 Let's Fill The Arena

The Hornets will go for their ninth straight victory as they face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday night at 7PM. This will be the third match-up this season between the two teams.
MONDAY, JANUARY 24, 2011
New Orleans Arena, New Orleans, LA
New Orleans (29-16) matched its longest winning streak of the season with a 96-72 home victory over San Antonio on Saturday. Coming off a 100-59 victory at Atlanta the previous night, the Hornets held the league-leading Spurs to their fewest points of the season, including 12 in the opening quarter and 10 in the third. They led by as many as 31 points.
The eight-game winning streak has pulled New Orleans within percentage points of Dallas for fourth place in the Western Conference and second in the Southwest Division. The Hornets haven't won nine straight since Jan. 11-28, 2008

The premier art museum in the Gulf South and the city's oldest fine
arts institution, the New Orleans Museum of Art continues to exhibit,
interpret and preserve works of art from ancient to modern times. Its
permanent collection is noted for its extraordinary strengths in
French and American art, photography, glass, African and Japanese
works. NOMA has also developed a unique Arts of the Americas
collection, surveying the cultural heritage of North, Central and
South America from the pre-Columbian period through the Spanish
Colonial era.

Captain Louie is the story of a young boy on Halloween night who escapes into his own imagination as a means of coping with the loneliness he feels when he moves to a new neighborhood. Of its initial production, The New York Times said Captain Louie captures "the sound and rhythm of music that runs through childhood fantasies with a book that conveys the communicative magic of the original story."
The story is full of tricks and treats, and the incomparable music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin). Most of all, Captain Louie is about friendship -- the ability to make new friends and the importance of old ones.

The production will also be on stage Saturday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Benet Hall, Saint Joseph Abbey in Covington, LA..
"Uncle" Wayne Daigrepont is back in the "habit" to direct heavenly hi-jinks with Alan Payne as musical director and Lindsey Price as choreographer. This time, the nuns are joined by a Jewish brother on the high seas of comedy in this reincarnation of the popular Nunsense franchise! MESHUGGAH-NUNS stars, MELINDA TALIANCICH FALGOUST, KATHERINE McCLAIN, AEA, VALERIE ST. AMANT, KAREN BRADSHAW and MATT STANDLEY. You don't have to be Catholic! You don't have to be Jewish! After a week at sea the ship runs into a storm and several people become ill, including all the entertainers who happen to be the cast of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. All the entertainers on board except the actor playing Tevye (Matt Standley) fall sick! The captain of the ship, knowing of the Sisters' show biz savvy, requests that the Sisters and Tevye put on a revue. The result is MESHUGGAH-NUNS!The Ecumenical Nunsense! Hilarity reigns supreme with songs like Say It In Yiddish, Contrition, In the Convent and If I Were a Catholic. From Sister Amnesia's attempt at magic to the sing-along Fiddlerspiel, this show is a boatload of comedy and fun!

LAST CHANCE
FINAL NOTICE, aka LAST HARASSMENT
THE DIRTY PARTS
THIS Friday, January 28, 2011
9:00pm at The Allways Lounge
(2240 St. Claude -The Marigny)

Tony O'Neill will read the most vile scenes from his 2010 novel, SICK
CITY- plus from a work-in-progess. He will be joined by eclectic New
Orleans performers - Ratty Scurvics, Ooops the Clown, Trixie Minx,
Bella Blue from Fleur de Tease and J.Lloyd Miller from The Bingo Show.
The night will be hosted by poety-slam MC, Nick Fox. Copies of Tony's
novels will be on sale from Lee Ware, in the guise of a cigarette girl
from 1940's clubs, holding a book ladened tray and asking "Sick City?
Down and Out? Sick City?"

There will be a $7.00 cover charge, 100% of which goes to the
performers (less Tony, who merely wishes to share the darker shades of
his muse). If that $7.00 is the make or break in attending the show, I
do know The Guy who handles The List (that being me) and can, if
necessary, get you on the comp list ... if you're comfortable taking
money from a poor clown.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL
Tony will also have his "official" and less dirty reading as a part of
The 1718 Reading Series at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles - Tuesday,
February 1st at 7:00pm

His "official" bookstore signing will be at Octavia Books (Octavia &
Laurel) - Saturday, Jan 29th at 6:00pm. And two drop-in signings,
Saturday at 1:00pm The Maple Street Bookshop and Sunday 2:30pm at The
Faulkner House Bookstore.

Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts
Special NOBA commissioned world premiere

Purchase Tickets
NOBA is thrilled to reunite two remarkable creative forces, Trey McIntyre Project and Preservation Hall Jazz Band, in an extraordinary world premiere event. TMP is a prolific American force on the international dance scene. PHJB, currently celebrating its 50th Anniversary, is the legendary champion of New Orleans jazz. Together, and for one night only, ten phenomenal dancers will unite with seven illustrious musicians in a world premiere experience that will include an exclusive encore main stage presentation of Ma Maison.

Creative Collabortion
When Trey McIntyre launched his new company rooted in classical ballet and blasted onto the international dance scene in 2008, NOBA invited this trailblazing choreographer, known for his hip and contemporary dances, to create a new work set to New Orleans jazz music. The result was Ma Maison, the critically-acclaimed collaboration with PHJB that has toured the world to rave reviews, including a recent special appearance at the Hollywood Bowl that was hailed as "shockingly powerful" and "one of the most stunning performances all year" by The LAist.
