UPDATE: According to Melissa Sellers, Press Secretary for Governor Bobby Jindal, "Governor Jindal’s possible meeting with Senator McCain during his trip to LA has been postponed, and Senator McCain’s trip out to an oil platform has been cancelled due to weather."
There are some in the media that believe that Governor Jindal has been trying to “out fox” them when they questioned him on the issue of his being vice president for the McCain administration. He has made statements but has never definitively said “no”.
Today, a Fox & Friends news article might be shedding some light on the subject but perhaps the title is wrong.
Meanwhile, Governor Jindal is expected to meet with presumptive Republican Presidential nominee, John McCain, today.(see above for recent update)
The Fox article said in pertinent part as follows, “Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he does not want to be considered as vice president on the GOP ticket, making him among a growing number of those pulling themselves out of the race.
” I look forward to continuing to be governor of Louisiana. This is a once in a lifetime chance to improve our state. We’ve cut six taxes but we’ve got a lot more work to do right here in Louisiana,” Jindal told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday.
Jindal said he did not have any inside information to disclose about speculation that John McCain could make a decision this week on his pick for the No. 2 spot.
“I’ve never talked to the senator about the vice presidency or his thoughts on selecting the vice president. I would certainly be surprised if they made a decision this week, but that’s entirely up to the senator and his campaign. They’ll make that decision I think when they’re ready,” he said.
Jindal said the ability to possibly serve as president is the most important quality for a vice presidential candidate.
Some pundits are claiming that Mitt Romney is now considered to be one of the major contenders to the Vice President position.McCain met with Romney this week.
Months ago, while Jindal’s name first hit the national radar, I said that Governor Jindal should “just say no”.Instead, he made one national appearance after another and is scheduled to meet with McCain today.I felt that Jindal had a major task at hand with the recovery, that he would disappoint many who decided to work for him and that the speculation would interfere with his own legislative agenda. After speaking to quite a number of individuals in position of power, I am confident my early thoughts are correct.
However, from reading the Fox News report, it does not appear that the Governor has said the magic words.“No”.
Earlier he essentially told Jay Leno on national television that he would not be presumptuous and would not say say no to the prettiest girl before being asked by her to go to the prom.
Ironically, last week, in an e-mail release, the Louisiana GOP in referring to the veto session entitled the release ““GOP Leaders: Just Say No To The Veto Session”.The Louisiana GOP has never formally taken a position on this McCain issue, nor have they publically mentioned it.
To clear the air and make certain there is no ambiguity so Louisiana can get on without all of this drama, should Jindal meet with McCain today as expected, he might want to call a news conference, with McCain present and officially go on record on the issue.
Although it is "presumptuous" for me to write the following, here would be a script that I would use if I were Governor.
“Senator McCain and the Louisiana people, let me state affirmatively and as emphatically as possible, I will take my name off of any and all possible lists to be the Republican Vice President nominee and any future cabinet choice. There has been much speculation over the past few months fueled by many people and events.I have always felt it would be inappropriate to say no when I have not been asked to serve a particular position. However, my state has been hit by major twin disasters and we have much to do and hope to accomplish with the help of the future McCain administration. Thus, as I have said often, I love being Governor, this is the job I want, and to make my position as clear as possible, although you have not asked me to serve as your vice president or in your future administration, I will not do so since my work as Louisiana Governor is not over.I will serve the balance of my term as Governor of this great state.Let us put this speculation firmly to rest.I thank you Senator McCain for any possible consideration of any job you might contemplated for me, but, I have a job I need to complete.”.
That would be end of story, there would be no more media attempts to shoot the fox, and Louisiana could go on picking up its pieces. We all would hopefully continue to recover from the shocks that has destroyed many lives.
I'll be glad when McCain pulls his head out of his time zone and just picks some silly sunuvabeach as a partner, maybe then we can get on with the rest of the stories, I want to see how this shit house ends up going down in flames......... Written by

I see where Jindal said on Fox today, ""Let me be clear," Jindal said. "I have said in every private and public conversation I have got the job I want. I will say again on air, I'm not going to be the vice presidential nominee - or vice president." Is he saying that he has told McCain that he did not want to be vice president or that McCain has told him that he wanted someone else? I certainly don't recall him saying "No". "I do not want the job" "I will not take the job under any circumstance". I do recall him saying that he loves the job he has but I also recall him on Jay Leno saying about not saying no to the pretty girl who has not asked him to dance. So, there is a real mystery here when he says he never talked to McCain about the job. If he never wanted the job, don't you think he would have just said so early on so Gingrich and company would not have made themselves look like fools? Now, he looks like a fool since it appears that he is not telling the truth about his own statements and just maybe McCain did not want him. You would think a man with such a great brain could be more definite. Written by Katherine

Well, dears, we are going out on a limb and predict that Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will be the V-P selection by McCain. According to our Minnesota contacts, that might very well be the scenario. HMMMMMM. Now won't that be interesting if we prove to be correct. Written by RhettsWife

The story is not over. It won't be over until Jindal says unequivocally, NO. How can you say the story is over? Why would McCain be coming to Louisiana, a small state with few votes? Remember, he just visited Romney. Why? Many say Romney is a top contender. Plus, why did McCain cancel trip? Because of Jindal's Fox statement? What does Jindal know that we don't? Or was it because McCain is for drilling and we just had a major oil spill and they were reportedly planning to do a tour of a rig for a photo-op. Bad day for photo-op, oil spill and all. By the way, since the meeting seems never to have been totally confirmed, how do you postpone a "possible meeting"? Sounds like more double talk. But, the real question is why was the "possible" meeting postponed? Fox? Bad weather? Sounds like good weather for the Guv to say on the record, "No, thanks". Written by Doris Clark

We will know Jindal's answer when he gives the 3 point reason as to why. So far, no 3 points. Written by Dan

Both candidates would do well to pick a VP who is closer to the political center than themselves. McCain - Joe Lieberman; Obama - Sam Nunn - these two would be fine running mates for the respective candidates. Jindal is a bit too young for VP, IMHO. Written by kpf

Lets all hope Bobby Jindal has enough sense to tell John McCain "thanks but no thanks". Being VP under McCain will be political suicide for whom ever decides to take that job, this is of course provided McCain is elected. Lets all hope McCain is elected because he's a mile high better person than the hyphenate once. Written by Ben
