When Republican leaders in Congress now appear before television cameras, they bring new meaning to the term “deer in the headlights.” The 2008 Congressional elections were never expected to be good ones for the GOP. Recent election trends indicate that, instead of merely being bad, the fall elections may be catastrophic for Republicans.
The first shock wave came when the special election to fill the seat of former Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert resulted in a Democrat winning in what had been a safe Republican seat. Earlier this month, the election to fill Rep. Richard Baker’s seat—one that had been in the GOP fold for over 30 years—went to Democratic state representative, Don Cazayoux. The final piece of the Democratic trifecta came on May 13 in the special election in Mississippi to fill the seat of recently retired Republican Congressman Roger Wicker. That conservative district also sent a Democrat to Washington.
Now the alarm bells are ringing loudly in Republican caucus rooms on Capitol Hill. The Democrats are approaching a 40-seat advantage in the House. Unless something changes the current election trend, that margin could swell to 55 seats or more. If relatively safe seats like those recently contested in Louisiana and Mississippi can be lost, there may not be many safe seats left for Republicans.
The situation in the Senate isn’t much better. Currently, 51 senators are either Democrats or caucus with them, and 49 seats are held by Republicans. Only 12 Democrats are up for re-election next fall, and only one (Mary Landrieu of Louisiana) is expected to have serious opposition. In contrast, over 20 Republican seats are being contested—several of them without an incumbent running—and many of them will be seriously contested. When all is said and done, the current 51-49 Democratic majority could easily swell to 57-43—or worse.
There are many factors at play in the demise of GOP fortunes, but the wounds are mainly self-inflicted. Numerous scandals have plagued Republican members of Congress—often at high levels—since the 2000 elections. The party of fiscal conservatism and limited government has been anything but in the minds of many voters who subscribe to those views. The proliferation of congressional “earmarks” during the time the GOP controlled Congress offended many conservatives and independents. Even the backlash against the war in Iraq is fueled to some degree over the question of how much it costs and how nothing is being offset in the massive federal budget to pay for it.
It would be nothing short of a miracle at this point if the GOP lost only a handful of seats in the House or only one or two in the Senate. But what will also be interesting—particularly on the House side—is how some of the winners are going to square their campaign promises with reality if the Democrats succeed in building huge majorities in Congress. The recent upsets were won primarily by Democrats who ran pro-gun, pro-choice, “Pelosi-and-Obama-Who?” campaigns. Those self-proclaimed conservatives will join the “Blue Dog” coalition of moderate Democrats who, so far, have found it hard to buck the liberal party leadership on most issues. Democrats who campaign as conservatives but toe the line of the liberal party leadership will enjoy only a brief honeymoon in Congress. They will live the unpleasant experience of being constantly pulled between a leadership they ran away from in their campaigns and districts that bought the claim that they were reasonable conservative alternatives to Republicans who had gone astray.

The republican leaders have shown they are not listening to the voters anymore. That is because of two things, one they have so many ex-democrats in office as
republicans, 2 They think most people will just keep voting the republican base
no matter what they do . So until the republican voters let the party know they have had enough and will no longer vote for a man just because the other candidate might suck worse than the republican one, they will have no reason to change.
Just giving you something to think about and only the voters have the power to force change are just keep going along with the direction their party is going in.

The republicans are losing because they threw away everything they said they believed in. All they can do is make false rumors about the democrat candidate in any race, because they can not give any real reasons for someone to vote republican. You better vote for the sucky republican because the democrat might suck worse than the republican. Take mccain and the woman's vote, he has nothing to offer them. The republican party wants complete control of your body and the republicans support using Ladies for hookers as Vitter has proved. No to gay marriage but as with senator Larry Craig we support gay sex in the public bathrooms. You must vote republican because we will cut spending even though Bush and Jindal have spent more than any other person in their jobs in the history
of this country. Wake up the real republicans have left the building and the republican voters supported putting con men in their place. Written by Diaperman

