It has been a bloody weekend in Iraq as a suicide car bomber hit a northern Iraqi marketplace in killing well over one hundred people on Saturday morning.  The truck was full of explosives and detonated in Amerli which is approximately 100 miles north of Baghdad.  Hundreds of others have been wounded by the blast.

Due to the placement of the bombing, it appears that the Sunnis are bombing away from the area covered by the surge in its attack of a Shiite and Kurd-dominated  area.

On Friday, in Diyala province, bombers killed 48 people and 12 US troops were killed on Thursday and Friday.
