Is Ron Paul the new Pat Buchanan on the Republican presidential trail?
No doubt, he raised the consciousness of America during the most recent presidential debate when he associated 9/11 with actions previously taken by America.
His comments immediately drew a response from Rudy Giuliani who then played to his base and which comments responding to Paul might have saved his own sagging campaign.
However the issue is Ron Paul.
Unquestionably, Paul is the Democrat's dream on the debate trail as he has attacked President Bush as late as Sunday morning CNN talk show for Bush's actions in Iraq.
Ron Paul seems to come from the same Pat Buchanan "America First" philosophy way or "American military intervention into foreign affairs is a waste of American resources and none of our business" brand of politics.
The volatility all brings to the campaign trail and to the debates which to date, have been a referendum on the Bush Iraq policy, is causing some Republicans to try to silence Paul.
Paul has a different way of viewing the world than the mainstream Republicans yet he claims to be the most Republican candidate of them all--citing support of low taxes and less government.
In another respect, the folksy Paul could remind many of Ross Perot who came from nowhere in the 1992 elections. However, at that time, Perot could find his own campaign given his enormous comparative wealth.
If Paul is to make a move, it certainly would need to be now rather than later since it is quite possible that the national debates will you use other criteria in selecting candidates for the rostrum. While Paul has certainly picked up steam since his maiden voyage in the debates, time is not on his side, since the Republican Party who is looking at other alternative candidates such as Fred Thompson a presidential figure both on television and in the minds of some, in reality.Plus, in reality, the Republican Party is not really on Paul's side, either.
If Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination as the Republican candidate it won't be because he doesn't have a strong following, it will be because the NWO will block him at every turn, legally or illegally.
We can't let that happen. Get his name out there every chance you can. If one percent of us in the US get behind him and donate a buck, and spend just one day working for his campaign, well, do the math...

Ron Paul can win if he gets enough money to present even the most basic ads. All people have to do is see his voting record and hear his main messages and he could win New Hampshire and/or Iowa. If that happens, I believe enough people would donate to keep him going. Hopefully Fred Thompson will adopt some of Ron Paul's messages if he too is to be considered a people's candidate.

Ron Paul will be the next President. Of course the Controlled Media and the two Controlled Parties do not like him. He will win with the vote and support of the people, not of the two mickey mouse parties or their Controlled Media.
They are frantic because their scheme is about to be over.

Ron Paul CAN win.
What is interesting is that the Majority of Americans
are no longer blind to Party leadership.
Republicans are no longer Republicans, Democrats are no longer
Democrats.
And the Majority of BOTH parties are sailing in the same boat
to "spread democracy" to the world.
On the surface this may seem "nice". But in reality
it is making the US a third world country, with LESS freedoms
than we have ever had.
Ron Paul understands this.
Wait till the housing bubble bursts. Or until China starts
buying stagnant Car Manufacturing Plant in the US.
Or Foreign countries buy up land to build "Toll Roads" for US citizens.
Don't think it can't happen. It has already started.
Dr. Paul is the ONLY candidate that intends to fix our
dilema.
Do ALL you can to stand by him, or the Cronies will be voting
to pass a bill for a new National Anthem, and it won't be for
"And the Republic for which it stands".

Thank you for your informative article about the new candidates and Ron Paul. He gives hope to many of all ages and political parites who have been feeling ignored by the actions of the popular two party candidates. I do not know how far this movement will go, but I think we may join the Republican Party just so we can help Ron Paul.

Congressman Ron Paul is the only hope this country has of becoming a Republic again. Only Dr. Paul has continually stood up against the imperial designs of our Central Bankers at the Federal Reserve. Only Dr. Paul has been a Republican who always voted against the Imperial Oil War in Iraq. Dr. Paul is one of the few Congressmen who respect the U.S. Constitution, because the first question he asks before voting on any congressional bill is: is it Constitutional? In other words, does the federal government have the right to do this? For all of these reasons, the central bankers who run this country from New York are going to try hard to marginalize him in their media controlled empires. Good luck Dr. Paul, you are fighting the good fight! Count on me.

Ron Paul is my rep in the US House. We got him during the redistricting of 2002 via Delay... Anyone that thinks Mr Paul has any creditability with the Republican Party is sadly mistaken. He does have a very small % of neo-nuts that gives the impression of widespread support. Anyone that gives the same status of Buchanan or Perot aka 'the little general' needs to have a drug screen or a mental health exam. He is no more a threat to the demos or repubs as Howdy Dowdy. In the next republican primary, he will be defeated. He will not even make it through the debates.

Paul only shares some views in common with Buchanan/Perot or rather they share some views in common with him. Paul is not an isoltaionists, but rather supports non-intervention. Meaning, while he does not support meddling in there affairs, he is fully supportive of free trade. And don't site his vote on NAFTA. That is the government version of free trade, not true free trade.

I have to disagree with you on the part of Ron Paul being the democrat's dream. In fact, I would say that for democrats, Ron Paul is their nightmare, as he is the one and only republican candidate capable of getting any liberals whatsoever to cross over and vote for him. The republican leadership is fooling itself if it thinks that a single democrat will vote any of the pro-war republicans running, and without any cross over voting at all, the republicans stand zero chance of winning the general election. I just wonder, if they continue to follow this failed strategy, how many house and senate seats will be lost as well.

