The shockwaves that hit Louisiana over Bobby Jindal’s trip to Arizona should not have been unexpected.Nor should there have been a Team Jindal “coverup”.
The national news media ran stories about Jindal and others meeting with John McCain this weekend and suggested VP talks, quoting well-placed republicans.
Another national media story said other people other than VP candidates would be attending what might now be called “CampMcCain”.
The Team Jindal then acknowledged the trip but was silent about any vice presidency talk.
I talked to a very high-ranking Republican with knowledge who confirmed that the talks were about the Republican VP.That person did not want to go on record.
I wrote a column asking Team Jindal to be honest about their press releases and the reasons for the invitation to CampMcCain.Ironically, what undermined Buddy Roemer, another reform Governor was that many began to not believe or trust what he had to say and I feared the same would start to occur with Bobby Jindal.Roemer is a major aide to John McCain here in Louisiana.
The McCain campaign then through a spokesperson then said the Memorial Day event would be a gathering a not a Vice President hunt.We all are able to accept or reject the McCain’s spokesperson’s statement as being straight-forward or damage control..
WWL, through Clancy Dubos reported last night that Jindal was paying his own McCain trip through campaign funds, not state funds. In my view, the trip was about getting media exposure for McCain and talking to possible Vice President candidates (including Jindal). In my view, the idea that the trip was only about “recovery” was undermined by my private conversation with a major Louisiana Republican with knowledge and by Clancy Dubos of Gambit and WWL.
Jindal who has a tremendous amount to offer Louisiana and America should stay home and finish his term. Many Republicans agree with me.Some of them do not want Mitch Landrieu to be Governor.
Although I have not discussed the issue with Mitch Landrieu, I would suppose if Landrieu were to be Governor, he would immediately remove many Jindal appointees from their jobs and possibly from boards and commissions, if legal. We would be starting over again.
While I believe Bobby Jindal is a long-shot for the Vice Presidency, I believe, once again, he should say thanks but no thanks to John McCain. Some believe that Jindal’s vice presidency would be great for Louisiana.I think that being Vice President is not the same as being President and even states like Arkansas haven’t hit the big top after years of native son Presidents.Look at Bill Clinton and Arkansas.
This entire Jindal-Presidency matter should just evaporate. He is needed here more than he is needed nationally. While Mitch Landrieu has done a terrific job as Lt. Governor, and in my view would also make a great Governor, I believe Bobby Jindal should continue what he started. While I know others disagree, an active Governor with credibility can do more for Louisiana from the LouisianaState house than the White House.
Miz Scarlett while I agree race and gender should not be an issue I seriously doubt that they will stop being so until we have elected a black and a female to the presidency. After that it may stop being nearly the issue it is now (Condi Rice anyone?). Tee Dub, if you familiar with George Carlin's question "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?" you will understand that anyone to the left of stevo may appear to him as a "liberal." All that said, Jindal should have unequivocally stated he would not accept any position that would prevent him from serving his term as governor; failure to do so is to his discredit. Written by kpf

I for one am excited that Louisiana is getting positive press. Now if we can just get Mary Landrieu et all to stop acting like Louisiana is without any leadership and incapable of success without Federal billions every year, businesses might just give the state another look. Written by Sharon

I am a BIG Bobby Jindal fan, and I'll LOVE for him to have a veep spot, but will BILLARY Clinton's "hard working Whites" vote for him and McCain in November because of his skin color?
Also, because Charlie Crist rescued John McCain's candidacy by supporting him in Florida when it counted, he deserves the veep spot, and if I were John McCain making the pick, I'll pick Charlie Crist!! Written by KYJurisDoctor

Pi needs to stop being coy and start playing it straight. He was elected governor of this state just a short time ago. We did not vote for him because he was nothing more than rhetoric and a political climber, whose political ambition has ruled his life. Now we hope he proves us wrong and getS on with the recovery AND renewal of this state. Exercise his powers of veto and eliminate the wasteful spending that is apparent in bills now before the legislature. Exercise his rights as governor and protect the people of this state. PI PROVE US WRONG - PROVE THAT YOU ARE NOT A POLITICAL OPPORTUNIST AND MAYBE, MAYBE, WE CAN VOTE FOR YOU THE NEXT GO ROUND!!! Written by RhettsWife

Steve - please wise up. Let's assume that Jindal won't be on the ticket. It is in EVERYONE's best interest in Louisiana that Jindal be seen as a national player and continue the tease for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. No matter who wins the Presidency, everyone in D.C. and many in the business community will know that Jindal could end up being their boss in four years. This REALLY HELPS when talking about Corps of Engineers, CyberCenter, hospital money, DOD contracts, etc. Will we get everything we want - of course not. Will Louisiana get a fair shake and not be dismissed out-of-hand like we normally do - Yes. Written by steveo

There seems to be some confusion. I had assumed that the Governor would have to resign in order to run for Vice President, but, this morning, I heard a political analyst say that he would retain his Governor's post if McCain was defeated. Can anybody clear this up for me? Written by CL