They do not stand for anything, and they change their positions on issues in direct correlation to the latest polls. They only do what's popular because they lack the integrity and bravery to go in a different direction. They are intolerable of any religion or morsel of spirituality. They do not believe in justice. They blame the criminal's environment when he goes on a killing spree. They do not believe that he should be executed, just as he executed his victims. They believe in sending money to any country or region but their own, africa, tibet, etc. They are more sympathetic to terrorist nations than they are to the U.S. They are anti military but as soon as we are in danger they need the military to save their asses. They believe in change, just for the sake of change. They do not represent family values, or morality, but they pretend to be concerned about the environment. What they really care about is money, and themselves. And maybe their gay partner. But that's about it. You'll never see them volunteering at the homeless shelter or sending aid for hurricane relief. But you will see them adopting kids from africa to add to their collection, kind of like accessorizing. Liberals are not capable of making logical decisions, it is always based on emotions. They pretend to be enlightened but really they are in the dark. Sad thing is, they don't know it, nor will they ever. There's such thing as being so full of shit for so long, that you become blind to the truth. THey just live their lives, promoting one liberal cause after another, but getting nowhere. Their support for gay marriage, their rejection of offshore drilling, their support of affirmative action, their rejection of the death penalty, their support for abortion, their pro-illegal immigration stance, their favoring of higher taxes to promote failed social programs, and their constant criticism of america and what it stands for, in favor of our enemies, tells me all I need to know about them. Don't even bother arguing, all you liberals are the same, and 100 percent of you hold the stances 100 percent of the time. So predictable. Conservatives are the only hope for the future. Liberals destroy society. Look at detroit, los angeles, chicago, new jersey. Liberal politics do not work. They only create bottom feeders that become co-dependent on social programs that they falsely report needing. It creates generations of people that learn that by making excuses and playing the blame game, they can enjoy a lazy lifestyle. Will los angeles ever be like simi valley? One can only wish, but unfortunately, it never will be. Liberals are traitors to their own country, and they will never be stopped. Satan has taken control of their minds and hearts. And it's over. An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession....... Like many young men his age, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it.... One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment....... He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects.--- 1. A bible.-- 2. A silver dollar.--- 3. A bottle of whisky.--- 4. And a Playboy magazine...... "I'll just hide behind the door," the old preacher said to himself. "When he comes home from school today, I'll see which object he picks up. If it's the bible, he's going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be!.... If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a business man, and that would be okay, too....... But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to be a no-good drunken bum, and Lord, what a shame that would be........ And worst of all if he picks up that magazine he's going to be a skirt-chasing womanizer."................
The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son's foot-steps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room....... The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table...... With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them..... Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm.... He picked up the silver dollar and dropped into his pocket...... He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink while he admired the centerfold in the magazine............................ "Lord have mercy," the old preacher disgustedly whispered...... "He's gonna' run for Congress." Sad thing about it Diaperman, the preacher was a democrat...... Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha.....

Mr. Holton, that's a lot to give me! Reading your information, I realized how much we are dependent on other people's information. You quote at length, as I do, yet we know about events only through the media. I was finally persuaded of the disconnect between Saddam and Al-Quaeda by an article from Walter Pincus and Dana Milbank in The Washington Post in June of 2004: "The September 11 Commission reported yesterday that it has found no collaborative relationship' between Iraq and al Qaeda, challenging one of the Bush administration's main justifications for the war in Iraq." Since I had already judged it unreasonable for a secular leader like Saddam to collaborate with Muslims, I found the September 11 Commission report convincing. It fit neatly with my own expectations. . . . Likewise, I had read General Smedley Butler and knew that Wall Street financiers had actually plotted to overthrow President Roosevelt and the government of the United States in 1933, so it was plausible to me that George Bush and the present administration could be financed by Wall Street in its pursuit of oil and power in the Middle East. With that expectation in mind, I concluded that the attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan had nothing to do with "Muslim extremists", who were serving as pretexts for a war of aggression, and the attacks had everything to do with the intention of Wall Street and the leading financiers of the world to dominate Middle Eastern oil reserves. . . . At that point, my thinking has become personal. Why should my way of life depend on the domination of people I don't even know? What in the American Way of Life requires war to sustain it? For me, the answer has been that I can change my way of life and become independent of the need for war and domination. I don't need an SUV to pursue happiness. The country will NOT fall apart without oil. We will, however, have to change. Written by Robert Desmarais Sullivan

