elected in a truly democratic fashion by all of our citizens -- men AND women. Until 1920 women were denied the vote, and few people have any idea of the struggle our suffragettes had to go through to right this wrong. It's an amazing, awe-inspiring story! Now you can subscribe FREE to my exciting historical e-mail series that reveals HOW the suffragettes won votes for women. Believe me, it wasn't easy! "The Privilege of Voting" is drawing rave reviews from readers all over the world. Dramatic, sequential short-story episodes follow the lives of eight of the world's most famous women to tell the true stories of the courage of the suffragettes. Do not lose sight of what was the mission... The mission was for John McCain to hopefully get elected as President... Palin was not a factor, merely a tool... And she was a brilliant choice..... Now she simply needs to fade into obscurity because she will only be a distraction... Nice gal, reminds me of my aunt, wouldn't mind BBQ'en with her, or even snow mobiling... But no, she wasn't presidential material, and never will be, and it is a shame that marketing tactics became the trump tactic during this campaign, and if that is what the American public required to garner their vote, then they are too stupid to deserve an effective leader such as Mr. McCain in the first place, he would have had very little support from the sheeple... So yes, Change, and perhaps the next time around when it is really needed, they will appreciate and respect not only their right to vote, but the reason they vote in the first place... God Bless John McCain... And may he continue to have the will to give excellent service to his country in the future the same way he has in the past......

Frankly dears, i think the point here is: McCain is the one who supposedly vetted her, and then told the American people she was qualified for the job. MCCAIN is the one who after meeting her a couple of times, told us she was ready to be just one heartbeat away from the Presidency. If even half of what he said NOW is true, then boy, did he really try to sell the American people a bill of goods. If Sarah Palin is the reason some voters chose Barack Obama, that is no one's fault McCain's.

I don’t know, for the most part the nativity of the audience on the buzzy boreds really amazes me.. T-bluhhhhhbbbb, you are the one that cracks me up the most!!!! Thanks for the laughs guy!!!!! Anyways, the Republican party isn’t in tatters, it is merely in a state of self coitus… but it is going to have to do some better image/marketing ploys the next time around if the next election is even the proper time, or worthy of earnest Republican attention… at least for the show…… Right now, what we have is the classical “He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day”… The battle where Republican concerns are to be considered was not lost, the problems they wanted to avoid in the near future were merely handed off to the ‘mark’….. Now in as far as the war goes……… Well, do not be looking for closure on that (And no you morons, this is not some kind of metaphor for Iraq/Afghanistan so keep your musings on the back burner) in 2012…. Oh sure, the Republican Party can make a showing, but it is not going to be seasonable to achieve the Presidency again… Everything is cyclic… In fact, the dems will probably be in control for another 12 years or so… Of course everything is going to crumble before their eyes, and unfortunately ours as well while they are in office, but it is more or less a discipline of removing the fat which is what we are going to be experiencing…. I think the dems will consume their selves with their indigenous hatred once the realities of what is at hand become more in their face… Ahhhhhh,, but the chaos between the now and then of it is going to be delicious……. Yes folks, we are going to experience change….. back to the future style…….. But it is time to carefully examine Republican values and make the decision for what it is supposed to stand for, and that is individual state rights with general oversight of the fold conducted through proper diligence by a central body composed of representation by the whole… There really is no realistic change that we are going to see, a couple of shockwaves perhaps, and the hypocritical natures will be revealed as the realities collide…

Amusing to hear you say the "Republican Party is in tatters." The trend is obvious and all too predictable. 40% Democratic supporters, 40% Republican supporters, 20% swing voters. Only one "40%" segment can have their party in power. Either they eagerly await the chance to oust the opposition party or assume they have taken power forever as the other party will wither and die after their triumphant victory. The sad thing is that both of these parties are beholden to the banking interests - not the people. For such a great people, we are also pretty damn stupid.

