John McCain: Economy Stupid, Keep George Bush At Distance

The economic report released today contains more bad news for this country. In the last month, 63,000 jobs were lost, the worst report in five years. The job losses are being felt in a variety of industries, such as construction, manufacturing and retailing.

The economic woes are mounting for suffering people in this country. There is a housing crisis, as more and more people are unable to pay their mortgages and housing values are dropping. Jobs are being lost and wages are not keeping pace with inflation.

While the job report looks bad and the economy is teetering on a recession, the dollar is tanking to historic lows as oil surges to historic highs. People are paying much more for gasoline and other consumer items. Investments are losing value as well, as the stock market has been declining steadily and homeowners are seeing their real estate appraisals drop steadily.

What is the solution? The Democratic presidential contenders want to rescind the Bush tax cuts and add trillions in new government spending. In contrast, John McCain wants to eliminate earmarks, keep a lid on government spending and maintain the Bush tax cuts. In my view, the answer to our economic problems is not more government and higher taxes.

Nevertheless, the fact that the economy is the number one issue is good news for the Democrats. They will be able to exploit this misery for their political advantage. McCain will be saddled with an association with the unpopular Bush White House, which has been the biggest spending administration in our country’s history. Even though McCain is a deficit hawk who fights government waste and earmarks, it will be difficult for him to break the GOP association with President Bush.

McCain’s best bet is to emphasize his differences with President Bush on how to handle the economy and hope that voters will not turn over the White House to a Democrat during a time of war.

Unless the cycle changes, the pendulum will swing to the left, only to stall and then swing back rightward. Unless of course this is REAL LASTING CHANGE……yada-yada-yada…sure it is. If the Dems have a veto-proof congress, it won’t last past the mid term elections.

If McCain does not wise up and distance himself form Vice-President Bush and President Cheney, he will not only lose but will buried in a landslide in November. The Republican Party is still living in a state of denial and has been since November of '06. There are 29 republican congressmen not running for re-election and democrats overwheliming favorites to pick up at four to six senate seats, and possibly as many as nine senate seats because of the carnage and destruction the Bush administration has done first to the nation, and secondly to his own party and to the conservative movement. McCain needs the money Bush can help to raise and needs the base of the Republican Party, whom he has spit in the face of for years, to have any chance of being competitive in November. Bush is the most unpopular president for the longest period time since modern polling began 70 years ago. Roger Villere and his $2,300 a person fundraisers cannot reverse the overwhelming American voter disgust and anger with the utterly, completely failed Bush administration. The republicans face the possibility of a democratic filibuster proof senate, a democratic president, and the loss of another 20 to 30 seats in the house. Once a mistake(November '06), twice a fool(November '08). A heckuva job Dubuya!!!

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff. We've had eight years of mismanagement by Team Chimpy - no one to blame but the GOP hacks who have been in charge of the ship of state, and all you can do is chime in with a whine about how the Democrats want to "raise spending." What a tired, threadbare argument that is! The GOP is so intellectually bankrupt it's pathetic. Economic forecasts good? Cut taxes! Economic forecasts bad? Cut taxes! Especially cut taxes for the top 1%, because they're the ones in America who are really hurting. "The Daily Show" pointed out last night that Chimpy McFlightsuit the 2000 candidate was criticizing the Clinton Administration for $31/barrel oil prices! Oh the irony there is simply delicious as we prepare to pay $4/gallon! I think people with at least a modicum of sense realize it's high time to try something different; something forward-thinking - something progressive. I, for one, have had enough of GOP mossbacks! TW

We are not in a recession - because Lil Bush said so! Forget about that darn data stuff - and $4/gallon gas. ExxonMobil's President had nothing to do with that. Long live corporate profits - I mean the Grand Old Party of Lincoln!
