sinkhole decDear Bayoubuzz Publisher,

I have followed your publication for many years. During the campaign for governor I kept reading with amusement the posts of Professor Sadow. In almost every instance he is an apologist for those in and out of government who are proponents of Tort Reform or are just plain anti trial lawyer.

jindal runOn the same day that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal communications office announced that he will be traveling to Alexandria to highlight what his offfice calls the " economic development success of the region" and meet with local employees of Crest Industries, the Louisiana Democratic Party issued the following statement, that questions the veracity of Jindal's claim:

louisiana capital 3Incoming Gov. John Bel Edwards throughout his campaign tried to distance himself from his image as a wild-eyed liberal. Yet leopards don’t change their spots, as a recent comment of his validated.

cruzWhile it might not be a direct contradiction to what Ted Cruz has told America regarding his positions on Gay Marriage, the recent audio of Ted Cruz does question his conservative bonafides.

factor trump

Just why is Donald Trump resonating so well in US political theater?

Perhaps, it is because the blue-collar men, guys who have nothing in common with The Donald at all, feel he is one of them.

dumFor decades, the Louisiana Legislature has been a puppet of the Governor, a mere extension of the power of the executive branch instead of an independent political body with separate powers. Governors from Huey Long to Bobby Jindal have called the shots regarding legislative initiatives and leadership.

Our new Governor, John Bel Edwards, is no exception and he has already indicated his choice for the next House Speaker, Walt Leger (D-New Orleans). The problem is that Leger, while a bright and respected legislator, is definitely to the ideological left of not only most House members, but also most of the voters of Louisiana.

It looks as though Bobby Jindal’s former commissioner of administration Kristy Nichols will finally have to comply with state regulations. Or maybe not.

The Louisiana Board of Ethics, in typical fashion first put the kibosh on any effort by Kristy Kreme to lobby state government on behalf of her new employer—and then promptly withdrew the opinion.

trump compressedYesterday, during a public appearance, Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton, a liar.

Today, FactCheck.org, has a name for Trump: The King of Whoppers.
In their end of the year article, Factcheck.org writes:

finksby Jim W. Miller
NFL teams are filled with stories, most of them about good and bad coaches, good and bad players, and general managers whose reputations are determined by how many of each they hire. But one guy whose head is usually just beneath the line of fire is the public relations director, or “PR” man.

lagop damageSome political notes to runinate over some holiday egg-nog and rum:

gov mansion xmasAs Governor Bobby Jindal prances across the State of Louisiana, promoting the good work he says he has done for the state of Louisiana, another statistic has been released as evidence that things are not all what the outgoing governor claims.

jindal angryLouisiana Governor-elect, Jon Bel Edwards has moved against the policies of Governor Bobby Jindal on the issue of SNAP food benefits.

mass2On July 4, 1778, George Washington doubled liquor rations for the soldiers quartered in Princeton, NJ, as a way to celebrate Independence Day. It’s fitting, therefore, that the Fourth of July is America's top-selling beer holiday, according to the Beer Institute. It estimated, in 2013, that sales of beer on the 4th could total $1 billion, doubtlessly higher today. “In moderation,” claims a CA brewery investor, Grover McKean, “beer is tasty and healthy.” Who could disagree?

joe mikaAs Donald Trump faces the top world leaders this week, including a face-time with Vladimir Putin, and as his healthcare proposals face an uphill climb, his poll numbers for how the nation views him could be better.

According to a morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday morning, his tweets, including that against MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski, and his personality are not helping him, at all.

indy dayII know the calendar says we are approaching the 4th of July, but, it just doesn’t feel like Independence Day.

Perhaps it should.  It’s hot as heck.  The airlines have been packed. The hot dogs are ready for grilling.  The umps are saying, "play ball". The patriotic activities are scheduled. The fireworks are ready-for-blasting.

Yet, it just doesn’t feel like independence day.

bill rights2To President Thomas Jefferson, July 4th celebrated more than the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He thought it was a link to the future. The message prominent colonists sent to King George III led to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the initial and most prominent feature of which is the First Amendment that guarantees free speech. It’s part of the country’s fundamental essence that each man and woman can say what they feel about government, or anything else, proving President Donald Trump needs some civics lessons.
