Super Bowl Tickets, Get Them While They're Not
Written by

Ed Staton--Louisiana SportsSuper Bowl Notes: As of Monday, there were 1,907 Super Bowl tickets available on StubHub.com--with prices running from $2,501 for a seat in the upper corner above the end  zone at Cowboys Stadium to $22,223 for a lower-level seat on the 50-yard line. Those are the asking prices, however, and there's no guarantee they will command that much. The face value of tickets is $600 and $800 for sets in the upper bowl, $900 for seats in the lower bowl and $1,200 for club seats. Sales on secondary market are where prices skyrocket. The NFL distributes 17.5 per cent of the tickets to each the Steelers and the Packers; 5 per cent to the Cowboys, the host team; 1.2 per cent to each of the remaining 29 teams; and 25.2 per cent to the league...

According to StubHub, people began buying Super Bowl tickets on the site as early as last summer, at an average price of $3,678. Prior to the weekend's conference championship games, a Ring of Honor suite -- a l5-ticket package with catered food and drinks -- sold to a buyer in Texas for $73,163..."We saw more inventory at this time last year than right now," said a spokesman for StubHub, referring to the game between the Saints and the Colts in South Florida...

Getting tickets to the game is only part of the challenge, Finding hotel rooms in North Texas isn't easy, either. Sports Travel is offering a package for $4,195 per person for an Embassy Suite room 26 miles from the stadium, a rental car, a pregame party and seats in the upper bowl above the end zone...

An estimated total of 105,000 will attend the Super Bowl. About 95,000 fans will be in the seats and suites of the $1.3 billion Cowboys Stadium (seats along with 5,000 media members and staff.  About 5,000 people paid $200 apiece to be in an area outside the stadium watching big-screen TVs. The record of 103,985 was set in the 1980 Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Cal. The record crowd could exceed the population of Green Bay, which is about 104,000.

catRarely, have I seen few issues that have generated as much raw heat, tension, and passion than the Confederate monuments controversy.

Just as existed during the real civil war, where brothers battled brothers, social media is the battleground, particularly Facebook, pitting friend against friend.

On one side of the tense divide, there are those who are protecting the New Orleans civil war era monuments.  Burnt in effigy, forever, is the symbol of Mayor Mitch Landrieu for up-ending what the monument protectors consider to be the loving civil society of New Orleans.

Lately, events have turned somewhat militaristic.

Some protectors of the Confederate monuments have been staying vigilant, in person and online, even surveilling during the wee hours of the morning, waiting for the next Mayor Landrieu attack. On Sunday morning, with protections of snipers, masked workers and a dumbstruck audience, the worst of all of the monuments was cut and carried., the Liberty Monument.