Dear Mr. Sullivan, this ones for you: The Truth About Saddam and Terrorism.......
Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had extensive ties to terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda, according to an official report published by the Pentagon’s Institute for Defense Analyses and released through the Joint Forces Command..... That report, Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents, came up with some startling revelations in its 59 pages:... • Saddam’s Iraq trained terrorists for use inside and outside Iraq and in 1999 sent 10 terrorist-training graduates to London to carry out attacks throughout Europe. (Page 1).... • Saddam’s Iraq stockpiled munitions (including explosives, missile launchers and silencer-equipped small arms) at its embassies in the Middle East, Asia and parts of Europe. (Pages 3-4)..... • In September of 2001, Saddam’s Iraq sought out and compiled a list of 43 suicide-bomb volunteers in a “Martyrdom Project.” (Pages 7-8)..... • The report contains language from a captured Iraqi document which references an attempted assassination of Danielle Mitterand, wife of French President Francois Mitterand, by car bomb. (Page 11).... • The report’s authors describe Saddam’s Iraq as a “long-standing supporter of international terrorism” including several organizations designated as international terrorist organizations by the US State Department. (Page 13).... • Among the organizations that captured Iraqi documents indicate were supported by Saddam’s Iraq were: (Pages 13-15)..... > Fatah-Revolutionary Council (Abu Nidal Organization). (Author’s note: Abu Nidal was generally considered the world’s most dangerous terrorist in the late 1980s.).... > Palestine Liberation Front (led by Abu al-Abbas). (Author’s note: Abbas was the mastermind of the Achille Lauro hijacking and the murderer of American Leon Klinghoffer.)..... > Renewal and Jihad Organization, which the Iraqi documents describe as a “Secret Islamic Palestinian Organization” that “believes in armed jihad against the Americans and Western interests.”..... > Islamic Ulama Group, a radical Islamist group in northern Pakistan..... > The Afghani Islamic Party, led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. (Author’s note: Hekmatyar is an Afghan mujahideen warlord who is worked with Osama Bin Laden during the 1990s. US intelligence agencies have lost track of Hekmatyar, but believe that he was trying to join Al Qaeda in 2002 when he released a video message calling for armed jihad against the United States. Reports from BBC-TV and CNN claim that Hekmatyar helped Osama Bin Laden escape from Tora Bora in 2002..... > Islamic Jihad Organization (Egyptian Islamic Jihad). This is perhaps the most startling revelation in the report. Egyptian Islamic Jihad was founded and led by Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri, now Al Qaeda’s co-leader. The group is most infamous for the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. Zawahiri is known to have worked in the Al Qaeda organization since its inception, while he was still leader of Egyptian Islamic Jihad in fact. Al Qaeda was started around 1989 and Zawahiri is said to have been a senior member from its earliest days. He was present in Afghanistan with Bin Laden at the time and later he was in Sudan with Bin Laden until being expelled in 1996 and eventually returning to Afghanistan. In 1998, Zawahiri formally merged Egyptian Islamic Jihad with Al Qaeda and has served as co-leader of Al Qaeda ever since. Iraq’s relationship with Egyptian Islamic Jihad was so close that captured documents indicate that Iraq was able to request that the group hold off on operations against the regime in Egypt in 1993..... In other words, Saddam’s Iraq had a longstanding relationship with the co-leader of Al Qaeda..... • Captured documents show that Saddam’s Iraq was training non-Iraqis in Iraqi training camps a decade before Operation Desert Storm, including fighters from the following nations: Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Syria, Eritrea, and Morroco. (Pages 15-16)..... • A captured memorandum shows that Saddam’s Iraq had an agreement with an Islamist terrorist group to conduct operations against Egypt during the first Gulf War. (Page 16)... • A detailed, captured document from 1993 “illuminated how the outwardly secular Saddam regime found common cause with terrorist groups who drew their inspiration from radical Islam.” (Page 17).... • In January 1993, as the American military’s humanitarian mission was begun in Somalia, Saddam directed that Iraq “form a group to start hunting Americans present on Arab soil, especially Somalia.” (Page 18) Interestingly, Osama Bin Laden was setting up identical operations at the same time. ..... • Saddam’s secret intelligence service (IIS) hosted 13 conferences in 2002 for various terrorist groups. (Page 19)..... • Captured Iraqi documents say that the IIS issued passports to known members of terrorist groups. (Page 19).... • Saddam’s Iraq had close ties and provided funding to Hamas, the Palestinian jihadist organization. Captured documents indicate that Hamas offered to carry out attacks for Saddam’s Iraq in return for his support. In fact, Hamas representatives informed the Iraqis that the organization had 35 armed cells around the world hidden among refugees, including in France, Sweden and Denmark. (Pages 24-25)..... • Saddam’s IIS manufactured bombs in the early 1990s for terrorist Abu Abbas to conduct attacks against American and other interests. Three instances of these bombs failing are evidently the only thing that prevented terrorist attacks against these interests: (Page 30)..... “A bomb intended to destroy the American ambassador’s residence in Jakarta, Indonesia failed.”..... “Bombs designed to destroy the American Airlines office and Japanese embassy in the Philippines exploded prematurely and damaged only the front of the office, while killing one and wounding another of the terrorists transporting the explosives.”.... • Saddam’s Iraq carried out terrorist attacks on members of humanitarian organizations operating in the Kurdish areas of Northern Iraq, including Doctors Without Borders, Handicap International and UN-affiliated organizations. (Pages 31-33).... • The IIS was willing to reach out to jihadist terrorist groups, including those known to be affiliated with Al Qaeda. This includes the “Army of Muhammad” in Bahrain, which had threatened Kuwaiti authorities and had plans to attack American and Western interests. (Pages 35-36)..... • The report concludes with the following question: “Is there anything in the captured archives to indicate that Saddam had the will to use his terrorist capabilities directly against the United States?” The Institute for Defense Analyses then provides the answer: .... Yes.... Conclusion ... Those who claim that Saddam had no “direct, operational ties” to Al Qaeda are attempting to narrow the definition of “terrorist-sponsoring nation” to an impossible scope. By this definition, a nation, like Saddam’s Iraq, can provide money, arms, safe haven and cooperation to jihadist terrorist groups and not have “direct, operational ties” to terrorists. ..... This was never the standard by which a nation found itself on the US State Department’s list of terrorist-sponsoring nations and implies that, unless a dictator is found directly ordering a terrorist attack, that dictator cannot be considered as linked to a terrorist group..... The “direct, operational ties” standard was invented after the overthrow of Saddam and is a ridiculous standard that can never be met.... Five years after United States forces overthrew Saddam Hussein, the Pentagon has produced a blockbuster report that has been both misrepresented and ignored. That report shows that Saddam’s Iraq had extensive ties to international terrorist groups, both Islamist and secular, including organizations that were part of Al Qaeda. No ginned up definition invented for domestic political consumption can change the truth. ....

