The U.S. Supreme Court today has declined to hear an appeal involving the FBI's search of the Capitol Hill offices of Congressman William Jefferson giving Jefferson a major victory.
Previously, a federal appeals court ruled that the FBI wrongly used its own agents look through the material seized to determine what might be covered by congressional privilege. However, prosecutors claim they have sufficient evidence independent of the search including cash in his freezer unrelated to the search.
Jefferson won re-election last year despite the legal controverseries.
