The eye of Hurricane Ike, a Category two storm officially hit Galveston Texas according to various news reports quoting the National Hurricane center.  The storm has flooded much of the Galveston and according to CNN, over 1.3 million customers in Houston are without power.  The eye of the storm hit Galveston around 2:10 am on Sunday and the damage has even had impact upon Louisiana.

According to CNN, “To the east, at least 1,800 homes and businesses were flooded by storm surge in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. And six feet of flood water rushed into the town of Lafitte in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish, said Chris Macaluso of Louisiana's Office of Coastal Restoration. “

According to various news reports, the hurricane has the force of a low Category three hurricane since the wind speeds were only one mile per hour less than the Category three wind criteria.

Various news reports also say that more damage is expected in Houston Texas and in Western Louisiana since the storm is so broad and powerful.

Bayoubuzz will update its site throughout the day as the vicious hurricane is expected to  cause significant damage to Texas and in various parts of Louisiana.

The Northwestern corner of LA has experienced power outages, and a friend who works up there said that the hotels (full w Ike evacuees) have lost power. She left to go to Vicksburg so as to continue work on a PC there. She hasn't been able to get through to contacts in Shreveport.
