Written by

Louisiana Business: Keeping the New Orleans Hornets, the business of heavy traffic in Jefferson Parish, from JIndal to Haley--the Assistant Secretary of Louisiana Health and Hospitals appears to be moving to North Carolina.

New Orleans Hornets

In response to an attempt to keep the New Orleans Hornets,  The Young Leadership Council, the GNO, Inc. NextGen Council, and Urban League Young Professionals have pledged a combined total of $3,000 toward ticket purchases which they will leverage for a “Buy One, Get One” promotion.  The tickets will be good for the January 5 game against the Golden State Warriors and the January 17 game against the Toronto Raptors.

Combined with the ticket promotion will be special admission to a pre-game party starting at 5:30 pm prior to the January 5 game at Capdeville, a bar at 520 Capdeville Street near the New Orleans Arena. The party will feature free NOLA Brewing Company beer for all those who show their specially-purchased tickets for the January 5 game, and that’s where they will receive their free tickets for the January 17 game.

Additional young professional groups are supporting and promoting the pre-game party and ticket package, as well as other multi-game ticket packages being offered by the New Orleans Hornets. These groups include the following: 504ward, Dear New Orleans/Evacuteer, Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association, Puentes New Orleans, and PlayNOLA.

“The young professional community is linking arms to keep the Hornets where they belong - in New Orleans,” said Joseph Giarrusso, III, President of the Young Leadership Council.  “We intend to significantly affect attendance goals and raise awareness of the importance of attending Hornets games.”

The New Orleans Hornets are important to the city’s economy and national perception.  In 2008, the Hornets hosted the NBA All-Star Game and showcased southeastern Louisiana to the world.

Those interested in purchasing tickets to the January 5 game through this special promotion should contact the Young Leadership Council at (504) 585-1500.

Construction being done by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Protection Restoration Office will require a temporary southbound lane closure of Causeway Blvd. for eleven days.

Corps of Engineers: Business of Traffic

Having trouble driving to and from business lately in Jefferson Parish?  Well, traffic in the busiest part of Jefferson Parish could could be getting worse. The US Army Corps of Engineeers has released this statement: The south bound lanes of Causeway Blvd. will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes from the foot of the Causeway to 6th St. beginning 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 6, through Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. for underground utility work.  There will be no changes to the traffic patterns south of 6th St.  To minimize traffic delays Jefferson Parish has agreed to adjust the timing of the light at 6th St.

The Causeway risk reduction project is an integral part of the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and will reduce risk for residents and businesses on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain from a storm surge event that has a one percent chance of occurring each year.

From Jindal To Haley

South Governor-elect Nikki Haley announced Tuesday she is naming Anthony E. Keck as the next Director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Keck is currently the Deputy Secretary of Louisiana's Department of Health & Hospitals and served as Interim Secretary of Louisiana's DHH last year.

"We searched across the country for an expert in health care reform," said Gov.-elect Haley. "I wanted someone who understands that South Carolina will not be a victim to health care mandates pushed down by Washington, but instead we will be proactive and fight to create reforms that serve tax payers without compromising on quality of care. We found that person - and his name is Tony Keck."

Is the job-switch a coincidence? Haley is the first American-Inndian woman governor in America and Governor bobby Jindal has been the first Indian American governor.
