Sarah Palin Did The Wardrobe Dog

Written by: BayouBuzz Staff

Buzz Right Back----E-Mail a Friend----Print Page

Hockey Mom and Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin warned us she was a dog.

She just misled us as to the kind of dog.

Palin’s no “pit bull” with “lipstick.”  She is actually a Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

Like Chloe, the Chihuahua in Disney’s fable, Palin enjoys designer clothes, designer eyeglasses, high-line make-up and hair-do’s, matching luggage, and a bit of bling at all times.  And like Chloe (who has a wealthy owner), Palin didn’t pay.  Palin’s benefactor is reportedly the Republican National Committee (RNC), which legally paid for her grooming and tanning. But the expenses she billed for her family, her own pricey wardrobe, and at least 13 suitcases to carry it all away in are questionable under Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules.

Exactly how does the IRS classify a French pedicure as a campaign expense?  Are rimless Kawasaki Duo unisex eyeglasses and peekaboo toed Naughty Monkey red high heels legitimate business deductions?  When GOP lawyers figure it out, they can write a book on figuring income taxes that many, many women will buy.

I kid you not.

Palin and her brood entered a gray area by running up those bills.  Are the luxury geegaws and attire gifts?  Or are they types of income?  Can the RNC use campaign funds to pay for Palin’s hoard?

Palin is a failed candidate, and if she were a man, she’d likely have escaped scrutiny.  Usually, attention to spending only attaches once national office is achieved.  And then, it almost always attaches to the spouse.  Jacqueline Kennedy’s couture wardrobe and Mary Todd Lincoln’s extravagant sprees on 300 pairs of gloves only stirred public interest after their husbands’ elections to the presidency.  But unlike Palin, Jackie and Mary abused personal rather than party coffers.

What of women who are not wealthy?  Again, the women involved in fashion issues have been leaders’ wives.  The IRS investigated former First Lady Nancy Reagan’s collection of valuable Valentinos, de la Rentas, and impressive jewelry.  Although Nancy claimed she’d either “borrowed” or had been gifted these gowns from the designers, the IRS claimed Nancy’s luxuries were income, especially after James Galanos boasted that Nancy’s wearing his dresses had significantly boosted sales.  The IRS argued that the Reagans had benefited financially from elegant appearances, and claimed this benefit could be calculated and taxed even if Nancy gave the clothes back or donated them to the Smithsonian.  And questions arose about whether her freebies violated the Ethics in Government Act.

Rumor-mongers whispered that Nancy’s best friend, Betsy, wife of department store mogul Alfred Bloomingdale, had also helped Nancy acquire freebie designer attire.  Alfred briefly diverted attention from Nancy’s wardrobe by dying, after which his 18-year-old mistress filed a palimony lawsuit claiming that Alfred had showered her not only with love but with a costly wardrobe, jewelry, cosmetics, cars and matching luggage, all of which she needed more of.  While Alfred’s paramour was murdered shortly after announcing plans to write a sexy tellitall and claiming that she had videos of Alfred and influential GOPers to back it up, the Reagans’ story ended less dramatically: After years of wrangling, the IRS presented them with a back-tax bill in the low millions.

All of which goes to show that our grandmas were right when they warned us girls: “Never let a man buy you anything personal until you are engaged.  Or else, people will presume negative things about you.”  That is why, in “Pretty Woman,” the hotel manager tells Julia Roberts’ prostitute character to refer to her rich “benefactor” as her “uncle.”

It is socially acceptable for your husband and male relatives to spend $180,000 on frocks, jewels, beautification necessaries and coordinated baggage for you.  But not unrelated men.  People might think you’ve danced the hootchie-kootchie dance with some rich benefactor like Alfred Bloomingdale, and then they won’t vote for you.

And even if your benefactor turns out to be the RNC, well, what is the RNC anyway but a bunch of wealthy rich uncles?  And regardless of whether you have one rich uncle or a hundred, the IRS will find a way to make a federal case.

Palin, ever the barky Chihuahua, now blasts the evil “gotcha” media for reporting anonymous leaks that she is an ignorant, self-serving diva shopaholic.  Palin called her detractors “cowards” for hiding behind their anonymity.

