6th District voters talk about Edwin Edwards' chances

BATON ROUGE, LA (WVUE) - The head of the state Republican Party is blasting Edwin Edwards' decision to run for Louisiana's 6th congressional seat, but whether you call him the Silver Fox, or the former felon - he's back.

"I haven't had this much attention since the trial," Edwards quipped before the Baton Rouge Press Club.

Edwards announced his candidacy for a district that extends as far east as Laplace, where reaction to his announcement was largely favorable.

"I don't think he's any crookeder than the rest," said Priscilla Bertucci of Laplace.

William Massengill added, "He might have done stuff he wasn't supposed to do, but he didn't do nothing any other politician doesn't do."

Others aren't so sure.

"I think he's a good man, but he did that wrong, and I won't vote for him," said Roy Vicknair.