Have you noticed that no one is talking about impeachment? Have you seen even a quick spot about impeachment on TV? When Clinton was impeached for hesitating to talk about his sex life, Limbaugh judged him without waiting for the Senate to act, and we spent millions of dollars and thousands of hours in a sordid, embarrassing preoccupation with wet stains on a lady's dress. Though Bush has taken more powers to himself than King George III ever had and when we tolerate this situation, almost with a relief that we don't have to bother our pretty little heads with such nasty things as taking responsibility for killing and maiming other people's children, the press reports on Paris Hilton and the latest reality show. Reality? What is reality in America? Can I live in America and become the man I want to become? At this time, I don`t feel safe in America. I feel fear. So many of my fellow citizens live in an unreal space, disconnected from the consequences of their own actions like a paranoid schizophrenic. The world will bring us to reality, if we don't go there ourselves. If enough of us act, we will go there with a minimum of destruction. If not, we will be destroyed as Germany and Japan were destroyed. They too had formidable military machines, but it was not enough to overcome the anger of those allied against them.

The Farm Bill is a big indicator of what the country is in for. Democrats and republican vote panderers have turned that into one of the biggest vote-buying bills ever passed. Free money for everyone from corporate farmers to welfare recipients. Plain old middle class taxpayers with real jobs get to foot the bill again. And this is just the tip of the iceberg once the larger democratic majority prevails in congress. Since fiscal responsibility is considered evil, looks like it's time to just jump on the bandwagon. Find some programs that congress can use to buy the white middle class votes with too. Just float an idea out there and they'll jump on it for sure. You'll probably only get pennies back on the tax dollars you lose, but hey, pennies are better than nothing. Let's get everyone on the government dole. Written by ralphie