The only shreiking I hear is from the author of the article. If you believe the crap about Africa and NAFT you must be one of the "informed" Obama supporters. McCain lost this election plain and simple. The Obama machine ran a fantastic campaign. McCain couldn't really attack Obama on conservative issues like his stance against drilling, illegal immigrants, global warming, etc. because they aren't any different than his views. Palin was a breath of fresh air and the old guard is intent on destroying her because she is a threat. If it weren't for Palin and Joe the Plumber the defeat would have been worse. McCain did not really attack with Rev. Wright or Farakhan, he ran an honorable campaign. McCain is a good and decent man, but he is no conservative. He was almost a throw away candidate like Dole was. Obama was running against Bush and he beat him and the republican party while he was at it. If McCain had run back to Washington and raised hell about bailing out Wall Street he could have turned the election. But he sided with Bush and that sealed his fate. Feminazis should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting Palin. But if you are pro-life you are not a feminist!

What footnotes? Do you even know what a footnote is? And please don't think the irony of my quoting FoxNews is lost on me. That made it all the more delicious, Baby. I'll back off the story if it proves to be untrue (I've eaten crow here before)! That having been said, it would not surprise me in the least if the story were true - she doesn't exactly come across as an intellectual, to put it mildly. I mean, she's probably not even as smart as you, which is saying something! TW

That Palin thing was a great marketing stunt…. It almost worked….. But let Elizabeth Doles defeat give the Republican party some real contemplations and be the benchmark of what is really at hand as they ‘groom’ their next batch of contenders….. I saw a Palin/Jindal button on the news last night, I almost pissed myself I was laughing so hard at the absurdity of it…. BOTH names, and the subliminal ploy being assembled… Piyush is cute and all that I suppose in a preppy sort of way, but guess what? Preppy is out… It has been out, and it isn’t coming back….. The Republicans want to play the popularity game, well, quit being so 60’s….. It doesn’t get it anymore, and the 70’s thing? Gone too……. Piyush will go over like a fart in a dive helmet with the voters in the next Presidential race if he is put on the platter……. Oh sure, offer him up as an hourderve, you know, a snack treat, but get ready to get over that recipe fast…. Oh, I suppose we will have to put up with the little Beaver’s cameo appearances all over the place while he traipses around the country on ‘image quests’ instead of doing his job that he claims he loves so much here in Louisiana….. Hey, maybe we could witness the rebirth of Fantasia if we could induct her into the Republican fold!!!!!!! I believe she still lives up in North Carolina……….. NOW THAT’S A MARKETING APPROACH WITH A TWIST!!!!!!!!!! Only make sure she doesn't get asked some obscure question like; ‘What is the Capital of Louisiana?’ She might say "New Orleans" and embarrass the shit out of all of us..................

Tee Dub, the great fact checker and footnote citer. Buying that Africa/NAFTA bullsheet story. You who can't wait to call people tools and shills for quoting stories like that if they target liberals. And using Fox news as your source when you bash that network in at least every third post. While there is some irony in Fox even mentioning that lame mystery source story, you choose to use it as a lead in to your heartbeat away from the presidency line. What a hypocritical, partisan hack you are. Do us all a favor and drop the footnotes and citations. No one references them (which I'm sure you know and depend upon as well), and it's clear that they are as biased, inaccurate and as full of sheet as you are.

Linda, dear, you are absolutely correct. However, we now have this junior senator with little experience at the helm. We can only hope and pray that he has enough sense to surround himself with people of experience. Stop the feminist and racist bull and let's look at it as Americans. Frankly, dear, all of that nonsense never did stop the women we are and knew from getting their way. Evidently the author has some problems with the Catholic Church. Wonder, if she has any religion at all.

And now FoxNews reports that she didn't realize that Africa was a continent with multiple countries on it, nor could she identify the party countries in NAFTA?!?!? And to think she might have been a 72-year-old man's heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the world? If you don't find that frightening, then you need your head examined. We dodged a major bullet on Tuesday. Thanks, Progressives and smart people everywhere! TW

All that may be true of Palin, but look at what we have now for a president. A JUNIOR SENATOR! Talk about lack of experience! No, I don't think Palin is knowledgable enough to become the next president in 2012, but neither is Barack Obama knowledgable enough to be president in 2008.