For once, Palin got it right.  In an avowed democracy that has not lost its vitality, anonymity is for cowards.

But anonymity doesn’t mean that the cowards got it wrong.

A street-smart politico would have just stuffed a cute little Beverly Hills Chihuahua into one of Palin’s Vuitton handbags.  And when the GOP lawyers arrived to take back the Vuitton bag, Palin could protest, “But that is Kootchie Koo’s home!  And that stylish necklace is Kootchi Koo’s collar!”

Cue the dog, and let the cameras roll.  I bet they let her keep it all.

My "favorite" restaurant in the whole world, "Bangkok Cuisine," was next to R & B.... can't find another Thai Restaurant as good since the storm.... And- here's a true story::: We gave "Rock and Bowl" it's name.... Yup.. wrote and ran their first commercials saying, "Love Rock n Roll?.. Try Rock and Bowl....etc.".. The owner, John, changed the name after that (used to be Mid-City Lanes).. Ta Da.

Um... I'm male. One of many people who are social liberals but fiscal conservatives who always find themselves both pleased and displeased regardless of which party is in power. I'm wasn't joking last month about our wedding reception at the Rock & Bowl on the 25th, we had to pay for 175 people and we only had 80 to 100 people show up; the invite to the BuzzyBoard People was legit. Whatever, I have tomorrow off and tonight is Zydeco night at the R&B, so I'll get a wee bit tispy and do my "dancing bear at the Moscow circus" impersonation (unfortunately, that's the best this old fat honkey can dance) - and have a great time doing it. South Louisiana, gotta love that Cajun/Creole culture. No other place like it on earth.

"I am a blabbermouth, and should learn when to shut up. " LOL, kpf!!! I knew we had a lot in common....Don't hold back here!... (but, GAWD, Girl-- get down the aisle first.)..... I was a Registered Independent too-- until this year - finally "got off the fence" - for Hillary Clinton...consider myself a Conservative Democrat.

I only registered as an "R" in order to vote for libertarian Ron Paul this past primary (I was an "I" before then). I do support many stances in both parties, while opposing many other stances each party has. I do think people should be consistent in judging others. Just as our courts should be color blind, so too our individual "yardstick" that we measure politicians by should apply equally to members of both parties. Then again, I am a blabbermouth, and should learn when to shut up. A few months back I told my fiancé and future Mum-in-law that their criticism of Palin's lack of experience is hypocritical if they supported Hillary Clinton as a potential presidential candidate as early as 1992. This was not well received by these two (much beloved) pinkos... um... I mean liberals. I have no doubt that I am correct about this... but - in hindsight - I should limit such critical opinions to the coffee break area at work or this buzzy board. Ticking them off did not help me in any (I do mean ANY) aspect of my relationship with these two.

Dear KL, it would be so much more meaningful if one said it's "time to unite" when their side has lost the election, wouldn't it? As far as all the talk about Palin - even now, duh... the election's over - only shows how much her choice bothered the Dems. The Republicans really should have had Condi Rice on the ticket, even splitting the black and female votes a couple of percentage points would have been enough to win in all probability with McCain/Palin (old/dumb -sheesh) still managing to garner 46% of the popular vote. I do hope Obama is wise enough to govern ("rule" one of his aides said, what a dip$#it!) so that the country does come together. If not - and he makes that 46% of the voting populace feel their future is threatened - 2010 will not be a happy time for the Democratic Party as the percentage turnout for both blacks and youth probably hit their high-water mark in this election and won't ever be repeated.

Sarah Palin? Sarah Whalen?... <g> I get so confused. (Just "runnin' my mouth" -- like us "women do best"......Nat-- pick a rosy spot.. and kma)... But, the extravagant wardrobe is no big deal-- They have to pay Palin SOMETHING for all she did - Uprooted her family-- stopped business as usual, and worked full-time for the RNC- Heck, they owe her the clothes, and more. One happy Democrat here, who says, Let it go. Quit stirring the fires... time to unite.