Ron Paul has both the business-as-usual GOP and Dems running for their political lives. He's not in anyone's back pockets and would be the overall best candidate to bring the America of the past, back together. That's not in their agenda, if anyone hasn't noticed. In the Sunday Edition of the Detroit Free Press on the political news today there was no mention of the most recent flap at the MI GOP's leader to ban Ron Paul from ALL future debates. Nor was there any story about the 'correction' (not the apology that was deserving to Paul). Ron Paul is an un-invited guest to a party that's already got it all figured out. And what he's advocating is throwing a big monkey wrench into both parties plans. The Dems are praying the the Republicans can get rid of Ron Paul...or they're going to be stuck with half the $1B bill from Bloomberg's candidacy to distract voters away from Ron Paul. Watch for all the stops to be pulled out to get rid of this party-pooper, from bringing in professional actor Fred Thompson, to an all out media censorship across the board (except the internet).

Ron Paul is my second choice for the '2008 presidential race- right behind myself! He IS what RepublicanS USED TO stand for!! And I agree completely with the previous Liberal (sounded like one) responder regarding Mr. Paul's APPEAL to the "Cross-overs." I WILL VOTE FOR RON PAUL, his FAR REACHING knowledge of America's past and current involvement, as well as his apparent plans for our future involvement in foreign affairs alone gives me GREAT confidence in his leadership! Furthermore, maybe you, and other anti-Ron Paul reporters COMPLETELY MISSED IT WHEN MR. PAUL (IN A VERY UN-PAT BUCHANAN CHARACTER)STATED THAT HE (AS AMERICA'S PRESIDENT) WOULD HAVE GONE DIRECTLY AFTER THOSE WHO PLANNED THE 9-11 ATTACKS ON AMERICA IN '2001. HE DID NOT SAY THAT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN WASTING OUR RESOURCES TO BRING THE TRUE ATTACKERS TO JUSTICE!! P.S. I SUGGEST, AS MR. PAUL ALREADY SUGGESTED, THAT ALL OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES ACTUALLY READ THE 9-11 COMMISSION'S REPORT! HOW CAN WE EVEN HOPE TO TAKE PROPER STEPS IN PREVENTING ANOTHER 9-11-01, IF OUR NEXT PRESIDENT IS SO POORLY INFORMED AS THOSE SAD EXCUSES FOR REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL WANNA-BES AS ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING (RUNNING THEIR UNINFORMED MOUTHS)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, equally as important as America's future foreign policy, is the FACT that Mr. Paul is VERY WELL EDUCATED in the second most important area that a president NEEDS to successfully govern his FREE Nation- he is a GENIUS when it comes to America's past and present Financial afairs, and therefore too, his outlook for our future financial must dos also!! Inform yourself on the FACTS about Ron Paul, then make an INFORMED choice when you vote for our next Presidential Leader!! PRAY, TRUST GOD, NOT BUSH!

Looks like the establishment is getting nervous so they are looking to boot Ron Paul. But it's toooo late! The genie is out of the bottle and the working class is waking up to the game of perpetual war and perpetual fear so that Wall Street can have its profit mixed with American blood. Eisenhower warned us of a permanent military industrial complex and Ron Paul is the latest messenger. Since Rudy failed at his slam dunk of Ron Paul, look for a new Republican challenger to try the same.

Ron Paul would make a good Independent candidate. He could not get the nomination of either party but does represent a different point of view. He quite possibly a cross between Perot and Buchanann. Good point. One thing for sure. He speaks his mind. You don't have to agree with him to admire that. He is also for low taxes and small government. He could certainly shake things up since we started this election cycle way too early.

I think if Paul can make it through the primaries he has a good chance. I will change my part affiliation to Republican to vote in primaries for him. I am a liberal and I dont agree on some of his issues, but his stance on anti-imperialism and anti-intervention is enough to make me vote for him easily.

I think a big difference between Ron Paul and Ross Perot (beyond ideology) is that Paul actually wants to win. I really think Perot was never serious about winning, or he wouldn't have dropped out of the race when he was within striking distance like he did (I think that was 1996). I think Perot just wanted to stir up the national debate a bit, which he did.
As a long time Ron Paul and supporter, I can assure you, he's in it to win it. He wouldn't be running if he wasn't serious. He's an old man who loves this country, but he's already been very successful in his professional and personal life, and would probably rather be relaxing with his grandkids than running the country. But he seriously means what he says and wants to change the country.
I think, if someone else was worth supporting, he wouldn't be running. Unfortunately, though, nobody else on either side of the aisle is worth supporting at this time, especially if you really believe Paul's brand of limited-government libertarianism.

I also agree that Ron Paul is a Democratic (and media) nightmare. He completely shakes the idea, the platform that the Democrats are dying to run on: that Bush and Republicans have botched the war on terror and wasted the lives and money of the American people in Iraq.
There's a good article on why Paul would win the general election on Lew Rockwell's site.
Just a few things to consider: 2006 exit polls showed that Iraq, followed by corruption were the most important issues. CNN's polls have shown Iraq remain the most important issue, followed by healthcare. Paul fits these issues perfectly, due to his opposition to the war, his carreer and expertise as a medical Dr. and does anything really need to be said about Ron Paul and corruption?
