As the candidates round the bend for delegate-rich Super Tuesday mega primaries and caucuses, it’s coming down to Republicans Mitt Romney and the miracle man, John McCain and Democratics Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. One of them ultimately will replace President George W. Bush.
All of them have both positives and negatives as candidates and would likely have some of those same plusses and minuses as President.
Both Romney and McCain are now trying to “out-conservative” one another to get out the Republican vote during what might be the last days of the primaries.Obviously, the same goes for Clinton and Obama who are attempting to display their liberal stripes for now but who seem to have enough money to fight more of a war of attrition.
It is expected that whoever wins the Republican and the Democratic nominations will suddenly transform themselves into “moderates” to attract the mainstream voters who make up the largest part of the electorate.
Interestingly, one of the best opportunities for the candidates to show their real substantive mettle is to discuss the recent Budget proposed by President Bush and released last week. It is strong on the military although there are reductions in spending for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.It is short on domestic spending although there are exceptions to programs such as children’s education. It is also heavy on some programs favored by Christian Conservatives.
While there might not be much time or desire to input the Bush Budget into the debate for Tuesday, it defines the Presidential Election without getting into the worn-out retread discussions of who is more like or least like Ronald Reagan.
Americans are entitled to real substantive meat, whether it is red or blue.President Bush has given the candidates a platter of issues. The electorate, hungry for discussion, should seize on the budget and force the candidates’ feet to the issues stove. So far, the election has been jingoism and froth. It’s time to end the over-cooked sound bites and finally meet the issues meat.
You may be fooled, if you don’t realize “Big Money” controls both political parties. You may be fooled, if you don’t realize that one party’s job is to be the “threat” for an issue, the other party “your savior” on that issue. You may be fooled, if you believe the lie when the media - controlled by these banks and companies - claims that anyone who points out the names of these individuals and organizations who control the Clintons, Bush’s and any other successful politicians are “kooks” and “conspiracy theorists.” You may be fooled, if you think positive change will come about that is not already on Big Money’s agenda. You may be fooled... though you may as well be... since they control both parties and have fooled so many, which makes both our vote and our voice meaningless.“"Indian policy" has now been brought down upon the American people, and the American people are the new Indians of the 21st Century.” - Russell Means Written by nevermind...just an idiot...real change is coming
