John McCain, Louisiana Gov Jindal Visit New Orleans

As the current President, George W. Bush, has left New Orleans after hosting a major North American summit and holding a fundraiser for Republican John Kennedy who is running for US Senate, another Republican major player will be visiting New Orleans on Thursday.  John McCain and Governor Bobby Jindal will be visiting areas of New Orleans hard hit by Katrina.

Later in the morning, McCain will hold a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, April 24th at 11:00 a.m. in Xavier University at the University Center.

Some believe that Bobby Jindal will be asked to be the Republican Vice President nominee some time in the future.  Speculation has been raised since he recently announced that he will be appearing this month at the National Press Club and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  However, Jindal has said that he really enjoys his job and wants to be re-elected as Governor.

Rhetts wife, my dear, I wouldn't know, I guess you are sort of saying that "Ignorance is Blissful"? Or are you simply babbling around for the fun of it when you bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the bored? Or perhaps you want to become a legend in your own mind. Ehhh, who knows. It would probably be safe to assume that you would rather stand around and gossip about the child that drowned instead of walking into the wading pool and helping it when you had a chance. A poem by Martin Niemöller, an anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor, comes to mind. It says: The Nazis came for the Communists,,,,, and I did not speak up because I was not a Communist.... Then they came for the Jews,,,,, but I did not speak up because I was not a Jew...... Then they came for the Catholics,,,,,, but I was a Protestant,,,,,, so I did not speak up........ And then they came for me,,,,, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for anyone.

Raing Cain, dear, exactly who are you referring to? Is it little old me? Or is it Hillary? Just wondering. Oh yes, concrete solutions. Now what did we have to say about that two years or so ago. Now to go to our forum http://rhettswife.createforum.net/index.php?sid=37ff5ebfee9b9d971f02b8247f2783b9 to point those out.

Yes, I think the challenge has been put in her lap. I wonder what her reaction to that will be? I would suppose that now is time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their country......

I agree, she is #4 on the roll call isn't she......? So let's see if common sense really can prevail when it comes to fixing this lunatic asylum we are currently dealing with. All it takes is a little orchestrated effort to produce some strong concrete results.....

Rhett's Wife, dear, you could be a strong disciple for concrete solutions if you wanted to. Often times it requires alternative and strong advantages to overcome generalized social and political disadvantages that hobble the legs of progress my dear.....

Just read this quote: “There is [a] class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs—partly because they want sympathy, and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs… There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don’t want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.”—Booker T. Washington in his 1911 book, My Larger Education

We are not trying to be racist in our posts on this and other sites. We simply believe that this nation is not getting the complete picture of what all of the people of this area have sustained, as well as that of Southwestern, Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The situation nearly three years later is still serious and little appears to be in the works. This morning's paper speaks to the change in voters in this city. Is this news? No logic and observance would tell you that. We still feel the pull of anger at the tragic story that also appeared in the Times Picayune on Sunday, HOME ALONE Sometime during the night on March 15, Alvin Thomas..... The story of a homeless man with psychiatric problems. We read of death on the streets, etc. New Orleans is not truly home again. It is the pathetic remnants of what was once a great city, a city destroyed by incompetence before Katrina, and a city flattened by the waters of Katrina. From the ashes of these tragedies must arise that which is better than before and will continue into future generations to improve.