DITTO Nat......sounds like jealousy to me. meow... I will never understand why some women just can not give their sisters the respect they deserve. I just finished reading "Sarah" by Kaylene Johnson. Sarah Palin is a woman who we should all be proud of. I seriously doubt Sarah Whalen bothered to find out anything about Gov. Palin before she wrote this piece $#@$

It must be really difficult for some women to compare their own lives to an achiever like SP. I don't say I blame them. After all, what's one to think of another WOMAN who MUST have gotten lucky to somehow become a mayor and then somehow overthrew hew own party's corrupted regime to become a governor( a popular governor)....take on the bully oil companies and win a huge one for her state. Oh, and did I tell you, go through 5 pregnancies and child births along the way? Oh,I forgot to mention, how about appearing only on the largest stage in the world, just weeks after becoming the V/P candidate, totally out of her natural environment, and somehow going toe to toe with a 35 year veteran in the senate, known for his debate skills and actually more than hold her own, with the whole world watching? Yeah, how did such a "DUMB" woman get so lucky? I think I have it figured out. Some woman actually achieve against all odds, by being very secure, and run things like city or state governments. And then some women do what they do best.....run their mouths!

Sarah Whalen has just proven to me that she is a hack. Spreading such gossip is unprofessional to say the least. There are no facts in this piece of drivel.

Wailin Sarah says: "After years of wrangling, the IRS presented (the Reagans) with a back-tax bill in the low millions." On what authority does she rely in this allegation, and to the extent it may even be partially true, but in grossly inflated amounts, what does that have to do with reality? I have represented clients in cases where the IRS has asserted theories supporting literally millions of dollars of additional proposed taxes, and after all the sound and fury had run its course, only peanuts were paid. The government auditors, like Wailin Sarah, are usually so detatched from reality in this type of case, that in the end the very absurdity of their utterences is their own undoing. And again, when Wailen asserts that the admission by the clothiers that the celebrities wearing of their clothes enhanced their sales actualy does more to disprove than to support her own allegations: The clothiers' motive in having the celebrity wearing their clothes derives not from a donative or compensatory intent, but rather because of the advertising value it brings to the clothier, in much the same way and result as a model plays in a fashion show. In the end, the celebrity wearing the clothes, followed by their being returned or given to charity, results in no more income to the wearer than the rental value of their use for the one occasion on which theiy were worn. (And in the case of Sarah Palin, she reprotedly did not ask for the clothing, more than a third and something closer to half of the clothing purchased for her and her children by the campaign was reportedly either the wrong size, was returned without ever being worn, or was returned aftr being worn once or no more than twice. So once again, the fourth estate and its Wailen Sarah are in the end shown as nothing more than blowhards with a blank canvass on a slow Monday morning.

It's absolutely funny that the GOP has to find a minority canidate. Are they no more good ole boys with a high enough IQ? I would love to see Palin run. And for those that think the press was hard on her, think again. She was an idiot that was hard on herself. And besides, the press got on both John Edwards for his $500 buck haircut and Clinton for blocking an airport to get a haircut. Hunting from a helicopter never looked so good.

Talk about obsession - the author of this column is obssessed with Sarah Palin. The fact of the matter is that not only did she look good but she could hold her own with many. Now, let's cut to the chase. That little item that Mrs. Obama wore the night of the election was not quite classy in our opinions. In fact, she may have needed a larger size.

Okay, you can stop with the Palin fetish. I think we would all be shocked to find out how much was spent on wardrobes for Biden, PE Obama, Michelle Obama, etc. Heck Biden even had Botox injected in his brow. Who paid for that? Who cares! I have read that the Palin clothes have been returned and/or used for charity events. Why are clothes a topic for discussion? Is it a ploy to get people off the issues?

No, all of that stuff is RNP property, and it is sitting in some RNP storeroom somewhere... Guess they are going to auction it off for charity or something, who knows?, who cares... For the people that sent $10.00 and is ticked off they spent that $10.00 on clothes, no, they spent that $10.00 on McCain/Palin posters for the rallies.... or town hall mettings, or whatever you want to call it. And for the people that sent $10.00 so she could look all celebrity, which was what this stupid campaign was all about, well, those were spent on some really high end fashion, and I am sure that the RNP is grateful for the dontations..... Now that Palin is old news, perhaps you can get on with some better topics that are at least of some remote interest....