Well folks!!!!! We is famous....... According to Yahoo the following is Tourist Traps You Love..............They went on to say............... We asked for your feedback about bona fide, no-holds-barred tourist traps that you loved anyway..............By Liz Webber .............. Here are your top picks: Cliff House, San Francisco For gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean, few places beat Cliff House, which was rebuilt in 1909 after a fire. The neoclassical marvel earned raves from Sarah Blanke of Portland, Ore.: "Actually, not so much the actual house, but the [neighboring] mechanical museum of antique coin-operated novelty machines of all sorts and the walk-in camera obscura." Unfortunately, since Sarah visited, the mechanical museum has moved to Pier 45 at Fisherman's Wharf. But the camera obscura still projects a fantastically detailed view of the coast in a building on the grounds, using a trick with light and mirrors that's similar to the inner workings of a submarine periscope. Stroll the grounds for free, pay $3 to see the camera obscura, or dine at one of the two indoor restaurants that face the ocean.............. Fort Mackinac and Mackinac Island, Mich. Following the American forces' unexpected success in capturing British outposts during the American Revolution, the British moved Fort Mackinac, brick by brick, from the Michigan mainland to Mackinac Island. It remained in British hands until 1796. The fort closed in 1895; today it stands as a public monument to its long history as a military outpost. Carol Feider of Midland, Mich., says: "Mackinac Island is a total tourist trap, and I love it. Renting a bike and riding around the island. Touring the fort and watching the guides shoot the cannon. Taking the horse-and-buggy ride. And, of course, buying fudge."................... Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Dolly Parton knows how to put on a show. The Dixie Stampede outside her theme park in Tennessee is a "North vs. South" extravaganza with thundering buffalo, horses leaping through fiery hoops, and rib-tickling ostrich races. If Dolly's showmanship isn't enough, there are plenty of activities to enjoy. "Pigeon Forge ... is absolute fun and enjoyment," said Carl Wisnesky of Falls, Penn. "Lots of shows: breakfast shows, lunch shows, dinner shows. Great restaurants, nationally known ribs, and wonderful, reasonably priced food at diners, like Mel's. Plenty to keep you and your family enjoyably entertained."..................... Wall Drug Store, Wall, S.D. When Ted Hustead opened his first Wall Drug Store in 1931, he was hard-pressed to find customers. So Ted set up signs along the highway advertising free ice water, and Wall Drug Store has been the rest stop of choice for motorists in South Dakota ever since. Today, Western-themed statues — from Wyatt Earp to General Custer — fill the halls of the 76,000-square-foot shopping complex, which also includes a modest water park, a mining-and-panning simulation, and a 25-foot T-Rex that roars every 12 minutes. "It was here I first discovered what a tourist trap really is!" said Corie Lindemann of Coon Rapids, Minn. "Now, it is so camp and nostalgic, it just makes us laugh. Reading the billboards all across the state is still the most interesting thing about the drive to the Black Hills."...................... Mardi Gras World, New Orleans, La. If you've ever harbored dreams of starring in the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade, or just want to know how participants construct such elaborate floats, check out Mardi Gras World. The museum showcases the best floats from past years (a giant sea dragon! a 15- foot Cleopatra bust!) and houses a workshop where workers glue and hammer together next year's creations. Even locals can't resist romping among the Mardi Gras masterpieces. "I took my brother there during his recent visit, and we had more fun than two adults should—playing dress up in the costumes, then taking photos beside our favorite floats," said Melissa Combs of New Orleans. "We laughed like we were kids!"............................ Hoover Dam, Nevada/Arizona Border The Hoover Dam is big. Really big. In fact, it's downright colossal. The dam, completed in 1936 and 726 feet tall, is composed of enough concrete to pave a 16-foot- wide highway from San Francisco to New York City. "It's really a fascinating tour, and the enormity of the structure is awesome," said Sally Ridenour of Salem, Ore. But she especially liked the dam's tongue-in-cheek mementos: "The souvenir T-shirts are great — I WENT ON THE DAM TOUR AT HOOVER DAM."..................... Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square, Key West, Fla. Sword swallowing plus chainsaw juggling plus a dog on a tightrope equals the perfect sunset stroll? Clearly Key West's nightly ritual offers more than just another pretty photo op. Streets fill up with performers like Jace and Jean the Juggling Machine, Bible Bill, and local legend Will Soto, who's been juggling and tightrope walking in Mallory Square for 20 years. "It is such a wonderful tourist trap, but the sights are well worth it," wrote Patti Porco of Chantilly, Va. "The sunsets are always something special to watch, but the fun is in watching the street performers as well as their audiences, who both entertain while you wait.............. Of course they didn't mention anything about the 9th ward, I guess it isn't good for 'Image',,,,,,,,,,,,, and I would suppose that Louisiana loves promotion........................ Just so long as it isn't anyone out there that is a resident that is showing alternative ways to fix things in a cost efficient fashion........................ What a bunch of putz's that have their nose bent out of shape............. Probably because someone is suggesting that something viable can come along a break their little 'taxpayer funded' rice bowls..

Almost 100% of St. Bernard was devastated and it is vastly bigger than the 9th ward, BUT the 9th ward always gets the press. Lakeview was not only creamed, but Gentilly got smacked and Gentilly gets no press. WHY? If one were cynical one might notice that the ninth ward is almost completely black so that is why they get the press. Or if one were liberal they might say the ninth ward houses people who need help the most (can't or won't do anything for themselves). The fact is, there is likely truth in both. You have a neighborhood that is ill equipped, for whatever reason, to do as much as Lakeview, Gentilly, or St. Bernard. You will not see T.V. stars rebuilding lakeview.

When politicians come to see the destruction, they are taken to the 9th Ward. And this is for purely racial reasons. Pandering at it's best.

Our question is simple, dears. Will they visit Lakeview, Metairie, Mid-City, Central City, Gentilly, St. Bernard, New Orleans East, etc. or only the 9th Ward. It is time that this nation understands that more than just the 9th Ward was affected by Katrina. We went to St. Roch Cemetery today and we took a circular route to get there and get back home. We wonder where all of the alleged citizens are? We saw the vastness of the destruction that remains and we comprehend the seriousness of our local situations. Let's make it clear that many, many areas of this city and adjoining parishes were devestated. Mr. Mc Cain we believe that this nation can gain but you must see the totality of the destruction here and on the Gulf Coast. You must also see the devestation of Rita. This city was being destroyed before the storm called Katrina and only true leadership can restore this area and indeed the nation. Will you be willing to go forward with the challenge?
